Yes, you read that right! Starting August 26th Dollar Tree is going to accept coupons! As with most stores, there is a coupon policy. Click here to view it and print a copy directly from Dollar Tree’s website. It states:

  • Only original and intact manufacturers’ coupons will be accepted. Retailer-specific coupons will not be accepted.
  • Coupons are void if copied, scanned, or if they have been altered in any way.
  • Only two (2) print-at-home Internet coupons may be redeemed per transaction.
  • We are unable to accept coupons for “Free” items with no purchase requirements or where the amount for the product is blank.
  • Coupons can only be used in stores and must be presented at time of purchase. Coupons cannot be redeemed for cash at a later time.
  • Coupons will not be accepted without the purchase of the item specified and are subject to the terms listed (e.g. expiration date, size, limitations, quantity, etc.).
  • Coupons cannot be redeemed for more than the purchase price of the item.
  • Only one (1) manufacturer’s coupon will be accepted per item.
  • Management has the right to refuse any coupon or otherwise limit quantities.

One thing you’ll notice is that they won’t accept a coupon in which there is a blank line for the price of an item. This means no BOGO coupons! Don’t be discouraged–I’m sure we’ll see plenty of free items! They will also not allow overage but the policy is loose enough for them to reduce the amount of the coupon down or refuse it entirely. Hopefully they’ll reduce it!

so mad I didn’t print the policy to take with me. The Cashier told me only 2 manufacture coupons per customer. i tried to argue that it was only 2 printed coupons but she wouldn’t allow it. Next time i’m taking the store policy with me!!

I work at Dollar Tree and find that us taking coupons is incredibly awesome! Just within this first week we have already had more business. Lots of brand names items come and go all the time! If you have any questions understanding the policy please feel free to ask. (@kcl-7b5a1e3a8196193526e75cadef97399f:disqus, I’m sorry you had a bad experience at the Dollar Tree by you. I’m not really sure why they were’t able to take both of your coupons at the same time.) Unfortunately the policy isn’t clearly understood by all of the stores yet, it is definitely a work in progress. Please bare with us, we are still working all of the kinks out and trying to figure out the whole thing.

  3. KP says:

FYI I just came from a dollar tree the would not adjust a 1.25 coupon down to a dollar they just refused it. I will be anxious to hear how it goes for the rest of us!

I went to Dollar Tree here in ST. LOUIS MO and they had to punch it in manually the Q . They just started here yesterday 8/29. I dont know why they just cant scan them. 2 of the DT i went had to manually put in my colgate Q which annoys me.

  5. celinte says:

I went to my local Dollar Tree & had no problem. I did not clean the self and others were looking at me as if they did not know that coupons are accepted. My total was $14.78 before coupons and after coupons my total was $3.78. The cashier that I had was very nice & told me that this was her first customer with coupons and it would take her a few and called for backup while she rung me up. I was very pleased with the customer service that I was given

Ok so this new colgate toothpaste coupon this Aug 26 2012 came out as 75 cents off on any colgate toothpaste 4.0 oz or larger and the picture has 3 of them in it ( colgate optic white, colgate total and colgate max fresh….the question is is it good for any brand toothpaste or only on those 3 that I stated above? Please someone explain to me bcos im confused what to do and afraid to go to Dollar tree and use the wrong coupon. Can I go to DT and use this coupons for any of colgate toothpaste since it said any colgate ? or only on those 3 brands.

    • Ashley says:

You can use it on ANY colgate toothpaste 4.0oz or larger… Most of the time you won’t go by the picture.. If it’s for a specific item and has that specific item pictured then I go by the picture just to see what it looks like then read the item label once I find it to make sure it’s the one I need.

