Let’s Shop: Week of 6/3 Results

I haven’t had time to go to Target this week and I may not since there wasn’t much I wanted there.  Luckily, I was pleased with the finds at the other stores, particularly at CVS!  I had a bad time at Walgreens, though, and found empty shelves where the Omega Smart fish oil and BrainStrong should have been.

I am fairly new to this site.  Well I’ve been following the blog for a couple of months now but have not really gotten too  much into it.  Now that I’m trying to get the hang of couponing and the terms used in this site, i’m a little confused as to how they use the Register Rewards obtained from the purchases.  Do you just save them and use them next time u shop or do you ask the cashier to let you split your purchases and use the register reward received from the 1st transaction onto the second transaction.  This whole couponing thing is a little confusing.  At top she said she paid $8 something for over 150 worth of product, but is that while she uses the RR’s at the register or she walks away with them to use for later.  ?

    • Anonymous says:

Well, I don’t usually shop at Walgreens, but for what I’ve read, the RRs are for another transaction.  So, you can separate transactions and use the RR from transaction #1 BUT NOT IF in transaction #2 you have products that gave you RR in transaction #1 because you will NOT receive new RR for those products.  Unless you are not interested in getting more RRs… Lol…  HTH… ;)

  2. My walgreens was sold out of both the omega smart and brainstrong for kids. I ended up only be able to get the goody headbands and the acid reducer.:(

  3. I have a question??? On the Pedisure could u have stacked the walgreens coupon with the manufacturer couping making it a $4 money maker?

  4. Kaye Lu says:

I have a serious question because I had a major issue with the shift manager at Walgreens this morning: I was buying:
    (6) Pantene Items 3- Shampoos & 3-Conditioners
    (5) Pampers wipes
I then was attempting to use (3) $3.00 Off two Pantene Products & the following RR:
$6.00 RR from the Walgreens Acid Reducers and (5) $2.00 RR from the goody hair acc.
In my head I am thinking, I am going to purchase $25 worth of P&G products and get my $5.00 RR. Of course that didn’t happen. Can some one explain to me why? I had 8 coupons and 11 items…did I need to add another item because the pantene coupons were picking up for the “2″ pantene and therefore I needed another item for the $6.00 RR? If that’s the case please tell me because I got an earfull from the manager on duty….it was 4AM at the time. Please, please, please someone let me know. I live in Texas.

    • Kaye Lu says:

My query is because he gave me some huge lecture over how I locked up his system because I was trying to qualify for another special the $5 RR for $25 worth of P&G products. He was telling me I can’t do that, that I could split up my cart into two transactions and use my pantene coupons on one and my RR on the other but not both sets together on all my items because I was trying to qualify for another special to get more RR back and the system had a fraud detection element in the software and since I had purchased all P&G products it locked up the system cause I was trying to use too many coupons and get all my stuff for free, which I wasn’t I would have been paying 8.45 out of pocket plus tax….and then he went on about how couponing is bankrupting companies and making peole lose their jobs, but “that was a whole other story”. I just took my coupons and RR back and left very upset. So that is why I need to know.

      • Anonymous says:

How can the companies go bankrupt with couponing if the manufacturer ir giving back the store the amount of the product and an extra “x” cents for processing and handling the coupon????  That manager was talking non sense!!!  I can only think if people are misusing the coupons but in your case there was no coupon fraud.  I think what happened is that you needed a filler item because the pantene coupons were attached to the 2 indicated in the coupon (I don’t regularly shop at Walgreens so I might be wrong, but I think that was the problem here).  But I don’t think he should have been that “harsh” with you.  He could’ve suggested to just grab a candy for a filler and everything would have been peace and love.. Especially at 4AM!!!!   Geez, maybe he was grumpy because he wanted to be in bed!  :-P

    • because you pantene coupons =6 items, not 3

    • Linda Maness says:

ok you had 6 pantene which were covered by the 3, $3 coupons off two.  you had 5 pampers wipes which you could use 5 coupons (the $2 RR from the goody) or 4 coupons and the $6 RR from the Walgreens Acid Reducers.  You were 1 over what the system would allow.  You should have gone and bought a pack of gum or chicklets or something for like $.39 and you would have been able to use the last coupon. Am I correct?  your 3 $3 off Pantene counts as 2 coupons.  just remember if you are buying 6 items and you have 6 coupons you will have to buy addtl filler items to use your RR, kinda sucks but that’s the way they have it set up.  Just grab something cheap to fill, I usually buy one of their $.79 waters because I am usually on my weekly sales run and I need all the hydration I need!!! I hope this helps you.

