Welcome to this post where we will lay out some extreme couponing deals that will cost you about $5.00 out of pocket each week! First, here’s everything you need to know about shopping at Walgreens:

Walgreens allows one  manufacturer coupon and one store coupon per product. You may use Walgreen’s Register Rewards in addition to these coupons.  The Register Rewards print like a Catalina on a little machine near the cash register.  The most important thing to remember when coupon shopping at Walgreens is that you have to have as many items to purchase as you have coupons, including any Register Rewards you want to use.  We often use “filler” (cheap extra items) so that we have enough items to purchase.

Before shopping at Walgreens, you might want to review the Walgreen’s How To Video.   Walgreens is certainly the hardest drugstore to shop, but it has the best deals!  What I like most is that you can repeat the deals and get more product.  The limits are just one per transaction, so you can get more than one item–just don’t clear the shelves!!  Here’s a link to the coupon policy

Today I found bottles of Tresemme (15oz) on clearance for $1.24! If you still have your $1 off from (I think) the 7/31 inserts, then you can get 15oz bottle for 24 CENTS!! I picked up 4!

  2. Last week, I contacted Wags corporate twice: 1) lack of sale merchandise (Keri Lotion) and poor management ( one of the managers gave me a hard time for using coupons and one of the coupons are theirs!!!) I decided to stop shopping at this Wags near my house and decided to go to the one near my job. What a huge difference! I had a drama free checkout. I did two separate transactions using two $1.00 Crest manufacturer coupons and three $3 RR, I was able to get two Crest toothpaste, Folgers Coffee, Dial Body wash and three bottles of seasonings for $5.45!!!

Walgreens and all these different questions are making my head spin! Why can’t they be more like CVS & Rite-Aid:)

  4. Amber says:

I was told by a Wags cashier that the coupon policy recently changed. What she told me was that they now treat Wags coupons as manufacturers coupons. Is this true?

  5. Katie Hoover says:

Do the in ad coupons count towards your total number of coupons used? I haven’t had the Walgreens in-ad coupons count before therefore I am able to use my register rewards as well, but today at 2 different stores it counted the manufacturers coupons and in the in ad coupons.

    • Anonymous says:

Katie-The in ad coupons do NOT count as part of your coupon/item ratio. And neither do the Walgreens coupons they have in their booklets. Only the manufacturers coupons & register rewards will count in your coupon total. I hate the inconsistency in Walgreens! But they were wrong!

KCL Can I use the MF Q from RP 7/31 that’s for Dove Deodorant?
    Sale is Dove or Degree Antiperspirant/Deodorant 2.6 – 3.0 oz $2.00 Buy 2 get $1 RR.
I have a Q for: B1 Dove Womens Deodorant (ultimate or clinical) & get Free Dove Men+Care Antiperspirant or Deodorant.

    Will this work?

Frustrating Walgreens trip today. Got up to the register and the manager (who knows me quite well at this point) immediately said “Yeah, our Catalina machine’s down.” Eek. But then he said “So I’ll just deduct the savings automatically from the items.” Fortunately I didn’t have any coupons yet (come on postman!) for the one moneymaker item I was interested in, so I thought “Well, that’ll work!”

But then he didn’t want to sell me the Crest 3D toothpaste because he had marked it down to a dollar ($2.50 x 2 = $5/2 – $3 RR = $2/2 = $1 each) and I had $1/1 coupons for it. “Can’t give it to you for free!” he said.

I was like “That’s ludicrous! If the Catalina machine was working I would pay $3 and receive $3 back thus getting it for free!”

“Can’t give it to you for free!”

“What if you had it for sale for a dollar and I had a dollar off coupon?!”

“Can’t give it to you for free!”

That manager bugs the heck outta me sometimes. Clearly he was wrong but whatever. He seemed stress so I let it go and just didn’t get the free toothpaste.

On top of this they just instituted a new computer system at this location for the registers. This was my first experience with it and I did not care for it at all. It kept screwing up the in-ad discounts. It took me half an hour to check out when it should have taken me five minutes. Sigh. Really hope I don’t see it starting to pop up at my other Walgreens locations!

