I’ve had two CVS cards and none of them have worked, I’ve also attempted to make an account through CVS but it says that my cards are not valid. What do you recommend I do?

This may be long, but can anyone please help me understand????

As taken from the CVS coupon Policy

    Sale Items
CVS/pharmacy will accept manufacturer coupons for an item that is on sale. CVS/pharmacy will not accept percent off coupons for an item that is on sale.

How do the 25% off (20%, 30%, etc) coupons from CVS work?   I can never figure out how it computes the savings and just when I think I have, it proves me wrong again!

Tonight I went in with a 25% coupon that expired today.  I bought several items on sale, some not on sale, as well as some items to receive Extra Bucks.  My subtotal pre coupons was $54.xx and I gave the 25% coupon first which showed a savings of $13.xx (not sure of the exact amounts).  Well, it happens that 25% of $54 is $13.50, like I received the 25% discount on all of my purchases (which gave me a BRIEF moment of excitement).  I handed the cashier the rest of my coupons which included a CVS coupon for $3 off $15 beauty products and $11.00 in man. coupons.  When I got my receipt, the 25% coupon had dropped to $2.38.  I understand it is not suppose to be good on sale and promotional items, but it seems that I went from $13.xx to $2.38–a difference of $11 (the amount of my man coupons)  Is this a coincidence or how the coupon works?  I am so confused!!  If I could have saved  the same amount using the 25% off coupon, there was no need to “waste” my man. coupons.  I cannot figure any other scenario that gives me the $2.38 discount on my purchases.  With non sale/non promotional items, I should have saved at least $4.75.

As an extra note, I did not use my prev. earned extra bucks to pay for my purchases tonight because I was once told these would count against the discount as well.

Can anyone enlighten me because the cashier and asst manager do not seem to know how it works either.

I have yet to totally grasp how the %off coupon discount is calculated.  This is what I know for sure.
      1. Nothing comes off for sale/promo items.  If you look at your receipt, these items are broken out at the top.  Then the green bag tag scan shows and then the list of the regular priced items for which the %off coupon will apply.
      2. The discount does apply to items that are regular price, but produce an ECB.
      3. CVS coupons are lumped into 2 different types – CVS Coupons (most $/$$ coupons fall into this category, so assume it is when planning your transaction) & CVS Mfr Coupons.  The value of your CVS coupon is reduced by the % of the coupon that you use.  For example, if you have a $3/$15 and a 25%, your effective discount will be $2.25/$15.  The value of CVS Mfr Coupons are NOT reduced by the % coupon.  Basically your % discount is reduced by the $0.75.
      4. The value of CVS ECBs (from beauty club, green bag tag, or manually printed ECBs) is reduced by the % coupon.  ECBs that you get from purchasing specific products are not reduced.  For example, if you used a $5 beauty club ECB and a 25% off, your % discount would be reduced by $1.25, making your ECB effectively $3.75.

The only reason that I can see that you had $13.xx in discount at first is if you handed your CVS card at the end of the transaction and the cashier hadn’t hit the subtotal key yet.  The discount is not reduced by any manufacturer coupons, even if it’s a CVS coupon from the MCM that is for a (non-CVS brand) specific product.

Using the rules above, I am usually able to calculate within 50 cents, what the discount should be using the % off coupon (and I do large transactions).  For the life of me, I can’t figure out another rule that gets me to exactly what the discount is every time.  I am thinking there is another adjustment for the tax associated with the CVS coupons, but I haven’t been able to confirm anything specific. HTH.

Check your receipt against the 4 items above and see if what actually came off for the % coupon makes sense.

I really appreciate your response and I think I understand most of your explanation.  However, I still cannot seem to make it work.  I always hand my cvs card 1st thing to scan, so when I saw $13.xx, my card had already been scanned.

I will not list everything I purchased, but I see how everything on sale is shown first on the receipt; then I have oil of olay buy one (shows reg price of 8.99), one 50% off (shows sale price 4.49); then I have Neosporin (reg price of 8.49, w/3.00 EB offered); then green tag scan; then 1 item for 9.99 (happens to be a “as seen on TV” and may not be countable?)

        So, reg. priced items total $27.47 x 25% = $6.87
        Take away Olay promo (?) for B1/1 50% off; total = $18.48 x 25% = 4.62
        If I take away 25% of my $3/$15 = -.75 still leaves 3.87
If only items listed after green tag scan count, then 9.99 x 25% = 2.50, which is the closest to actual amount given of $2.38.
But that would mean that my Neosporin, not on sale, but EB, did not count for 25%.

