Extreme Couponing Tip: Sunday Advance and RedPlum Inserts

Extreme Couponing Tip: How do some KCLs….?

Get the RedPlum inserts mailed to them?
Some areas have RedPlum mailed out to them during the week prior to them appearing in the Sunday newspapers. Newspapers in those areas, however, tend not to carry RedPlum since it is mailed out. To find out if your location has it mailed or in a newspaper, check out RedPlum.com.

Get the Sunday newspaper on Saturday?
Select newspapers offer Sunday Advance editions (that come on Saturday) which have many of the same features as the Sunday papers, including the ads and coupon inserts. A few areas even offer these Advance editions at the lower Saturday rate, so make sure to inquire with your local newspapers.

    Hi all:
In checking the subscription page for our local paper to see if it would be cheaper to buy an additional paper or two two miles down from where I live or to have one or two extras delivered to my home on Sunday. To my dismay, I found that it was $2. for a Sunday subscription compared to a $1.50 at the store. Wierd. I do carry full subscription though to my local paper.

Has anybody else been hearing about the new crackdown on extreme couponing? My local news did a story on it (as well as Yahoo) that says stores like Walgreens, Target, and even some manufacturing companies are revising their coupon policies because of TLC’s show. Now I’m kind of up in the air. I’ve just begun researching into this because of the show. I’m in Iowa so we’re already limited on the types of stores and the deals we get and now I wonder if I should bother going any further if even the manufacturers are pulling back on their coupons. :(

New to this site not sure where to post but…I am new to couponing I love how much money to can save. So for my first trip I went to Walgreens and I had my ducks in order…how my first transaction was going to go and how I was going to use my register rewards and how much money I was going to save. (p.s. I was also very nervous because when I walked in with my coupon book I got lost of looks from the cashiers and workers in the store) So I was ready to check out and the posted a note on the register that “Only one transaction per person”. I didnt know what to do…so I just left the store….Need some feedback…what should have I done?

    • Lynette says:

Skyward how said you must have really felt bad, sounds like that store has had problems, not sure how they can keep people from coming back in and shopping more, does not sound right. I myself have a Walgreens in the next town over which sorry to say is a little nasty. Had to ask what I thought was a bunch of questions and found out from a floor person that we are getting one in my town in Oct. yah! Anyway I was nervous too when I started and I have dropped my coupons and all that, but times are tough. Just go back at a time when you are comfortable and you think they are not that busy (if you can) maybe you just got there at a bad time of the day for them. Make you list small first time and go back the next day to spend your RR. Oh and you do know that a “transaction” is one checkout and a item is just that one item in a checkout. Please try again!

    • skyward says:

Thanks Lynette…Boy I was thinking that maybe this whole thing is not for me. But I need to save money…your are right times are tough but that day was terrible the way the store employees looked at me when they saw I had a binder full of coupons…….But I did need to buy grocery as well so I just pulled what coupons I had for items on my list and just use them as normal (not like for the stock pile) I was just beside myself and I thought well a little money saved is better than none..I think I had $5.00 in mfg. coupons and in store savings was $16.00 so saved a little….I think It wont be long until the stores will not allow the stock piles that people get….well thanks for the reply..Oh by the I live in Kansas

I know this doesnt go here but ive been trying for hours to post on your What does “One Coupon Per Purchase” mean? and it says its closed. I was very confused about this before i read this post which help but then i was told by another coupon lady that has this one site through facebook that You are not supposed to use 2 $1/2 coupons on the same two items. It is not ethical. The coupon is attached to both items so in order for you to use 2 $1/2 coupons you must get 4. Thanks!

This was after i had posted a question and also i posted this:the coupon says limit one coupon per purchase of product and quantity stated. no more than 4 coupons for the same product in same transaction. i do know that when i get the 2 bottles i can use 2 of my save 1 dollar coupon that i have. one coupon for each bottle. because it says one coipon per purchase and im purchasing 2.!! i didnt know that till i did some research on another coupon site!!

So now i am so confused because i looked at your example with the cans of

Buy 5 Betty Crocker Frosting $1.00 each
    Use 5 $0.50/1 manufacturer coupons
Final Price: $0.50 each, when you buy 5

Maybe im wrong but as i read here you say that i can use one coupon for each item purchased the coupon i have is 1$ of any 2 bottles of palmolive dish detergent. the coupon says limit one coupon per purchase of product and quantity stated. no more than 4 coupons for the same product in same transaction. iso it means i can use both coupons on the 2 bottles i get because it says 1coupon per purchase and im purchasing 2 bottles? Am i right ?
    Thanks for your help!!

