Make Your Phone Pay for Itself with these 3 Money-Making Apps

Kinsey.Lindgren

I often wonder how I lived before my iPhone, but I simultaneously wonder how I am able to afford paying for it! Shortly after purchasing it, I sat there pondering about the expression “there’s an app for everything.” Essentially, I wanted to find out if there was an app that would allow my phone to pay for itself. As it turns out, there are many!

Companies are turning to phone apps to reward customers for paying attention to advertisements, giving feedback, and visiting their stores.  This is great news for me because I am able to earn money for my normal shopping and dining activities. Got an iPhone? It’s time that you put it to work with these top money-earning apps:

Surveys on the Go

Be heard on a wide array of topics: politics, education, technology, and many more!

  • Download the Surveys on the Go App from the App Store on your iPhone.
  • Create an account with a username and password.
  • Log in and click “New Surveys” at the bottom of the screen to view a list of available surveys.
  • Sign-up for push notifications to be alerted when a new survey is available.
  • Complete surveys. In any given week, you will have 1 or more available.  Earn $1 for each brief and fun survey.
  • Don’t forget to load the app when you’re waiting for a meeting to start, waiting for a doctor’s appointment, during commercials, etc.
  • Get paid! Once you reach $10, you can request your money through Paypal!

GigWalk

Earn cash for reviewing businesses, verifying their location, and taking pictures of businesses or menus.

  • Download the Gigwalk App from the App Store on you iPhone.
  • Create an account with a username and password.
  • When prompted, opt to use your “current location” to locate gigs available.
  • Touch the “List Gigs” command at the bottom of the app.
  • Browse gigs by Pay, by Job, by Nearby Cities, or if you’ll be traveling and want to see gigs available at your destination, browse by other regions.
  • Select a gig.  Gigs are available in most major cities. Each gig requires a certain amount of “streetcred.”
  • Start building “streetcred” by completing simple tasks–checking in to a given restaurant, sending in a picture of the restaurant’s menu, etc.
  • As you build your “streetcred,” you will have the opportunity to complete higher paying gigs (requiring you to take 3+ photos, answering a brief 3-10 question survey about the locale, updating menu info, etc.).
  • Complete your gig and receive your payment through PayPal!

Field Agent

Yes, this app does make you a sort of secret agent, responsible for completing important missions to ensure superior customer service and proper advertisement!

  • Download the Field Agent App from the App Store on your iPhone.
  • Create an account with a username and password.
  • Complete the profile questionnaire about your favorite brands and stores to get access to additional jobs.
  • Click on the “Jobs” icon at the bottom of the app to view current cash opportunities.
  • Select a Job to view the instructions for that particular job.
  • Most jobs ask you to go to a particular store (Target, Vons, Walmart), take a picture of a particular display (tea display, body lotion display, chips and snacks, etc.), and answer 1-5 questions about the display (What product seems to be featured? What product would you buy from this display?)
  • Accept the Job.  Once you accept, the job will be reserved for you. It must be completed within 2 hours.  Otherwise, it will go to another agent!
  • “Execute” your “job” and get paid through PayPal!  Most payouts are for $4-$5.00.

These are great apps that pay you in cash and complement other rewards apps like Checkpoints and Shopkick. In my first month, I accumulated over $50 in cash and a lot more in Target, Walmart, and CVS gift cards to help me cover the tax for my free coupon shopping! Since then, I’ve earned many more gift card and cash rewards, and my phone practically DOES pay for itself.  Be on the lookout for additional jobs, gigs, and surveys during the holidays. Pretty soon, you won’t be able to keep track of all your rewards and prizes, but don’t worry…I am confident that there IS an app for that!