    • Kaye Lu says:

Thanks everyone, that was the issue, but apparently he wasn’t aware of it. I decided on not getting the same items the next time I went back, which was to a different location. I decided to use my RR on the BOGO Covergirl Mascara. I got:
      2- Pantene  (2/$7.00)
      4-Covergirl Mascaras BOGO 50% Off (6.99/3.50)
      5- .33 cent caramels
      Used the following MQs:
      3.00 Off (2) Pantene Products
2- BOGO Covergirl  which took off 6.99
2- 1.00 OFF any Covergirl cosmetic
      and a $6 RR and (2) $2 RR.
So when everything was said and done my subtotal was .63 cents plus .05 cent tax= .68 cents out of pocket for a pantene shampoo & conditioner, 4 Covergirl mascaras and 5 delicious caramels. I was very happy. I will know better next time. Also again thank you everyone who read my post and validated and justified my feelings of anger & thoughts (that he had no clue what he was talking about) with the manager that night. I kept my composure the entire time until I got in my car. LOL. I knew he was wrong though so I feel much better. :).

  5. You may want to hit WAG again, as there are unadvertised RR printing wyb 2 Covergirl mascara, use your Bogo and $1/1, and the Olay Regenerist, using the $3/1, and just to be safe, get a Venus razor and refill, use your Bogo and $2 off coupons. When you get the lowest priced items on this deal, it’s a $0.50-1.50MM. Pay about $15 and get $16RR back; $8 for the Venus, and a mystery $3 and $5 RR from P&G. I saw it on YouTube, did the deal earlier and later today, and it all worked out just the same. The CG mascara is ringing up less than marked, the Regenerist is on sale, and the Venus is coming up as advertised.

    • Anonymous says:

To get the RR for Cover Girl Mascara you HAVE to buy the Olay Regenerist, am I correct?

Hey just want to put this out there.  I checked my email, CVS sent me an offer.  It’s only good for Friday 6/8.  If you scan your card at the red coupon machine, a coupon for $1.99 for Coke 12pk with any $10 purchase will pop out.  Good thing I check my emails, I was going to CVS tomorrow to get more Covergirl LashBlast.  Might as well get some Coke too, it’s my favorite.

  7. Anonymous says:

Hey!  I noticed again for the second week in a row some wording that I honestly feel is misleading to some new couponers.

Bought 2 Walgreens Lansoprazole Acid Reducer, 14 ct $6.00

Buy 1, Receive $6.00 Register Reward

Pay $6.00, Receive $6.00 Register Reward
    Paid: Nothing

Unless you used an RR from the previous week you had to have paid something OOP.  I think possibly adding “OOP” and “Like Paying” instead of just “paid” it may clear up some confusion.

Sorry to sound like a nitpick.  I just have a friend who gets constantly confused when she sees this wording.

  8. Anonymous says:

how do you know what is a “monthly special” and a “weekly special”

    • Tina Seitz says:

the weekly specials have yellow tags. and the monthly have white tags…(on the shelves)

  9. Aline Brown says:

I really like walmart brand (parent’s choice) wipes and diapers. The wipes are thick and strong and the diapers really get the job done. They end up in the trash anyways so if they keep your baby dry and comfortable, why pay for a brand??? I get a box with 86 (size 4) diapers for $13.97 and 3 pks of wipes with 80 wipes each for $4.47. You can’t beat that price even with coupons.. I loooove couponing but in this case is just not worth it…

  10. Just the opposite for me.. empty shelves at CVS.. but did manage to get a raincheck for the Crest Mouth Rinse actually gave me to along with the EB. Did the Covergirl deal too.

    • Linda Maness says:

i did my deal today at CVS and got about $70 worth of stuff for $6 (shampoo, clearanced Maybelline Lipstick & Lip Liner & Concealer, Cover girl mascara, Clearanced Old Spice Deodorant, Clearanced Irish Spring Deodorant, 3 crest toothpaste with $10 coupons inside each box plus I got a 9 roll package of charmin tp for free.)  Cover Girl Mascara deal here is better at Walgreens, there price on their Cover Girl Mascara is only $6.99 compared to 8.99 and 9.99 at CVS.

  11. Anonymous says:

Always save your CVS coupon machine coupons as they will accept them up to 7 days past their expiration which made for a great deal on the Crest Mouthwash ($5.99 plus $5 ECB) used the $1 off mouthwash CVS Q plus I had $1 off Crest Mouthwash Q’s that were inside Crest toothpaste packages and they have 2013 expiration dates on them), so this was a MM for me!

  12. Anonymous says:

Not the right place to post them but didn’t know correct place.  I always look at the Brag Lounge daily to see the most recent deals everyone has found but the most recent ones I see are from 6/5 – nothing from yesterday or today.  Has something changed on where to view them?

    • Anonymous says:

I’ve been having the same problem!  I tried switching from Firefox to Safari and that didn’t help.  Anybody have a suggestion for us?

  13. sully says:

i always like reading what you buy cause i found out of deals otherwise i would have missed. like the moisturizer im in need of it badly i will go get this one.