My trip to Dollar Tree & I was their 1st coupon customer. Got 46 items for $25. The people that worked their were so excited abt this, & they would check on me often to see if I needed help & asked me couponing questions. They even opened a register for me when I was done!
the biggest thing i had to check on was the size of item compared to size limit on coupon. Most of Dollar Tree items are smaller than coupon would allow. Also, the Dollar Tree here had to manually punch in each coupon, as they don’t have the scanners to scan them. Makes it take longer.

  8. carla says:

Using coupons at Dollar Tree was a nightmare!I ended up leaving everything there. I had valid coupons for the items I was purchasing. After they rang up everything they said everything was done and my total was $54.They had only scanned one of each coupon and didn’t bother to tell me they were not going to accept any of the other coupons. They claimed that they can only accept one of each kind of coupon per transaction.I’m not going to Dollar Tree again.

    • vampress says:

next time make sure to have their policy handy. Also I work at one and we take one q per item not one of each diff q

  9. Megan says:

So if I’m buying 4 items, I have to do 2 transactions? It says they only accept 2 per transaction. That will make for a long line if anyone buys more then 2 things which I think we’re all planning on doing. Can someone please clarify?

    • Megan says:

or does that just mean only 2 printable internet coupons? I could use 2 printables and 6 manufacturer ones if I’m buying 8 things?

  10. CouponClasses says:

I did a complete recon trip of 2 Dollar Trees in our area. I’ve posted the match-ups here:

  11. alikat says:

as an employee at Dt i can answer some of the questions people have had about the new coupon policy. the overage coupons will NOT be accepted. we are not allowed to accept coupons if they say more than just 1.00 off of one item. if it is 1.50 off two then we can accep it as long as u are buying 2 items. We can Not accept coupons that are for a free items or BOGO.
being a couponer myself i was very happy to see that we would be accepting coupons at work so i went around my store and then became disappointed because the sizes that we carry on alot of items are not large enough for the size requirement on the coupon. so please to be nice to all the dt employees please please please check your sizes.

  12. says:

now can someone explain me this part (
They will also not allow overage but the policy is loose enough for them to reduce the amount of the coupon down or refuse it entirely. Hopefully they’ll reduce it!)

  13. says:

OMG this the Best Notice i have, this will be great…

  14. teagyn2006 says:

just an FYI, coupons cannot be used at Dollar Tree if the coupon says “free” item. It has to have an amount on it.

  15. smitty74 says:

The only problem I see with this is how employees will handle the coupon policy since it hasn’t ever been implimented before and if it will be a hassel dealing with the store to inforce there policy and employee’s taking coupons for the items.

  16. Hilary says:

I am so sick of hearing people complain about cleared shelves. Seriously. Stores order based on demand. The more that is purchased the more they order, resulting in more for us to buy! Do you not understand how it works? Why do you think RiteAid has become so un worth our time any more. They started putting so many limit restrictions, instead of just having enough supply on hand, that they have lost lots of business. I flat out told my RiteAid that they did not lose my business due to the new Walmart opening, they lost it to their policies and procedures. They make money when we shop there and use coupons. Its not coming out of their pockets. When you get Crest for free because they had it on sale for $1 and you used a manufacture coupon for $1 off, they still made $1 just as if you didnt use a coupon. Crest pays the store for your coupon plus $.08! Crest loves coupons because it is cheap advertising!!!!! All of us couponers buy up their products and then rave about their name brand on every social media and word of mouth spreads! This is simple math in my mind.
I dont clear shelves (unless of course there are only 4 on a shelf that I plan on buying), which is what usually ends up happening at small stores. People who have large number of coupons and who buy large quantities always order ahead with their stores. So when you see a cleared shelf its because the STORE has not kept up on their ordering and inventory control. Not because the store didnt limit their coupons or quantities purchaased per transaction.
I would love to encourage people to to stock up on as much as you feel you need. And, not be chastized for it. I personally stock for a family of 5. Then if I hit good deals, I get to help stock for my parents, my inlaws, and other friends and family who need help because of financial stuggles. Why should I be judged on the amount I get for FREE, or if a shelf gets cleared in the meantime? It isn’t any different than if me and 7 other people I help out, go in and buy the items. It falls back on the stores and their ability to stock appropriately.
k- off my soap box now, but I just get really heated when I open a discussion forum and thats half the comments I read. :-( Complain to the stores that they need to stock more- not to other couponers who are bringing the stores higher sales!

