Extreme Couponing Tip: Expired Coupons

Those new to Krazy Couponing may find they have questions about expiration dates on coupons. Read below for the 101!

  • You CAN use a coupon on the expiration date listed. For example, if you have a coupon that expires today, you may use it up until midnight.
  • The great majority of stores do NOT allow the use of expired coupons. It is a very rare occurrence if your store does, and if this is the case, remember that this is a privilege the store is providing, and they are under no obligation to continue doing so.
  • It is unlawful to cut off the expiration date when clipping a coupon so as to try to prolong the time it is valid. Stores will not accept a coupon that does not list an expiration date.
  • Remember that you do NOT have to use every single coupon before the expiration date! A major tenet of being a Krazy Couponer is creating a stash of coupons and using them only when those items are on sale. Great coupons will show up again in the near future, so don’t fret about parting with them if the opportune chance didn’t come up.
  • Did you know that overseas military families can use coupons up to 6 months past their expiration date? To find out how to donate your expired and unused coupons, visit HERE for the details.