I looked on a prev. receipt and tried to follow your guideline and I come close but not exactly to the 25%.  However, on that receipt, it would have taken off 25 % of the reg price item in a promo of Buy1/1 free. If the reg. price item counts in these Buy 1/get 1 offers, then I am still considerably off in my org scenario, considering the Oil of Olay reg. priced item alone would have given me $2.25.

At this point, I just have to let it be, but thanks to your explanation, I have a little better insight for next time!!

        Well put, Sheila_P!

% coupons exclude sale items, including B1G1 sales. The % coupon is GREAT to use with ECB deals that are not on sale. The following will reduce you % coupons:
        -$4/$20, $3/$15 coupons (etc)
        -Forced ECB
        -$1 Green Bag Tag ECB
        -Beauty Club ECB

Any CVS coupon that rings up as a CVS MFR and any Manufacturer coupon will not reduce your % coupon. Hope that helps!

I love the MCM but have been very frustrated lately.  I tend to shop at night and it seems alot of the times I would go in, the MCM would be unavailable due to the tallying of the day’s totals by the store’s computers (our store is not 24hr).  Other times the machine simply would not work.  They finally put in a second machine near the pharmacy and that helped. Now, at least 4 times in the last two weeks, the machines cannot print because they are out of paper and they do not have any paper to refill and must wait until a stock truck arrives, usually every 2-3 days!!  It’s very frustrating to know the deals I am missing out on!!

    • Anonymous says:

Call corporate and let them know your complaints.  There was a 5 week period where NONE of the MCMs in my area were in order and so I hear your frustration.  However, just know that the coupons that don’t print everyday, which are the higher value ones based on your past transactions, print at the end of your receipt if you have a transaction and wasn’t able to scan your card.  So all is not a loss.

      • Anonymous says:

Thanks–I wondered about that because some of the coupons listed here that people received at the MCM actually printed on my receipt!!

    • Anonymous says:

Sorry about your frustrations! I hope they learn from this and order more paper each week so they don’t run out!

I received the $1/1 nivea body wash & found a travel size on a cardboard standee by the maybelline cosmetics. It was $1.29, so .29 oop, and it was the perfect filler for the garnier/ $3/15 beauty purchase since my store was out of the nivea tins.
Also, check for the garnier shampoo & conditioner in the old product packaging. It is ringing up $1.99.

  5. Melissa says:

I’ve been couponing for a while now, but I am confused by the wording on my $5/$15 beauty q. Does anyone know what CVS considers “beauty products”? I’m a member of the beauty club but all that covers is cosmetics for the most part. HELP! :)

  6. ndchick07 says:

So I’ve picked up a few of those nivea $1/1 moisturizer mcm as well as a $3/15 beauty mcm. I’m planning on doing the garnier deal for 5 shampoo/conditioners(since i’ve got manufacturer coupons for those).  If I get some nivea tin’s and some garnier shampoo which precoupons >15, can I use both the $3/15 and $1/1 nivea’s (one for each) will that work or do I need something besides the nivea’s to push me the nickel over 15 to use the $3/15. Thanks for the help, CVS is new to the area so I’m still trying to get the hang of it.

    • Anonymous says:

This will work!  I did the same thing!  I received $5 off $15 and used it on the Garnier deal and bought a Nivea tin to push it over the $15 mark so I could use the MCM coupon.  I used my $1/1 Nivea coupon as well and it went thru just fine.

  7. Ttl10 says:

$2 off $10 purchase of beauty products!

  8. Anonymous says:

If you haven’t already, go scan your card today!  I got $5 off $15 beauty purchase, which is going to make the Garnier deal a $0.05 MM!

  9. Huelleb says:

At the CVS coupon machine I received 20% off total purchase for providing my email. It was great because I got my first 70% savings receipt. I’m not just a coupon lady anymore! I also received the two Nivea coupons. (As a beginner I moved my savings from 20-30% upto a consistent 50-60%).

  10. Anonymous says:

I used the $5 off $10 vitamins on the BrainStrong DHA for toddlers.  It was on clearance at my CVS 75% off!  Only $4.57.  I bought 3:)  Yay!

  11. i need everyones help….i went to cvs today and got a few things.
i calculated my total to at around $5 but turned out that i paid $1.45

here is how she rang up my sale.

    one of each.