    • andie says:

so well first off when you say that the “STORE HAS NOT KEPT UP ON THEIR ORDERING AND INVENTORY CONTROL” You my dear are WRONG! My store is constrantly trying to order more products and the manufactures themselves wont give them to us. So it’s not the stores fault at all. Trust me a lot of stores try to work in our favors, but it doesnt happen like that, because believe it or not, coupons are hurting manfactures, you just dont know it because you dont work in retail.

  17. Bree07 says:

will you be doing match ups for us?

  18. lovedealsnothoarding says:

Oh no…I have a hard enough time finding good deals at normal stores when people hoard items. Now i really won’t be able to find the good deals i usually get at dollar tree. I hope this couponing thing doesn’t last long there. smh

  19. Hotbrazilairbrushtan says:

I’ve suggested adjusting coupons down before at other stores, and sometimes the manager doesn’t understand what that means, or how to do it…what can I say in this instance? I don’t know how exactly how either, can someone explain?

  20. Shirl says:

So Happy! Our store doesn’t start taking coupons until Sept 1! Does this mean KCL that you will be doing match-ups for us? Hope so.. That would be the icing on the cake ;)

  21. Carolynn Silva says:

I went today and the cashier gave me a print out with the rules/ policy. The one thing i didn’t see mentioned here was: “We will accept coupons subject to their tems only; such as expiration date, size and LIMITATIONS.” I have noticed quite a few Q’s now stating a limit of 1. so keep your eyes peeled for this and happy deal seeking.

  22. Gigi_gg says:

Fantastic! I’ll be shopping Dollar Tree now.

  23. Pam Petzold says:

OMG I can’t believe it so so excited yay!!!!!

  24. dalila30 says:

Our Dollar Store here don’t hardly carry anything brand name so hopefully there is something in the future now that they are accepting coupons

  25. dalila30 says:

here goes nothing left at the stores, oh my, they clear shelves at regular store imagine Dollar Tree Forget about getting anything.

  26. Anonymous says:

Does that mean there might be some KCL Dollar Tree posts in the future? That’s about the only thing that could make this any better!

  27. ed lanum says:

the dollar tree’s in chicago have been doing this for a while. some of their locations here are like little supermarkets so you can get some great deals especially on snacks, aluminum foil and ziploc bags

  28. Grace480 says:

My dollar tree has been accepting coupons for about a month and I have gotten TONS of free stuff!! Very exciting!!

  29. Keanahewitt says:

    Do they double ?

  30. Anonymous says:

ONe manufacturers coupon per item? it means i can only have one colgate and not ten? can someone explain please?

  31. Candra says:

So excited for this. My Dollar Tree always has the Cover Girl makeup I use. Free is even better. :)

  32. just me says:

troy al will be accepting YEAH!!

  33. Anonymous says:

I think this is awesome, I was always wondering why they didn’t take coupons. Although I wish there wasn’t a limit of 2 printed coupons. :)

  34. Bree07 says:

OMG…We just got a Dollor Tree store in our area. When I have gone in there I use to think…oh if they only took coupons :)

  35. Misty says:

WOOHOO I am so super stoked for this!!! I love the Dollar Tree!!!!

  36. Alynn says:

This is great news! I only wish Big Lots would follow suit!