I live in the phoenix valley and my apartment complex gets RP delivered on like tuesdays and its easy to get free extras because the mail trash cans are filled with them AND we get RP in our sunday paper. Only difference in the really good coupons arent in the mailed ones. Like the dove coupons this last week weren’t in the mailed one but the pringles was. Its a free way to get extra inserts though :)

    • Lynette says:

We get the SS on Tues. so I just stop by the PO Box to check my mail and can you say 8 sets of so……

I have found that the large city metro papers will have ALOT more coupons than the local city paper. The Oregonial appears to have most if not all of the coupons that are listed on sunday coupon preview — the local city paper has about 1/3! IMHO it was well worth the extra $1 to buy the Oregonian — plus I can pick it up at the local Fred Meyer on Saturday!

  13. Darlinsusie says:

I’m beginning to wonder if I should just stop couponing, my sunday actual received is 1/4 of what is listed on the preview page. this is depressing. Then once I see what I am not getting and I try to contact 3 different papers about Sunday only delivery, they all act like I am nuts about wanting to order 4 copies and wont give me a discount AND want to charge me extra to deliver the same distance as a store that they only deliver 2 copies of their paper too. and when I ask them to send more copies to the local stores, they tell me that the managers have to order them. the managers tell me thats a district decision and UGHHH I am ready to pull my flipping hair out!

  14. Heidi says:

I live in West Michigan and I think we get lucky here with the Grand Rapids press because they always have all the coupon inserts PLUS we get a freebie of either SS or RP in our junk mail! Seems like they are random as to who gets which but I don;t mind asking the neighbors for theirs :)

I am located south west of you in Michigan. I have learned that not all SS or RP inserts are the same for all newspapers. The Detroit Free Press SS and RP inserts are thicker than the Battle Creek Enquirer. Also, we don’t get any of the inserts in our junk mail in the country. Wish we did.

I live in northern cali, and i used to get redplum and smartsource mailed to me prior to the week before it comes out in the papers… but for some reason, it doesnt get mailed to me anymore, so i have to resort to the papers. the P&G, however, still comes, which I am thankful for.

I have also noticed that the redplum that comes during the week (my sister gets it in her mail still) is slightly different than the one released in the sunday paper.

I subscribe to 2 copy’s $.50 each of my Sunday paper and it has both RP and SS and once a month PG…and on Wednesday I get a free local paper with one SS(but not as many coupons as the Sunday paper) But now I’m thinking about subscribing to 2 more copy’s.

  20. Josette says:

I get coupons on tuesday in the mail. So if the SS comes on tuesday I dont get it on sunday. The same go’s for Red Plum.

  21. Laniece says:

I get “redplums” in the mail but they aren’t like the coupons for products in the store, they are the local coupons for pizza, KFC, oil changes, etc. BUT I do get a free newspaper delievered to my home because I have cable. The only difference is that the redplum that is delivered to my home has fewer coupons in them than the ones in the stores.

    • Michelle says:

I have the same redplums. I get it in the mail on Tues/ Wed. It has hardly any practical coupons. I live in Oklahoma. I wish there was a way of getting more coupons and not waste printer ink.

  23. Mrsnance02 says:

I did not get the Smart Source this sunday, only the Red Plum; usually I get both.

    • Anonymous says:

There was a SS insert this past Sunday available and if your area usually carries it, I would call the newspaper and see if they either stopped carrying SS or they could get you a replacement for the missing one in yours.

  24. Mariposita says:

We not only get them mailed to us, but they come in the Sunday papers. I didn’t realize that until I started couponing, but I get Sunday’s RP insert in my mailbox on the Tuesday or Wednesday before. Usually my area is backwards in receiving things, but for once, we’re ahead of the game.

I’m not sure how accurate this site is: it says that Red Plum is not available in my area or my mom’s, but we both get the Red Plum mailed to us each week.

I just looked the ebay thing up and it actually is cheaper…for 5 whole inserts .99 cent…im almost thinking its worth a try

      • Jules says:

I usually get my inserts from ebay. I personally think its cheaper….I just paid 3.00 free shipping on five of the red plum and its takes about 2 days to receive. The paper in my area is 1.75.