    2L coke                                   $1
    purex                                       $1.99
    listerine                                   $3.99
    gum
    perioshield                              $2.82
    dawn                                       $.99
    hershe simple pleasure           $.67
    nature made vitamins             $2.32
    nivea tin                                  $.99     total =$14.77

she added $2 for the fb coupon for $2 off candy and beverages instead of taking it off

    so total was  $16.77

    coupons used

    $1 nivea
    $2 vitamins
    $2.82 perio shield
    $1  listerine
    $.50 purex

    total of

    $9.45

    then i gave her $ 8 ecb
    oop $1.45

i went back and did a $.50 off dawn and the $2 off

so my calculations for what i thought would be is this

    $14.77
    _
    $1 nivea
    $2 vitamins
    $2.82 perio shield
    $1 listerine
    $.50 purex
    $.50 dawn
    $2    fb coupon

my total should have been $4.95 without the $8 ecb

    am i wrong?

plz help me….i dont know if i should go back and tell them

    • Edith Chaves says:

what do you mean u went back and did .50 cents off dawn and the $2 off?? you didnt hand her those with all the rest of the coupons?? and u said she added $2 to your total insead of taking it off? how is that possible?

…. but yess if you gave her all those coupons you listed the second time, your right, your total should have been $4.95 without your extra bucks

BUT since you said the cashier added $2 to your total making it $16.77 and not $14.77, then thats the problem your subtracting the coupons as if your total was $14.77 when your total was $16.77 bc the cashier added $2 instead of subtracting it

your total was $9.45 (before EB) because you said u WENT BACK to get your .50 off and your $2 off  so lets say they gave you that $2.50 back from those coupons now your total is $9.45-$2.50= $6.95 BUT you also said they added $2 to your total for some reason so the store owes you the $2 they added

      • yes my total was $16.77 because instead of taking the $2 off fb coupon she some how added it instead.  so they gave me $2.50 for the fb coupon and dawn coupon.

    • Anonymous says:

Did you get the cashier to correct the $2 FB coupon that added the $2 instead of subtracting? If not, you should definitely go back with your receipt and explain what happened and they should be able to correct it. Everything else about your transaction looks accurate!

      • they gave me back the $2 dollars and $.50 from the coupon i forgot.

i think im just over thinking it.

        • Anonymous says:

By my understanding, they should’ve given you $4 back for the FB coupon. $2 for when they added it to your total and $2 for the actual coupon. Does that make sense?

          • really?  ugh….this got to complicated

            • Edith Chaves says:

yeah bc they gave you back $2 and .50…… but its like they gave you back the $2 they shouldn’t have added

maybe u’ll get it like this… okay so lets say the soda you got was $4, so the lady added $2 to your total for some reason, so now it cost you $6 so you went back and they gave you your $2 back that they added….

so your down to $4 which is what it cost originally so its like they never gave u a discount at all bc the $2 they gave back to you were the $2 they had added

  12. mouse74 says:

Hi. I am a beginner. Never tried it before. I got coupons from ebay since I don’t have any yet. I spend so much on razors and I thought this might be a good week at CVS to try the couponing. So, I got 20 coupons each for $4 off one gillette venus and olay razor and $3 off  one venus razor when you buy one venus cartridge and $2 off gillette female venus or daisy dispoable razor.  How can I get a good deal out of this?
Also, where is the proper place to ask these kinds of beginner questions?

    • Edith Chaves says:

i think if your just starting out, go by what KCL does bc if you try doing deals on your own u’ll end up paying more than u should have or buying things you don’t need…get the hang of it first doing deals that KCL posts and when u get the hang of it,u’ll start to do deals on your own just by looking at the CVS ad.

…but as for you buying something with the razors….. the gillette venus &olay razor is on sale right now for $9.99 and $4 Extra bucks but its limit one extra bucks deal so only buy 1….. so the razor is $9.99 minus your $4 off coupon= $5.99 and you get $4 extra bucks so its like the razor will be $1.99 :) (after your extra bucks)

just my opinion, those $ off coupons with the purchase of cartidges really never get your total low, bc those cartridges are not cheap!

    • Anonymous says:

Welcome to the wonderful world of couponing! Edith is correct, a great way to use one of your $4/1 Venus & Olay coupon is this week! You can grab this razor for only $1.99 after Extra Bucks. Or if you wanted cartridges too, there is an Extra Bucks deal going on this week that when you buy any 1 Gillette Cartridge (including Venus), you will get $2 Extra Bucks. Also, this week Gillette Disposable razors (which includes Venus & Daisy) are B1G1 50% off. If you purchase 2 Venus Disposable Razors, then you can use two of your $2/1 Venus or Daisy Disposable coupons.