  37. Anonymous says:

Woo! We have a dollar tree opening in the next few weeks in my city!!! 1.00 sunday papers and now this … makes me excited haha

    • Anonymous says:

My Dollar Tree put a limit of 1 newspaper per person. Due to the fact that they are sold out within 10-20 minutes after they are open. People were getting 10-20 at a time. Which is frustrating when I only wanted 2. Now I just take my little one and get my 2 :)

    • Anonymous says:

where do u live? i didnt know they sell one dollar newspapers…I live in st. louis mo

    • Ashley says:

I wish my Dollar Tree still sold them for $1.00, but out local paper got stingy and told them they needed more that $1 for the paper.. They should just sell the group of coupon inserts for $1.00 then.. It’d save on their printing :)

      • Dena says:

My Dollar Tree did the same thing….total bummer I would wake up super early sunday mornings and buy 3 or 4 newspapers. Praying I can find some good coupons as the weeks go buy to score great deals like everyone else. Stinks that I’m noticing my Dollar Tree doesn’t carry most of the products everyone is stocking up on like the gain and garnier products

  38. Mom on a BUdget says:

I’m excited about the Hefty bags. Soft Soap, Dial, and toothpaste!

  39. 28086 says:

As I always say, “Thank goodness for Dollar Tree”, especially in this economy.

    yeah im so exited.

  42. Anonymous says:

More Free Colgate toothpaste at Dollar Tree if you get the $1.00 Colgate coupon this Sunday for 4oz or larger. Lets hope they stock this size. :)

    • Anonymous says:

hmmm..2 negative votes…guess some people just don’t like getting stuff for FREE.. :)

    • happy says:

They do have it but it cheaper at wal-mart has it for .94. At my local dollar tree they only have the cinnamon flavor.

  43. Erin says:

I would like to see a limit on non-printables too though, to avoid shelf clearing!

    • Anonymous says:

I like to get party supplies from there and they encourage you to special order item if you are getting in bulk and they will ship it to the store–at no cost to us. You pay for it when you pick up the item. I hope people do this when they are getting large quantity of an item.

  44. Brittany Copeland says:

Yes, this is awesome!! Can’t wait for all the freebies. I’ve been doing really well with my stockpile. I am sure this will boost it even more!! :)

  45. Anonymous says:

Will they take a coupon that says $1 off if you buy 2? So each item will be $0.50

  46. Anonymous says:

This is going to be awesome! They have revlon nail polishes there all the time and we have a bunch of the $1 off coupons for revlon so we can get them for free! My new couponing kick it spot :)

  47. Halene says:

Finally! I asked SO MANY TIMES if they were accepting coupons… and wondered why not?

  48. Courtney says:

    WOW! So excited !!!!

  49. jaz says:

  50. blpsmimi says:

Are they going to accept internet coupons?? I’m so excited about this, great for CA.

  51. Rachel says:

LOL……My husband and I were just talking bout how much we wished for Dollar Trees to accept coupons and it happening. LOL

  52. Anonymous says:

FREE Colgate toothpaste if you end up getting the $1/1 that will be in this Sunday SS insert. :)

  53. Anonymous says:

FYI: for those that plan to get a product in large quantity, they encouraged you to order from their site and it will be shipped to your store location without shipping and handling charges –last time I check. I think this might help reduce shelf clearing. HTH.

  54. courtingcouponing says:

So happy to hear this! While most other stores are changing their coupon policy to be less inclusive of coupons, Dollar Tree is being more expansive. Definitely hopeful! This is why in economies like the one we have been in for awhile, stores like this one thrive!

  55. Jen L says:

this is great, however I foresee a lot of shelf clearing.

  56. Guest says:

KK: Here are a few items I seen so far. Hefty Slider Bags, Palmolive Dish Detergent, Colgate toothbrush, Colgate toothpaste (only 2.8 oz), Comet, Renuzit, Airwick, Softsoap Hand soap, Lady Speed Stick, Speed Stick. Rubbermaid Food Containers.

  57. Anonymous says:

The sister company of the Dollar Tree (Deal$) already takes coupons and it’s amazing. I’m a fan of free. Especially on Tuesdays when the stores get the fresh Nature’s Own Breads.