I still want my dang toothpaste. >:-(

    • Anonymous says:

Wow, he was really stuck on that “can’t give it to you for free” thing even though people do that for us couponers all the time! It’s amazing how Walgreen stores vary.

      • Angela says:

The funny thing is it’s just this manager, who’s sweet but gets confused easily. The other manager dude (not sure whether one outranks the other) totally would have allowed me to do it. Oh well. There’s another Walgreens I can try tomorrow.

  9. Nancy says:

My register reward for the the Colegate 360 toothbrush did not print. The manager told me I had to by BOTH the toothbrush and the toothpaste. So, I got a refund.

    • Katy16_us says:

You definitely don’t need to buy both items in order to get the RR. I purchased one colgate sensitive pro-relief toothpaste and i received my $4RR. I did this same scenario a total of 2x and it worked fine for me.

  10. Twraines says:

ok I am new to this i spent four hours getting ready then went to wallgreens and was ready to do the rewards and the manger said I could only do one transaction, and your RR is to be used on the next visit. I drove to 5 wallgreens today spend 3 hours was a mess ended up spending more on gas and got confused and didnt do good. I asked the manager if anyone at other stores are allowed to do more then one transaction he said up to manger and he frowned on it. I tried to read coupon policy someone help. I lost job need to sav e money but this was a mess today i am about to throw all coupons out the window. lol if anyone has any good coupon sites this one if my favoirte or anything to help me I would love it.

    • i think all the RRs have only for 1 transaction so i would do a separate transaction if i’ll buy two of those items..you can still use the RR on other transaction if you don’t buy the same item with let’s say for your first transaction you bought the keri lotion with $5 RR for your second transaction you bought the dial boday wash for $3.99 – $3 RR you’ll pay $3.99 +tax you’ll have less than $5 you have to get a filler (cheap/sale items) like candies to make it $5 because they don’t give a change & still get the $3RR for the body wash..hope this helps you

    • luv2save says:

I agree this couponing thing can be frustrating but the reality is that you can save so much money and that is hard to give up. I follow something that KCL wrote a couple of weeks ago about couponing with someone else. I recently graduated college and with having to pay back student loans saving money is at the top of my list, luckily my sister is on the same boat so I got her involved in this coupoining thing. Our stock pile has grown so quickly because were doing it together. I also got my two cousing to start coupoining for their own home and its nice because between the four of us we all look for deals and then tell each other about it. It still takes time to stay organized but by having other’s involved it helps me stay motivated. I’ve only been couponing for a little under 2 months now. I mostly use this website to gather the information that I need because I tried searching multiple sites but i found that it was to time consuming and at times overwhelming. Stay motivated, the more you do this the easier it will get. Its also nice to read the blogs here because you get valuable info from people who have attempted the deals and have succeeded or failed. You learn a lot from those failed experiences because it teaches you what not to do and what you need to tweak so that your transaction run smoothly. Good luck!!!

  11. RR shopper says:

Quicjk question — if Walgreens has a coupon in their ad, and the ad says “limit 4,” do I actually need four of the ad coupons, or would the one suffice? These are not the manufacturer coupons but the ones that only appear in the ads.

  12. Melissa Steel says:

I’m wondering if anyone is having the same problems that I am with Walgreens…They never ever have what is on sale….I live close to two stores and run into this problem EVERY single week with BOTH stores. Last wk-no Dove anything-week before that no Keri-week before that no eye solution-week before that-no Bounty. There were many many more items they were out of…far too many to list. They always respond with “come back Thursday when our truck comes in.” but I opt for a rain check-frustrating either way. After today I’m rally just abut done with Walgreens. I was at the store about 11:30 and wih the ad just starting today they had no Wisk, no Keebler cookies, no Rice Crispes Treats, no Glade products, etc., I did talk to store managers at both locations but they were of no help…same as always” come back…” I can’t believe this practice of luring you into the store on the pretense of a sale is legal.

    • here’s what I observed with walgreens stores that I’m going to…I think they don’t stock up for the sale for the coming week meaning even if it’s not sale let’s say for this week and they only have 1 or 3 items in the shelf & it’ll be on sale for next week then when someone takes it that’s it for the whole week of sale sometimes they stock up sometimes they don’t & also watch out for unadvertised deals coz that way you’ll be able to get it before they advertise it..i learned it by goin there almost everyday.