To learn how to shop at CVS and not pay too much, check out our “CVS 101″ tab at the top of our CVS homepage. Before purchasing coupons, it’s a good idea to check out our Weekly CVS Coupon Match Up’s post, which is the first post found on our CVS homepage. You can read through this post and choose which deals you want to do, and then purchase coupons accordingly.

Feel free to post questions on any post, they will all be answered! Good luck :)

Had the BEST day at CVS today thanks to this magic machine. I had one item on my list SAM-E vitamins. B1G1 this week $42 each. At the MGM I printed off $1 ECB, $3 off any vitamin purchase, and $4 off $20 purchase. Was able to use all 3 coupons for $9 off my purchase!

  19. Dawn says:

hello all. when i went in on sunday, i received two coupons that said “sent to card summary. $1 ExtraBucks Rewards. expires 08/21/2012″. there are no barcodes printed so i assumed they would just automatically come off at the register. they did not. i am new to this whole magic coupon machine thing (but am completely in lust with it!). can someone tell me what these coupons mean? or how to redeem? thank you!

    • Do you have a cvs account online? It sounded like you went online and had those sent to your card. When your card gets scanned at the register, a screen will pop up asking to redeem the rewards and then the cashier presses yes. That’s what I did with my quarterly extra bucks. I had it sent to my card and it was taken off at the register. HTH!

      • Dawn says:

Thanks for your answer, Sara Beth. I don’t have an online account (that I know of! ha!) … if I do, I didn’t do anything online in reference to my card. I’m going to make my normal Sunday trip to the store tomorrow – I’ll ask the cashier about it. I think I should have $3 total on my card ($2 from the machine and $1 from something else that I can’t remember now!). Thanks again!

  22. I just got the coupon an hour ago and took it right to the register with the .99 tin and it worked fine.  It was free.

  23. Mmartin0717 says:

The MCM printed out a $1 off cvs brand supreme diapers. I was able to get a pack of the cvs supreme overnights for $1.94. I could have gotten the cvs supreme diapers for $1.22 instead. Both an excellent deal!

  24. I got a $6 off Coppertone Sport Pro Series Sunscreen.  Good through 7/16. I’m going to hold on to it and hope for a sale to go with this and my coupon!

  25. Stacy says:

I used the $1 coupon off nivea for a .99 cent tin of body lotion. It was a .01 moneymaker!!

  26. Sally Jewell says:

Just had to share my great transaction I had yesterday. Never had my subtotal gone so low, I had to grab a filler (mini-altoids) because she was going to reduce my $10 eb to $9.28 ….

    Coppertone Sunscreen Pro-Series $12.29
    Kotex tampons $3.99
    Cover-girl Lipstick $7.00
    Cover-girl Lipstick $7.00
    Herbal essences Shampoo – $3.00
    Herbal essences Conditioner – $3.00
    Starburst $0.50
    Starburst $0.50
    Mini-altoids $1.37

    subtotal: $38.65

    - $5 off $15 (store coupon, printed on a prev. receipt)
    - $6 off coppertone (store coupon, from mcm)
    - $1 off coppertone (mq)
    - $1 off tampons (mq)
    - $3 off 2 covergirl (mq)
    - $1 off 2 herbal essences (store coupon, from mcm)
    - $1 off 2 herbal essences (mq)
    - $0.50 starbrust (mq)

    total after coupons $20.15

    used $20.00 in extra bucks

    Final total = $0.15 + $2.02 tax = $2.17

got back $5 extrabucks on receipt and I was a few cents away from getting the beauty bucks, so I’ll get that $5 eb in a few days. So figuring the eb I ‘lost’, I only spent $12.17 for almost $40 worth of product

  27. Brookeanne Walters says:

I got the grouping of Nivea and Vitamins the last couple of days.  I also got $2 off Centurum vitamins and was hoping to rush out and get more Pronutrients that were on clearance, but then I saw it was for gels and was told the Pronutrients had been pulled with other 75% off to send back.  Even though it’s a great deal, I think it’s more than I’m ready to spend as of right now for more vitamins.  Has anyone else found that their coupons also seem to change depending on time of day/store.  When I’ve been going on Sunday at 12:30am to our 24 hour store (can’t ever seem to sleep then), I seem to get so many coupons.  Does everyone get a ton of coupons during the day on Sunday?  I’m still fairly new to all of this so I don’t have much to compare it to.