  58. nancyfava says:

:) do I need to say more! Woohoo!

  59. yes says:

Can someone please explain the first part of the coupon policy for me….”Only original and intact manufacturers’ coupons will be accepted. Retailer-specific coupons will not be accepted”
    thank you

    • Anonymous says:

You can only use manufacturer’s coupons. They can’t be missing part of the barcode or miss the expiration date. they won’t accept coupons from CVS, Walgreens, or other stores.

    • Lisa says:

It means the coupon must be the original coupon and not photocopied. It must not be torn meaning the bar code must be scannable. Also, it means that you can only use a manufacturer coupon (like the ones in Sunday newspapers) and not a store coupon like a coupon that Target or Walmart issues, Hope that helps!

  60. KK says:

How many items from brand name mnfrs are really carried there?

    • Khammany83 says:

Here are a few items I seen so far. Hefty Slider Bags, Palmolive
Dish Detergent, Colgate toothbrush, Colgate toothpaste (only 2.8 oz),
Comet, Renuzit, Airwick, Softsoap Hand soap, Lady Speed Stick, Speed
      Stick. Rubbermaid Food Containers.

    • bellelamb says:

A lot really, ziplock, all kinds of oral care, and many oothers

    • Anonymous says:

Go to their website. They will have list of what they carry. You can order in bulk and have it delivery to the store and pick it when it comes in. No shipping & handling are charged. HTH.

    • SRW says:

I have seen things like name brand oral care, food and cleaners.

    • Jlynn says:

A lot, they sell name brand candy, dish soaps, aluminum foil, zipaloc bags, sodas, ect. the problem will probably be with size requirements.

    • Christina says:

Sometimes they’ll get some really good things in. They tend to go quickly and do carry lots of name brands, not like other Dollar Stores. In past I’ve seen Clearsil Face Wash, MAM Pacifiers, Almay Makeup, Pop Up Toys, Gain Fabric Sheets, Ore Ida Fries, and more.

  61. Anonymous says:

I think i am going to like this esp with everyone else trying to make it more difficult for us to use them. and I LOVE dollar tree!!!

  62. ShoppingSamIAm says:

I love this! :) Now California can have something to look forward to!

  63. MamaSkillet says:

I’m torn on this one. One hand I think it’s AWESOME! On the other hand, our store’s employees are so lazy…not to mention, one more thing for them to HAVE to do and I think it might just
    fry their brain cells.

    • couponlee1 says:

That hilarious…and true. The employees at my dollar tree are horrible.

    • Ginny Barrett says:

I agree with you MamaSkillet, Our Dollar Tree has one employee who is rude, lazy and just plain snotty. It is really sad, too. All the others are GREAT!! But if I see him working when I walk in the store, I turn around and walk out.

  64. MelissaB says:

So I have ziploc coupons but it does not specify a size so can I use it here?

  65. snowhitedrifter says:

    OMG! Can’t wait for this!

  66. Tiffany says:

Oh my this is a dream come true :) I was in the store last week because it’s the only place I can usually grab all the chips for my husbands chip fetish that carriers them and was thinking man, If they only took coupons. That would be great! I love this!!

  67. Anonymous says:

    Love it!!!!

  68. Katie:) says:

So if i have a dollar off an item coupon its completly free there??

    • Anonymous says:

Yes but you still have to pay tax for it.

    • Anonymous says:

Yes. But you will still owe tax. HTH.

    • Anonymous says:

That’s right! As long as it’s the identical item to the coupon.

    • dmtfree2012 says:

Tried to buy 2 lady speed sticks today. (I had 2 dollar off coupons) They would only take one. And would not let me do a second transaction. On top of that the “manager” couldn’t even get off his cell phone to talk to me. So once the cashier finished my transaction, I walked up the the manager (still on the phone) held up my 2nd coupon and said “I’ll be back for my second one” !!

  69. Katie :) says:

    ahh im so exited! :D