Walgreen’s has a buy 1 listerine,at one liter and get 50% off the second bottle. I enough coupons to purchase 14 bottles which would make my total $50 is that a good deal?? I figure that my husband and I go through a one liter bottle of listerine every 2 months. Please let me know if this is a deal I should go after or pass by???

Only one register reward printed. Did twice in two different transactions. Worked like a charm.

Triple-play question. Walgreens has a .99 deal on Floss, Listerine mouthwash and Reach toothbrushes. I have a Buy (All) 3 Save $3 coupon but the mouthwash size is different (larger). I do have a $1 off that larger Listerine, but can I combine coupons for the individual items with the $3 coupon as well?

Just came back from WAG’s, i dont think i did too bad, but the only thing that disappoints me is that they would only let me get what is in the picture on the cookie deal to get my RR’s….

  20. Jo says:

I just got back from Wags and have to say I’m disappointed/confused. I bought the proglide razor, the airwick, and the dial bodywash.Ii used a $4 q for the razor and a $4q for the airwick. I also used a prev RR from Kellogs I got the RR for the razor and bodywash. The cashier didn’t understand why I didn’t get the RR for the Airwick. The manager said it was because I used a man. q on the airwick. That doesn’t make sense because I did the same thing for a razor. Did the coupon policy and RR change recently that I’m not aware of?

    • Anonymous says:

No, you should have received a RR for the Airwick. Sometimes their catalina machines are flaky and don’t print out for me too. It’s almost like the one at mine gets jammed if I do to many deals. Sometimes, I return it and redo it and it will print. You can definitely use a man. q on a product and get the RR.
Their own ads suggest you do it all the time! Point that out to the manager in the ads!

      • Hgburmaster says:

The exact same thing happened to me today. I bought the Airwick and didn’t get the RR. Stinks! She gave me this thing to mail in to get the RR. Have you ever heard of this? or should I just return it? The manager told me the same thing you can’t use coupon and RR. I told him that’s not what’s stated in the policy and he said each store can make their own policies too. Not sure if that is true.

I just p a i d $21.87 for an i P a d 2-64GB and my boyfriend loves his Panasonîc Lumîx GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS.I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $657 which only cost me $62.81 to buy.
Here is the website we use to get it all from, http://bit.ly/NcMl

  23. geekily says:

I’m so confused! I feel like no matter how hard I try I can never get the deals to work out. Just got back from Walgreens. For T1, I bought the Colgate toothpaste and a card for my filler item, used $5 RR from last week, got $4 back. For T2, I bought the 3 Scotch tapes and 2 Crest toothpastes. The cashier was very nice, but the register wouldn’t let her use my $4 RR from T1 unless she voided one of the Crest coupons. She called the manager over, who also tried, but said that because the amount of P&G coupons exceeded the cost of P&G products, he would have to price adjust the items up. (He was counting the RR as a P&G coupon, even though it said from Colgate, which is not P&G as far as I know. This brought my total out to over $1 with tax. What am I doing wrong?

    • geekily says:

So it looks like the manager upped the price of one of the toothpastes by $0.50, thus negating my $0.50 coupon. (I had $0.50 off and one $0.75 off.) Does Walgreens corporate do anything if you call and complain? I’m not sure the 50 cents is worth my time, but if anyone can tell me what I did wrong, I’d love to know so I don’t make the same mistake in the future! Thanks!

    • Anonymous says:

Colgate is a Palmolive product as far as I know so it should have worked!

    • lbbaucom says:

Did you use a manufacturer coupon on each of the Scotch tapes and Crest toothpastes? If so, did you include a filler item? You would need a filler item to use the RR, because you have 5 items and 6 manufacturer coupons.

    • lbbaucom says:

      • Geekily says:

No, the Scotch coupon was $1/3 so it was only one coupon. I had 5 items and 4 manufacturer coupons.

        • Sparks_h says:

When a Q states $1/3 the Q is “attached” to all three items. I ran into this same problem a few weeks ago.

