  1. Maggie says:

This looks great, but I am nervous some of this wont work at my Safeway–for instance the $1.50 Quaker Oatmeal with a $1/1 coupon. Whenever I try something like that at Safeway they tell me the coupon can’t be more than 1/2 of the price. That would be the same on the Lever 200 deal. Am I right?

    • Tasha says:

I’ve never heard of anything like that! Have you requested to speak to a manager to see their specific coupon policy? If this information is solely coming from the cashier, chances are it is incorrect :-)

      • Natalie says:

I read their coupon policy online and it does state that a coupon cannot exceed 1/2 the price of the item, although my store has never inforced this…thank goodness!

      • JJ says:

Sorry, but that is the policy of the store. A Manufacture coupon cannot exceed 50% of the retail value of the product. It is RARELY enforced and is a relatively new policy. (I was a store manager for about 15 years). The trick is picking the right checker…;)
(think young and THINKS they know everything-men)

    • Jae says:

I actually loaded $4off for sudafed, and the item was $7.19, it only credited me for $2 off.. and also my $2.50 off aveeno products, it only took $2 off.. I realized it after getting home and staring at the receipt to figure out why I paid so much.
I can’t argue about the sudafed, cuz the coupon did exceed 50% of item’s price, but I don’t now what happened to aveeno. hmmphh. still trying to figure out this coupon thing.

  2. Ashley says:

For the oatmeal you should be fine because they should be basing that policy on the original price. Besides that, on the screen after your club card it will show up as 2.50. At the bottom of your receipt you’ll have a $4 deduction for buying any of the 4 items. So, you should be good. The Soap one? Yes, YMMV. I know my store won’t allow it!

    • Ashley says:

Oh, btw, that policy is for IP’s only and is on the Safeway website somewhere. Dumb policy if you ask me. That’s why there are security features on IP’s!!!

  3. Joanie says:

Maggie, You are actually right. Safeway’s policy states that printable coupons can’t exceed 50% of the item’s value. In my experience, less than 10% of Safeway stores enforce this rule. I’ve spoken with store managers and one corporate level person and I know that the only reason they have this rule is to reduce fraudulent coupons.

This is the worst way to fight fraud, especially when it’s a largely unenforced rule! How bout you train your managers and cashiers what a fraudulent coupon looks like instead of trying to ban all high value coupons?

The only argument that has ever worked if you’re shopping at a store who is enforcing the 50% rule is this: tell them that your coupon doesn’t exceed the value (regular price) of the item. It only exceeds the sale price. When Safeway store coupons require you to spend a minimum of $10, you only have to get to $10 by totaling the regular item prices, not the current prices. Suggesting that a $1.00 off Quaker coupon should be accepted for the instant oats that are in excess of $3.00 reg price might work for you.

Bottom line: if they disagree, they win. The policy is on their side. Phew! That was a lecture! Thanks for the question!

  5. Kelly says:

I hope someone can answer this for me…I got on Safeway’s site to search for a store close to me and turned up a couple of Von’s locations, will these Safeway deals be the same or similar to Von’s?

  6. Teya says:

Or you could use the coupon and then slide your card. That way when you used the coupon it’ll be the pre-Safeway price.

  7. Tiffany says:

I went into my safeway in Oregon and they did not have the oatmeal or the fruit by the foot/snacks on sale.

  8. Amalia says:

My question is about the Weight Watchers Smart Ones. My ad says you have to buy 5 to get the sale price. If that’s so, could we then also use the 1/10 SS Q for a FREE breakfast (free wyb 5) AND also STACK the 1/10 SS Q for a FREE flatbread (free wyb 3)? So basically I’d buy 5 Smart Ones and use the $1/5 Q AND a FREE breakfast Q AND a FREE flatbread Q? Could make for a sweet deal!

  9. Sally says:

Had no problems at my Safeway here in Colorado Springs today. Actually had a bonus score! Used the store coupon for Sargentos cheese, and on the packages were $1/1 Bertolli sauce. I always try to make sure I know the other store specials before I go in for the “kill”, so I remembered that Albertson’s here in CO have the bertolli sause 2/$4! The coupon from the cheese is a manufacturer one….so will be stopping at Albertson’s later today! Saved 71% at Safeway today…and earned a 10 cent gas reward :)

  10. Diana says:

I was able to buy 2 of the Lever 2000 packages and the computer took 1 of the $1.00 off coupons. Be sure to check for the Chinet for sticky coupons for free Chinet cups!

  11. Tiffany says:

I was able to use 4 $1 off levers on the 2 packs at the same time. I made -.48

  12. Mary says:

So most of the coupons that we print out said they cannot be copied, transferred, etc… Since I’m new to this can you use the same coupon more than once? For example: Instant Oatmeal 4 for 1.50 each and I used only 1 coupon and got an $1 off so I ended up paying 1.25 for 4 boxes. Can someone help explain this? Thanks!

  13. Lina says:

The Chinet plates at my store had peelies for a FREE 36 count of lunch plates (worth 3.00)! So I got twice as many plates as I planned on! Love it.

  14. Audrie says:

So, on the fruit snack coupon it says, “No other coupon may be used with this coupon.” How were you able to use 2 of them in the same transaction as suggested on the scenario?

  15. Melinda says:

The shortcuts.com coupon for the Rosarita refried beans is not good for Safeway. It’s for Ralphs, Krogers, etc. I was sad, because for a moment I got excited, LOL. Thanks for all the other coupon match-ups though, this is GREAT!!! :)

  16. Michelle says:

Mary, you are right about not being able to copy, scan etc coupons but that doesn’t mean you can not print them more than once. MOST of the time, you are able to hit the back button on your internet brouser, hit refresh and the coupons will print again. They will have a different bar code on them so they are not a copy of the ones you printed before.

You can use as many coupons as you have product for. In the example you used with the oatmeal, you would have been able to use four one dollar coupons as long as the coupon stated you only had to buy one box of oatmeal to use the coupon.

I only have one computer so I was only able to print two of the one dollar off oatmeal coupons but I was able to find some one dollar off of two boxes of oatmeal coupons at the library in their coupon exchange program. We also have a coupon exchange program at church and at my work. I also have a friend that prints coupons for me off of her computer. These are just ideas on how to get more coupons to make your shopping even better.

    I hope this helped!