  14. Jadda says:

I found empty shelves this week at Walgreens too : (  But you are right, still a great week at CVS!!

    • Poolside1 says:

There were no razors @ 1 of my CVS stores. Also, all the tags were $10.49 to $12.99 per pack. I stood there looking at this and said to myself, this stinks! Finally, determine to get these razors, I went to the other store @ lunch. I told myself that I just wasted my time, much less the gas $. I LOOKED all over and finally found 4 packs laying around, matched the bar codes and WOO-HOO, score!!!

  15. Joanna says:

CVS would not let me combine my $2 Q with my BOGO Q for the razors. I was also using a 20% off Q that CVS had emailed me. The problem was that it would not send the 20% to my card so they said they would enter it manually. They only accepted the BOGO Q’s and took 20% off my subtotal after coupons. This didn’t sound right to me. Has anyone else had this issue before??

    • tammy grayson says:

I used b1g1 Q and 200/1 off coupon and my 20% that they e-mailed me….she had to put the 2.00/1 coupon in by hand, but it worked:))))

      • Poolside1 says:

In Galveston, (being a “resort town”, yeah right!) my CVS wouldn’t accept my M coupon w/ my BOGO. But I did do good! I got 4 Schick razor packs, 2 Covergirl makeups, 2 Starbucks refreshers (yuck), 6 Hershey bars, 2 Crest mouthwash and 1 Lady’s spped stick for $15.07!!

  16. Ana Lilia says:

KCL, when you post that the item price is an online price (for example the Gillette at CVS is $7.49 Online Price), are we suppose to bring in a copy of that so they can give it to us at that price?

    • KCL posts the online price when they haven’t confirmed the store price yet.  The online price listed here is just for reference, so you can get an estimate of what your actual deal would be.  Your store price may be different.  (My store’s prices tend to be higher than the online price.)

    • Anonymous says:

No they will not honor that price. We often use the online price because we can’t check every regions price. Prices vary according to region.

  17. Anonymous says:

I would like to start out by saying  my CVS accepts  expired  big  red box  coupons and EXPIRED CVS ecb….With that said my shopping trip played out like this. I bought the following:
    4- gillette custom 4 pk razors 8.39 ea =33.56
    1-Physians Formula firming/lifting booster = 22.79
    for a total of 56.55
I used an expired CVS 15.00 off any phy. form  face product, 2-B1G1 free gillette custom razor q’s and 2- 2.00 off any gillette razor. My total before coupons came to 56.55, after my coupons and  1.75 in expired ecb my total after 6 % sales tax came to 23.95 and I received 2 ECB. 1 for 10.00 from the gillette and 1 for 15.00 from the physicians form. My total oop was 23.95 and i received 25.00 in ecb.

On Friday (only) the crazy coupon machine at CVS will be printing out a coupon for $1.99 12 pack of Coke product with a $10 purchase-just got an email:)

  19. Has anyone used the vitamins and supplements book coupon for brainstrong on the brainstrong gummies this week? I was wondering if this is the correct product for that coupon. I went to 2 separate Walgreens this week to check but unfortunately, they were out of them. Was gonna try another one if the coupon is correct.

  20. When you say ‘online price’ for the gillette razors at CVS, is that the price they were in the store also or did you show them the online price and they gave them to you for that price?

    • Anonymous says:

In my experience I have found that the online price is lower than the in-store price and sometimes I have had to adjust my purchases to fit the match-up. I have also shopped in more diverse areas and they tend to have lower prices than the online price. The reason the online price is displayed in the match-ups is because different regions have different prices, meaning the price in Iowa may not be the price in Michigan. So to give an overall price matchup, the online price is the best way,you just have to research prices in your area.

    • Joanna says:

They were $8.29 at my store. Still a great deal. I would imagine the price varries from region to region but not by much.

  21. Anonymous says:

I bought 2 Brainstrong for KIds, I did 2 transactions. After first I got $10RR. So I thought, to reduce the OOP amount, I will use $10RR on 2nd transaction, and then RR did not print :(

    • Heather says:

If you use RR from same product, it won’t print again

    • You should youtbe the videos the KCL have created, It has helped me to the fullest! They taught me all about there is to know about coupons. They give great tips and explain the transactions specfically for certain stores. ;)

    • Linda Maness says:

There is also a $4 coupon in the June Walgreens coupon book that makes it a $4 moneymaker.  I found 4 of them at different Walgreens…paid $24 got $40 RR back $16 moneymaker

    • Kaye Lu says:

That is because you can not use the RR you got from one item to pay for the same item if you want to get another RR.

    • Anonymous says:

Can’t use the RR you just got on the same product have to use on something else try the Omega Smart $10 RR then do brain Strong again just keep alterating and also use the $4 coupon in the vitamin book in the vitamin aisle.