          2 crest + 3 scotch tapes= 5 items
          2 $1/1 crestQ + Q attached to 3 scotch tape + $4 RR from T1= 6 manufacturer Qs

I did this same transaction this morning & you’ll need a “filler item”. I used a penway mini notebook ($0.15 with in-ad Q)

          • Geekily says:

Thank you SO much for clearing this up for me! I’m bummed that I lost my coupon, but at least I know for next time! I’ll get the hang of this if it’s the last thing I do!

  24. katie says:

ok so heres my question, sorry if it doesn’t make sence..
If I do the 2/$4 degree deal two times in the same transaction and use 4 $1 coupons, Will I get them for free and will I get the 4 rrs or the 1 rr? Sorry if this is confusing. I’m confused

    • Sab says:

RR deals are 1 per transaction so if the deal is 2/$4 and you get $1 RR you canNOT buy 4 and expect 2 $1 RR. You have to split them up in separate transactions.

      -I’m a manager at Walgreens.

  25. shanny954 says:

If i buy the colgate toothpaste in transaction #1 can i buy the colgate toothbrush in Transaction #2? or would i have to skip a transaction to use and get my RR’s?

I’m wondering this, too! I For transaction 1 I want to buy the Colgate toothpaste and a card for a bridal shower using my Colgate coupon and $5 RR from last week. For trans 2, I want to buy the Crest 3D and Scotch tapes and use my $4 RR, but I’d like to be able to add in the toothbrush to take advantage of the fact that the tape is 3 items and 1 coupon, plus to get it over $4 to use the whole RR. (I’m 7 cents short.) I know the policy says that redeeming RR against the same offer may not earn another, but if there are also different items in the purchase, will it print? Thanks!

Are the Walgreens coupons in the monthly coupon book counted toward the coupon total? I’m new to couponing and after trying different stores all week, I finally found a Walgreens with the Expo markers that would end up being free WYB2 with the $2/2 coupon. The cashier said I either had to use the Walgreens coupon book coupon or the mnfg coupon book and it didn’t work. I was in a hurry and I had a raincheck from another store, anyway, so I just left without the items. Was it because I had too many coupons without a filler though (counting the Wags coupon book twice) + mnfg coupon, or can I really not use both?

Thanks so much for all the tips and help!

    • Anonymous says:

Yes the Walgreens coupons count toward the total but you should be able to use it with a manufacturer coupon. I do it all the time. That being said, Walgreens tend to vary on how they follow policy. Hence, people’s frustration with Walgreens sometimes.

    • Barbara says:

I did the same deal last weekend & got the free markers by using both the manufactures coupon & the Walgreens booklet coupon. Walgreens can be inconsistent with their coupon policy but in last weeks ad they had proof that you can use both by showing that the Cottonelle was $5 minus a $1 Walgreens booklet coupon & then it said less $.50 coupon in most papers to make it $3.50. It’s a good ad to save because it’s right there directly from Walgreens that you can use both towards an item! I am putting it in my coupon binder!

Monthly Register Rewards: $1 Register Rewards when you buy 2
$2 Register Rewards when you buy 3
$4 Register Rewards when you buy 4 (Valid through 9/4)

that’s probably vary with the number you buy… i’m taking a good guess on this.. maybe someone can verify what I post.

I have been doing this couponing and your website since about the beginning of July and am getting better at it! But I have one question when shopping at Walgreens. For example, starting tomorrow Dawn is $0.49 with the in-ad coupon and the manufacturer coupons. So if I take advantage of all 3 (limit 3) and use 3 $0.50 off coupons, so I need 3 in-ad coupons (I think I only need one), but does this count as 6 coupons or as 4 coupons? How many filler items do I need? I also have RR that expire tomorrow, so I have to use all of those. I often run into the problem of having the same number of items vs. coupons, and then can’t use all of my RRs. How do you handle this?
    Thanks!
    Kathy (In Florida)
PS Why doesn’t Florida double coupons? (Sigh…lol)

Also, we don’t have “cheap” filler items by our registers here… :(

      • Qpnjet says:

You can always hit the food aisle and pick up a few boxes of jello to round out the transaction and use those as your filler. :)

      • Ivytat says:

Ask if they have a clearence end cap! Sometimes you can find great cheapies there!

