Welcome CNN readers! Coupon Use up 27%!

Posted in  //  Uncategorized  //  Comments (9)

Welcome to those who just found our website from CNN!  CNN writer Samira Simone wrote a great article on the rise of couponing, you’ll want to checkout here.

Did you know that between Oct 2008 and Oct 2009, coupon use jumped a whopping 27%?  When I heard it and was asked if that was surprising, I said, “nope”!  I’m one of that 27% percent who is jumping on the bandwagon and everyday I’m surrounded by all of you in the same boat!  CNN quoted Smart Source who reports the page count of the Sunday inserts has increased as well!  That means more coupons!

If you’re new, WELCOME!  Are you ready to learn how to save $10,000 in a year by using coupons?  Check out our new book Pick Another Checkout Lane, Honey, where we’ll not only teach you how to save Big money, we’ll also teach you how to get the coupons, organize them, learn store policies, the inner workings of the coupon, & how to checkout without totally losing your cool!  You’ll be left feeling so confident, we like to say that you will be ready to “Make The Grocery Aisle Your Catwalk!”

Don’t be a skeptic!  We really do stockpile food purchased for at least 75% off retail!  Learning to coupon takes time, but you can choose how much time you put in!  Even if you don’t have time to clip coupons (and I think we can convince you eventually that you do), there are other, faster ways to get coupons!

  • Krazy Coupon Ladies refuse to pay retail for groceries (or almost anything for that matter). We find things on sale, and then use a coupon. And we buy multiples! If see that Cream of Chicken Soup is only $0.25 after a sale and a coupon, we aren’t happy with just 1 can, we buy 10! By Stockpiling while something is at a ROCK BOTTOM price, you won’t have to pay full price when you have to have it. This will eliminate running to the store when you are out of something, and will cut out those impulse buys
  • Choose 1 store to start with, learn their coupon policy, and start shopping!

OK, I am a newbie and just finished my first shopping experience and I’m a little disappointed and would love some advice. I don’t feel like I saved much. I realize since I just started I do not have a huge collection of coupons, therefore I am limited to what deals are good and my printer broke while I was trying to print the online coupons so I didn’t get to many of those either. I went to the commissary and spent 110.00 and saved 40. What’s that, 35%. I was hoping for a lot more. Is it just going to take me some time to get the hang of it? Should I only, only use coupons when things are on sale or can stack them or double them? I din’t do any of these things, but remember I shopped at the commissary, don’t stack or double, and of course the things that were on sale I didn’t have coupons for, but there prices are much lower. For example: I realized Chex at the Comm. with one coupon was the same price as Walgreens on sale, with the coupon. I also feel like it took me forever. Should I make a list and just get the deals that others have posted? I could see in the future a list of what I need to stock up on would be good, but right now I need to stock up on everything. I am totally feeling disappointed right now, especially since most of my 40 bucks I save went to the babysitter…don’t ask, another story. Oh my goodness, please send advice this way!

    ok,
I hate to ask this but do you think copies of your book will be available at our local Ada County libraries? I asked them to purchase copies but never heard back. I really want to read it!

Amanda – Don’t give up or feel disappointed. There definitely is a learning curve, and even “seasoned” couponers will sometimes feel like they bought the wrong thing or paid too much (or bought too much!) Just remember that you DID save, which is money that can you didn’t spend. You probably will only get stuff at 75% off if you combine coupons with a great sale and having doubles or register rewards also helps. In the meantime my suggestions are:
1 – keep reading the sites and you will start to learn what to look for
2 – only buy stuff that you will use – a good deal on something that you won’t use is not a good deal (unless it is totally free and you can donate it)
3 – don’t try and do ALL the deals that are out there, you will only wind up frustrated and exhausted. Focus on one or two stores or items that you particularly use.
4 – remember that saving a dollar by driving across town is probably not worth it because you spent two dollars in gas. Use your time and gas wisely (and babysitting money).
5 – Start building your coupon stockpile too. Often you will not use a coupon as soon as it comes out. It may take a while until it matches up to a good sale. Or it may not ever match up.
6 – Don’t feel bad about letting coupons expire. You truly will probably only use about 20% of the coupons that you collect.

I hope this helps a little. Don’t worry. It sounds like you did fine and you soon will be a pro!