  28. Edith Chaves says:

the other day i got a coupon for a free trial size Salma Hayek Haircare ($3.75 value) and the only travel size bottle i found was only $2.99 but i was also buying another item to cover the overage

the cashier did not let me purchase the $2.99 item bc she said the value of the coupon was higher so she kept insisting that i buy another travel size item to cover the coupon. shouldn’t they have simply adjusted the coupon down to the $2.99 price? i always seem to have this problem at this particular cvs. And at both CVS’s that i usually go to never let me pay with EB if my EB goes over by a penny! Aren’t they allowed to adjust EB down as well? The cashier always repeats to me that she cannot.

    • Anonymous says:

Unless your CVS has a different computer system, they should be able to adjust the coupon down.  Plus, the coupon states for a FREE item, so how would it be free if you had to buy something worth more than the coupon??  At my CVS stores, when coupons or ECBs go over the subtotal, the screen prompts the cashier asking if they want to adjust the coupon value.  Often times, if it’s an ECB for, say $5, and my total is $4.80, it will say “Coupon adjusted to $4.80.  YES or NO?”

    • Brookeanne Walters says:

Every place I have gone for something like that they have always adjusted it to cover.  I have even had them adjust it up to cover the cost when they were out of the cortaid even though I honestly hadn’t expected them to do that.  I find certain individuals at the register and certain stores are a bit more ornery about different things.  Sorry they weren’t more supportive about this purchase!

    • Anonymous says:

Yes, your EB can go over your total b4 tax (you just loose whatever is over…ie: if your subtotal is $4.98 and your EB is $5 you just lose the .02 cents, it won’t go towards tax or anything).

      • Edith Chaves says:

thanks!! yeah that what i think but this certain cashier that i always happen to get always tells me she cant adjust it down by a cent when i know she can!!

Me too! I skipped shopping @ CVS last week but scaned my card several times through out the week and all it gave me was candy coupons. I do think they are based on sales. Does anyone notice this?

The week before last I got a ton of great coupons ie. the PF, garnier  & herbal essence – which I used – along with a bunch of others I didn’t.  Last week  & the beginning of this week I only received candy coupons just like you. The last of the coupons I didn’t use expired yesterday, so I went today hoping for the $3/15 beauty & got it along w/ the nivea coupons. Maybe it has to do with when the coupons expire??

I keep scanning my card until it shows “check back tomorrow”.  You never know what else may come out.

I got a $2/1 Huggies little movers that expires on 7/21. Great to stack with the $2/1 mfr coupon. Hopefully we will get a sale soon.

I also got a $1 off any Suave lotion.

there are no exclusions listed on the nivea… but it says exclusions apply.. what are the exclusions??

    • Anonymous says:

Good question – Not sure! The coupons only states “Exclusions apply” but does not state what they are!

I left my coupon in the car, but I think my Nivea hand and body moisturizer coupon says that it excludes the Q10 products.

      • Anonymous says:

did you print yours today?? perhaps the wording from sunday to monday changed lol only thing i can think of but  why exclude te more expensive one??

    • Anonymous says:

I dont think there are any right now. I think maybe they meant to have exclusions, but considering the $1 off coupon is working for the $.99 tins of nivea, I dont think there are actually any exclusions!

      • Edith Chaves says:

I  was thinking of using the coupon on the $.99  tins as well; so it did work for you? did the coupon beep?

        • jacqui says:

it worked for me yesterday in Rhode Island!

        • Brookeanne Walters says:

Worked for me yesterday and today at our CVS here in Evansville, IN :).  If it’s the only thing you get they will have to modify the last one to whatever is left for the cost.  Both the Nivea Body wash and lotion coupons took off the cost for the $.99 Nivea hand creams.  Now I’m just hoping I can stock up on some of the white tins since I have about 12 of the blue ones between this week and last week ;)!  Good luck!

i live in Evansville IN too! Did you happen to get the Kotex coupons? I didn’t see any in the courier and press this Sunday and I was disappointed..seems like they leave out a lot of the coupons.

        • Anonymous says:

Yep, I did it this morning and worked just fine! Good Luck!

I had the same question and asked the CVS employee.  She said any exclusions are indicated in the paragraph and there wasn’t anything different from usual.