      • Mauri says:

pick up a couple of fillers on way through shopping… lay them on the counter…say, these are what I want to use for fillers if I need to use anything for fillers, but if I dont need anything I dont want them…cheapo candy, jello, just look through…usually laffy taffy is by the counter. Im being very upfront with the clerks and they are so helpful…just learning to shop Walgreens…

      I was wondering that too

    • Battlescoupons says:

Store coupons dont count against your total. Just the manufacturer ones.

    • Ivytat says:

Kathy, Walgreens allows you to use the store coupon in conjunction with the manufacturer’s coupon. So the only fillers you would need is to make your total the right one and so that you can use your RR’s. XD

    • I am in FL too and try to use anything under 50 cents as a filler. I have used Keebler 6pk cracker packs 50 cents, coloring books 45 cents and cookies when they had them marked down to 25 cents. It is tough to find things though. Gosh I wished they doubled here.

    • Michelle says:

To my knowledge, you only would need a filler item to cover the RR’s . For example, you are going to buy 3 Dawn at $0.99 with the in ad coupon. Then you are using the MfQ $0.50/1 making them $0.49 each. Total would be around $1.50 plus tax. Then say you have a $2 RR you want to use to pay for it all. So THEN you would need to buy one small filler item b/c the RR’s count as MfQ’s. * But in this case, your filler item would need to be enough to make the total over $2.*
I hope this can clear it up a little for you. :)

I AM TOTALLY CONFUSED WITH THIS COPOON STUFF i dont under stand what u mean buy filler items please help me

    • Jenny says:

Filler items are generally inexpensive items we add to make sure we have enough items for the coupons. For example, if you were buying 10 items and had 10 coupons but wanted to pay for it with 2 RR, you would need to add two filler items to be able to use those RR.

      • amy says:

so for every item you have to have a coupon, right? i went to walgreens last week and bought the hand soap b1g1 then i bought the ajax with coupon for 89cents bought 2 only had 1 coupon, and bought envolopes for 69cents one coupon bought 2 boxesand my price was almost 20 dollers dont soumd right to me

        • Jenny says:

no, no, no…you don’t have to have a coupon for every iITEM you have, you have to have an item for each coupon. If you had a BOGO coupon it usually just counts as one coupon (just my experience, there are exceptions). So you would have two items and one coupon, you could then use one RR to pay for those two items. You had two items and you used two coupons…the BOGO coupon and the RR. If you wanted to use an additional RR to pay for those items you would need a filler to cover the second RR.

Also, someone correct me if I’m wrong here but the coupons out of their ad can be combined with a manufacturer coupon. Which just makes it even more confusing. I believe KCL has a video on here about Walgreens shopping. I’m sure it would explain things a whole lot better than I can. :)

          • amy says:

thanks so much for your help i really dont shop much at walgreens and i didnt know they had rr ive never gotten them i will have to check next time im hoping to get this all soon i really appriciate your help im still a little confused but i will get it soon i hope lol

In trans #2 you say to use:Buy 3 Reach Crystal Clean Toothbrush $0.99 With in ad coupon, Limit 3
Use 3 $1.00/1 Listerine Total Care Anticavity Mouthwash 1L or larger OR any (1) Reach Toothbrush OR any (1) Reach Floss OR (1) Reach Access Flosser from SS 4/17
    Free
How can you use a listerine Q for a reach toothbrush?

    • KShearman says:

      Kathy,
If you will read through her description and the above one you reused you will see it says OR any (1) Reach Toothbrush :)

    • Terha says:

The coupon she’s referring to is for Listerine OR a reach toothbrush OR reach floss. It’s a strange coupon, but totally correct.

      • Kathy Holt says:

Thank You for clearing that up.As you can tell I am new to couponing & have wondered about that before. The coupons I usually see are more for 1 product type only.

  46. sarah says:

There’s a $4 off Air Wick Freshmatic coupon from 8/14, so you can use that throughout the week, not just tomorrow.

