Updated Target Price Matching Policy

Well, it’s another week, which means another version of Target’s Price Matching Policy has been released.  As you’ll remember, Target released a new version last week, which clarified that they will accept 1 Target store coupon and 1 manufacturer coupon on an item when price matching.  They have updated it now to say that they will Price Match in this order:

  1. Target Store Coupon
  2. Price Match
  3. Manufacturer Coupon

Combining both a Target and Manufacturer Coupons:
The Target coupon will be applied before the price match is made. If the competitor price is still lower than the price after the Target coupon has been deducted, the ad match can be adjusted to match the competitor’s price. Once the price match is made the manufacturer coupon will be applied.

Basically, if the Target store coupon makes the price of the item lower than the competitor price, then they will not mark the item down additionally.  I just have to add, that I am sad to see Target take their Price Matching Policy in this direction.  I am thankful they have such a clear policy- but the incentive to price match at Target was so that I could also use their store coupons. Bummer!

What do you think of the new policy?

Thanks Alaska Coupon Diva for the heads up!

I had never price matched at Target before last week. It went fine. I had a CVS ad and manufacturer Q’s only.

I like the new policy personally. I am all for getting a deal, but those toys last week that people were getting for .49 cents was just a little too crazy for me. In order to stay in business, they need to make a profit. They are not making a profit selling a toy for .49 cents and I do not want to see Target go anywhere. I love Target, but I understand their need to go the direction they did.

I completely agree with their policy. It just makes sense. The purpose of the Target coupon is so that they can compete with other department stores, such as Walmart, that doesn’t have store coupons but typically have lower prices. Who pays for the target coupon? Target does. Who pays for the discount on a price match? I don’t know for sure, but I’m betting Target does. Let’s do our part to keep Target in business!

i don’t know how many people actually got that toy for .49 but that was already against there prior policy. THE LAST people i worry about making money in this economy are Stores like target and walmart. they are still making billions, and as someone who has worked with profit margins and sales let me tell you there cost is pennies to your dollars so do not worry about them !

Bummer. I have some great coupons I was going to match with the CVS sail add on TP. I will still do price matching I just don’t know if it will as much fun!!

I just think it’s a little ridiculous…are they just going to change their coupon policy every week, so they can make sure things work out better for them?

  • Jenny

    :P No fun!

  • Ashlei

I think it is lame! Price matching has been hard enough at their store now I have no reason to go through all the trouble!

  • Valerie

What would be the point of price matching at Target if you can no longer use a Target coupon???

And to change their policy ever other day only means confused, inconsistent employees which equals frustrated, annoyed shoppers!

I am disappointed and I wrote to Target to let them know how I felt. Why go to the trouble if it’s going to be the same price, why not just give the business to the store who was already offering the good price. Not that I expect to buy toys for 49 cents, but I’m only going to go to the effort to remember the ad and go to customer service to make sure the transaction goes correctly if the price will be better in some way.

I would suggest others who are similarly disappointed make the effort to contact Target.

I have contacted Target many times. Target used to be my favorite place to shop, now I shop Walmart. Who needs to be treated like a criminal because of using coupons. Target needs to look at the deals as loss leaders, I buy more items when I am in getting a deal, than when I don’t go at all. Target is rude, and their corporate guest services is rude, they don’t care about coupon savers…they are above couponers!

I think that after having to sell their merchandise at 49 cents, no wonder they changed again. This was all over the country taking a loss like that.
Target is trying to stay a leader, they have sales, and target coupons, and allow you to use manufacturer coupons on top of it. Walmart doesn’t have special coupons to use, so Target is trying to help the customer.
But then there are those who are ready to pounce and finagle to grab all they can from the store. (A lot of times giving couponers a not so nice name.)
Grabbing all they can from the store shelves -(why Target now has a 2 limit on their coupons to be printed), Finagle the prices so that who cares about the store’s cost loss -(which is why this change again.)
Personally, I don’t really like Target, but I can certainly see how Some People have caused what they have been doing with their policies.

I think the same thing about it as a I already did about Target. It STINKS, Target STINKS…first of all Target already charges more for a lot of items than what other retailers do, if not for that fact, then one wouldn’t need a Target coupon to offset their high mark up. For me personally this is just more of their usual MO, they are constantly finding excuses to not accept their own coupons or follow their own policies. I now see why they finally put their coupon and price matching policies online, it was so that they could change them every week to suit their own needs. The Target stores in my area give me a hard time every time I go there, I can never use coupons without having to call corporate and I never leave there in a good mood. I get awesome deals with and without coupons at other stores and finally decided that if Target couldn’t follow its own policy, and treat me well as they should any customer, then quite frankly they don’t deserve my business. I now refuse to shop at Target and wouldn’t shop there if they offered to pay me to do so. In today’s economy the focus should be on good customer service, because that is what sets on retailer apart from another, in my area Target has POOR at best customer service. I realize from reading some other comments that this is not the case for all of you and I’m happy to know that in some places Target follows its own policies, I just wish they did so consistently. As far as Target losing money on a $.49 cent toy, I really don’t feel for them there either, part of the lure of Target only coupons is to get you in the store where you will hopefully spend money on other products.

I’m wondering how easily they’ll be able to reinforce this if the price matching is done at customer service AFTER the coupon has already been redeemed. When a Target coupon has been redeemed, it doesn’t map back to the product on the receipt and if they don’t ask whether I used a coupon, I’m not going to divulge that info.

It seems that Target does not appreciate us “Frugalista’s” I am second guessing whether or not i’ll give them so much of my business. It’s really sad because i really enjoyed shopping there. I will DEFINATELY never price match there again after last night when i was asked (at guest services) “Why don’t you just go to the store that has the item priced less and buy it there!?” Seems to me they’d rather chase us away and give their business away!
