Use a Paper Plate to Make a Black Cat Craft!

Need a fun project for the kids on a rainy fall day? Check out this cute black cat, just in time for Halloween. It’s sure to be a hit with the little ones, and it uses things most of us already have around the house. No bad luck here!

What you will need:

  • 1 paper plate
  • Black paint
  • Tape
  • Scissors
  • White craft glue
  • Paintbrush
  • 2 large green wiggle eyes
  • 1 small pink pom-pom
  • Pattern

Directions:

Step 1. Have your kids paint the back of the paper plate black.
Step 2. Turn the plate over and cut out the body using the pattern. Cut out the tail and head from the remaining piece of plate.
Step 3. Use tape to attach the tail and head to the white side of the plate.
Step 4. Glue on wiggle eyes and the pink pom-pom for a nose.  You could also use paint to add eyes and a nose!
Step 5.  Out of the scraps of the plate, cut six thin strips for whiskers. Glue three on each side.

Thanks for this great idea, Crafts By Amanda!

My 4 year old daughter saw this and loved it. She insisted we do it immediately. We were short on time, so we used a dark green plate so we could avoid the painting step. We had pipe cleaners (whiskers), wiggly eyes, and pom-poms (nose) on hand, so it worked out great. She LOVED the finished project and is so proud of it. We now have it hanging on our front door with our other Halloween decorations. Thanks for the great idea!

  2. I bet you could even attach a headband to that and wear it on your head! Instant costume!