  47. Judy says:

I went to Walgreens today, and tried to purchase –
    trans #1 – 2 reach tootbrushes 2/$5 get $3 rew–I used a $2.50 off 2 and got $3.
Trans #2 Revlon nail 3.99 get $3 trans -used $1 off revlon coupon and $3 rew from trans 1-
The register beeped, the mgr came over—Rewards are manufacturers coupons and cannot be combined with other manufacturers coupons.

Did I get it wrong, I thought that is why we got the rewards. Help?

    Judy

    • trish says:

u need to have the same amount of products as coupons…and rewards have to be over the total but that is whole point of rewards…manager was wrong =]

    • Fyceasar says:

You needed another item that are also called fillers. You must have an item for each coupon.

    • Lorriwj says:

      Judy,
Walgreens is a little tricky. When you use the register rewards and a manufacturer’s coupon, you have to make sure you have the same number of items as you have coupons. The register reward is treated like a regular coupon but can be used on anything. Pick up a cheap little “filler” item(s) to equal out the number of items to the number of coupons. Hope that helps!

    • Michelle says:

If you have a transaction where you have used a coupon on every single item in that transaction THEN you need to buy a cheap “filler” that you aren’t using a coupon on —– that will let you use ONE register reward (aka manufacturer coupon). Buy 2 fillers to use 2 RR and so on…..

    • i had that issue last week and leaned something very helful.. it will work but bc u hav 2 coupons and only 1 item, thats why it didnt work.. what i recommend it to ass one more very cheap item.. like how the candy bard were .49 u would pay a total of .52 for that second translation witch is till good. sometiles they have items for .09 or .15, this next week there is a walgreens coupon for mini memo pads that would be good to add .. if u ust that coupon though get 2 mot books.. then u will have the polish and 2 note books .. 3 items.. then use the rr, the polish coupon, and the note book coupon 3 coupons.. 3 items 3 coupons… this transation exactly may not work because the polish i dont think i on sale after today, but the idea is the same..

    • Ecuakenzie says:

it beeped because you were off by $.01–the coupon brought your total to $2.99, before taxes. You needed a “filler” item to bring the total before taxes to $3 in order to use your RR.

    • 6mccanns says:

That is wrong because I use RR with man coupons all the time.

      • Jenny says:

You have to account for tax too. If the total BEFORE taxes is 2.99 (like Ecuakenzie mentioned), then the RR was over the amount. Also, you usually need an item for each coupon…RR are considered coupons.

      • Jenny says:

      • Wrcc2011 says:

I had the same problem as Judy. Walgreens cashier told me that RR and Manf Coupons cannot be combined since RR are also manf coupons..

For example, if I buy a Pert Shampoo and use $3 RR from a previous transaction + Manf Coupon and a filler (Orbit)..is that supposed to work? even though filler item is less then RR $?

        • HeatherLindquist1976 says:

RR will work..just make sure say that you have 4 items you can only use 5 coupons now thats counting reg coupons and RR togeather..

    • Guest says:

      I think this starts on SUNDAY – it’s next week’s deals…

    • Cwbys4 says:

they are considered mfc, and count so make sure the item to coupon ratio is fight and you will be okay

    • Sweetchea66 says:

on ur second trans u need to add an item that is less than $1 to off set the overage …( if u hav 6 item and 6 manufacturer coupon in order to use the walgreen rewards u need 7 item then it will be free..)

    • Jewelrygirl says:

Sometimes the register beeps because the order the coupons are swiped in. A RR IS a manufacturer coupon it states it across the top of the RR. Walgreens partners with manufacturers to offer RR in conjunction with coupons from Sunday papers for a better value to the consumer. Don’t forget you can use a Easy Saver coupon with an ad coupon and a manufacturers coupon! Just be sure you’re organized and reading the ad for specific details. We actually LOVE couponers and we benefit from your visit!
      thanks,

      • Angela says:

Yeah, corporate might love coupons, but some of your employees (including store managers) do not and are quite hostile to customers who use them.

        • Chelsea says:

It is not regular couponers that employees are frustrated with. It is those couponers with a full cart that expect to get many over the limit. Today, I rang a woman with 2 full carts, every item having at least 1 or 2 coupons. It took 1 hour. For 1 customer. I just think that those couponers tend to give employees a hard time with other couponers.