        • Lynette says:

Has anyone been reading the news lately? Because of TLC’s need for sensationalism both RED PLU and SMARTSOURCE are suing E-Bay and Craigs List and anyone else that pops up selling packs! Yeh go TV. I never got to see a excerp from the show since they yanked it here after three weeks.

    • cristywisty says:

I think it depends on how old the inserts are… when I have compared in the past, if I wanted to get the most recent week, they were going for $5-$8+ but if you wait a couple weeks then will be down to $3 or so. Also have to pay attention to the regional changes — some inserts will be less — but wont have all the high value coupons as another region.

I have found it to be better to by the Oregonian. I will get only 1 paper just to see what our region received…. If I like it — then I will pick up a few more — if it doesnt look worth it, then I just pick up individual coupons for items I want from ebay for $1 or so for 10 coupons.

For buying coupons via eBay follow these guidelines: check out the product description carefully (it should say “genuine original manufacturer coupons”) and read the seller’s feedback. If that is in order, double check the expiration date and shipping time to make sure the coupons get to you in time to use them.

HAHA…I just called my local paper and asked if I could get a discount on 4 papers every Sunday and they said nope…and a year subscription is 144.00 versus 8.00 a week for the four in the store…I wish I could just get them in the mail

Yeah, my local paper doesn’t have RP. Plus, the Dallas Morning News is $3 and the Austin American Statesman is $2 on Sunday. I looked on both websites to see if they could deliver and the Dallas one wouldn’t (or couldn’t?) and the Austin one was $1 more for delivery. But 4 weeks at a time. I think I can manage to drive to 7-11 on Sunday’s…

      • Blackmax says:

Heather, have you tried Star-Telegram? I live in Fort Worth & the papers are $2 also, I refuse to purchase Dallas Monrning News..May want to see if they will deliver to you.

Also, Walmart does carry doubles (Saturday & Sunday editions) which carries inserts in both. However, they aren’t delivered to the store until early morning. Just an FYI…

Also, someone stated DollarTree, I get my papers from there for $1ea, when I don’t need coupons on Sunday mornings…I love stocking up on coupons at DollarTree

Unfortunitely Las Vegas, NV doesnt get Red Plum at all! :(

  32. Janell says:

I live in Tucson, Az and i do not recieve the redplum in either Sunday paper or weekly ads that come in the mail, I was wondering how do go about getting the redplum w/o having to pay for one from the internet?

Get a subscription to The Arizona Republic, they usually have both the Red Plum and Smart Source.

  33. renee says:

I live in jersey and the central/north doesnt get it but the southern half does in the same paper its crazy. I always see RP near such good deals but i would have to drive an hr to get them… :-/

  34. Sean R. says:

I may have to contact my local paper and see if they do the Sunday advance.

  35. Nadine says:

I get the Red Plum in the mail and also in our newspaper, the Houston Chronicle. I subscribe to the paper so maybe that is why. I don’t know.

  36. Liz2203761 says:

Thankfully, our sunday Newsday includes both SS and RP inserts. And, if you get the newspaper delivered, its only $1.25 per paper, compared to $2.50 at the news stand. I only get the sunday paper delivered, and I subscribed for 4. Its nice on sunday mornings to find all my papers/inserts right on my porch waiting for me. Another nice thing about delivery is, if theres ever inserts missing, Newsday will replace them or refund you for that paper. If you buy it at the store and are missing inserts, theres nothing they can do to help. Its a little extra insurance.

  37. Vinnanessa says:

In SoCali and we get our redplum in the mail FYI! Thanks KCL!

  38. Christie says:

bwahaha, I was convinced people kept stealing my RPs but they’re not in the paper I was buying. At least I know I’m not losing my mind.

  39. Kayla8587 says:

Mine comes in the newspaper, but I compared with a friend in a different region and our paper not only costs more, she gets a lot more coupons in her inserts then I do. Is there anyway to get a different regions inserts ?

in my area they are mailed out during the week. I live in town and get my mail at the post office. on the days that the RP come out I dig through the garbage at the post office and get lots of copies. one week I ended up with about 40!!!

I have found this to be true in Napa, CA! I have pulled them off the top but will start digging now!!!!!!!!!!!

If you ever need help with inserts I run a gathering service. Sf clippers on fb or at gmail for email. Lol a national website and I see a local!!!!
