3-Day Thanksgiving Sale!

Posted in: The Brag Lounge, Walgreens  //  Comments (3)

These were the deals I got at Walgreens and CVS during the 3-day Thanksgiving sale. I did NOT clear shelves at ANY of the stores; I have about ten Walgreens in my area and bought things at each one. I also went to 2 CVS’s to gather everything on my list since the first location didn’t have everything I wanted. I only have one Extra Care card so as you can see I only did each CVS deal once. Most of these items will not be kept by me, I bought them for stocking stuffers as I am helping my aunt frugally buy stocking stuffers for 27 people! I believe the college kids in my family will appreciate toothpaste and flossers :) as well as razors and other necessities. After bringing this home, my hubby finally bought me some much-needed shelves to store my stockpile. I honestly have no idea how much the retail value of all of this is worth but I would guess upward of $400 (and that’s with sale prices). Hope everyone had a great shopping holiday weekend!

My cats may be spoiled, but never hungry.

Posted in: Target, The Brag Lounge  //  Comments (5)

So last week I went to Target and bought some stuff I thought I needed at the time, and at the end of my transaction a Catalina for $5 off my next $50 purchase printed. Yay. But it was going to expire yesterday. Ugh. SO I made two trips to Target in a week. UNHEARD OF! For me, anyway.

The night before my trip, I was going through my extremely disorganized coupons (CURSE YOU, FULL-TIME EMPLOYMENT!), and I found 4 more $2/1 Tide P&G coupons! AHHHHH!!!! As some of you may recall, I bought a buttload of Tide this Sunday at CVS (see, e.g., “Got Tide?!! Take 2″). My first thought was to go back, but with only 4 coupons, the disappearance of the beloved Glade coupon from the CVS website, and my disdain at buying yet more tissues for my stockpile, I figured I couldn’t put together a decent enough deal. So I decided to just unload them at Target.

Also, I needed canned food for my five cats. That’s right. Don’t judge me. They ONLY eat Fancy Feast Elegant Melodies, just like they ONLY eat $30/bag dry cat food. Spoiled brats. We definitely pay more to feed them than to feed ourselves. Normally their canned food runs around 74-85 cents, depending on where I buy it (Target’s generally the cheapest pre-sale). I typically buy it in multiples of 18 because there’s these peelie coupons on some of the cans that takes $1 off 18 cans. And it’s usually the only freakin’ coupon out there. Sigh.

So I explain all this so you know that, while my numbers aren’t AMAZING here, they are pretty good for spoiled cat food. I mean, food for spoiled cats. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN! Pet lovers will understand.

ANYWHO, so I decide to buy the canned food, as well as pick up a few deals recently advertised on the ol’ KCL site. Also my fiance wanted the green hand santizer. Nevermind we have a TON of the clear stuff from all the Rite Aid sales. Nope. Gotta have aloe. FINE. ADDED TO LIST.

So it went down like this:

- Bought 72 cans of Fancy Feast Elegant Melodies (18 x the 4 coupons I found on cans; this will last us 5 weeks. Serenity now.): ON SALE! W00T! Marked down from 74 cents/can to 70 cents/can (hey, every bit helps). 72 * $0.70 = $50.40 (BAM! Already hit the $50 mark for the $5 coupon!) – $4 for the 4 $1/18 coupons = $46.40/72 = $0.64/can. Even cheaper than the multi-packs when they’re on sale! I think. It’s been awhile since I bought a multipack. No coupons for the multipacks!

- Bought 8 of the single load Tides. Obviously I wasn’t sure if this would fly. They were only $0.97 each so I got 8 instead of 4 to cover as much overage as possible in an attempt to appease my cashier. BUT she didn’t even care! She was blindly overriding beeping coupons left and right! No rounding down or anything! So now I wish I had only bought 4. Oh well. So $0.97 * 8 = $7.76 – $8 (4 $2/1 coupons) = $0.24 overage.

- Bought 4 of the NYC cheap nail polishes at $0.94 each. Used 4 $1/1 Target coupons. Again, every couponer’s dream-come-true cashier was clearing all coupons, so I got another $0.24 overage.

- Bought 2 Swiss Miss Hot Chocolates. On sale for $1.19 each, marked down here from $1.29 each. I used 1 $0.50/2 manufacturer coupon and 1 $0.50/2 Target coupon. So $1.19 x 2 = $2.38 – $1 = $1.38/2 = $0.69 each. I mix these packets with real milk, not water. Cause I’m a rebel.

- Bought 1 quart milk, cause how else am I gonna drink the hot chocolate?! Duh. $2.29.

- AND bought 1 green Target brand hand santizer, $1.99 (he ain’t getting the fancy stuff! Who does he think he is, the cats?!). Used 1 $0.50/1 Target coupon, lowering the cost to $1.49.

So in sum:

- Bought $71.66 (($0.74 * 72) + ($1.29 * 2) + ($0.94 * 4) + ($0.97 * 8) + $1.99 + 2.29) worth of product, shelf price (but that’s Target shelf price, not some crazy overpriced drug store shelf price!)

- Saved $3.08 off shelf price with discounts on the Fancy Feast and the Swiss Miss, bringing the pre-tax total to $68.58.

- Saved $23.50 with manufacturer and Target coupons, bringing the pre-tax total to $45.08.

- Saved $2.27 by using my Target debit card, which takes 5% off my final purchase, bringing the pre-tax total to $42.81.

- And paid $3.40 in taxes, making my final OOP cost $46.21.

So I saved 35.5% off the entire purchase. Which is about as well as I ever do at Target when I buy anything substantive I can’t get for free. This is why I prefer drugstore couponing!

I typed this entire thing with a cat on my lap. It won’t stop vibrating.
