Walgreens Coupon Deals: Week of 9/16

Walgreens Ad

Here are the deals happening this week at Walgreens! Pricing is valid 9/16 – 9/22.

This week marks the launch of the new Walgreens Balance Rewards Loyalty Program. (Deep breaths, people!) Read about the new program by clicking here. Before denouncing Walgreens forever, give this new program a few weeks to grow on you, and we’ll see how it all works! If you haven’t yet registered for the Balance Rewards card and you would like to, you can do so here or, starting 9/16, you can do so in-store. As you will notice in the matchup that follows, several items will earn you Balance Rewards points. Click here to see how the points will match up with the number of Rewards dollars. It is advantageous to hang onto the points for awhile before cashing them out as a reward. (A $50.00 reward sounds pretty nice to me!) Based on this chart, we can assume that 1,000 Balance Rewards Points is equivalent to $1.00-$1.25, depending on the point at which you cash out your points. Click here to read the fine print about Balance Rewards.

  1. SlinnAnna says:

I have always found Walgreen’s stressful but was just starting to get use to it. While i am so happy that this new program is working for many of you i am just no longer sure that it is worth the headache. Luckily for me i have a new C.V.S opening right on the corner from my home which will be much close than Walgreen’s. Since i have only heard positive comments about C.V.S, i think i will use up the remainder of my RR and try C.V.S instead for a while : )

  2. LJF says:

I can’t print out my list. Nothing happens when I push the print button. Can someone help me???

  3. Rachel says:

The glade expressions starter kit gave me 2 $1 register rewards, so that was extra good.

  4. koupon korner says:

Well I just did my first transaction and tried to redeem some points to purchase additional items. Walgreens really is trying to keep you from rolling your rewards and using them to buy additional items. I am not happy with the transaction that I did this morning and I will probably eventually quit shopping at Walgreens. See below:
Ok, just wanted to give you a heads up in case you don’t know this yet. Had a bad experience with Walgreens this morning regarding their new Bonus Points system.
Just an fyi to you and to anyone else doing these, beware.
First, when you are buying items that give you bonus points, make sure before you leave the store that the bonus points you were supposed to receive are printed on the bottom of your receipt. If not, they have a special card they can add the correct bonus points onto your card for you manually.
Second…Bonus points can only be used in increments of $5. Therefore if you have 10,000 points ($10) and your checking out and your transaction shows you owe $8.36, you can only use $5 of your points, you will have to pay the $3.36 with either cash or register rewards, but remember if you are using RR you have to use them first before your final total or the system will not take them once they do a final payment.
Thirdly…Bonus points will not be issued on items you are purchasing if you redeem bonus points from your account. In other words, I had purchase some items and it had brought my points up to 18,000 points. I was buying additional items at another Walgreens (Mitchum Deodorant and the I D Gum). I bought 5 deodorant and 4 gums. After coupons my balance was $8.36, so I decided to redeem $5 of my points towards this transaction. Once I paid the remaining $3.36 and my receipt printed off, NO BONUS POINTS for this entire transaction. I lost 12,000 points (5 deodorant x 2000 points = 10,000 plus gum 2,000 points 2 gum x 1000) just because I wanted to redeem $5 of my bonus points. Needless to say, I was not happy. So, just an fyi to your couponers if you want to redeem your points, don’t use them on items that have bonus points. Use them on other items in the store or use them on items that still give Register Rewards. This makes me not want to shop at Walgreens any longer. They penalize you for trying to use your Bonus Points by not giving you the Bonus Points on other items that you are purchasing in additional transactions..Totally ridiculous. Now I know why I love CVS.

Yesterday 9/18 the glade expressions was printing two $1 rr so for me they were money makers :)

  6. Heather says:

I’m new to couponing at Walgreen’s, SO I’m just a bit confused.

I would like to purchase the following items:

    (2) Glade plug-in’s oil warmers [Do you still get the sale price, or must you purchase 3?] –>I have 2 printable $2 off Manufacturer Coupons
    + will earn RR
    (1) Blistex –>Will earn RR
    (2) Huggies –>I have 2 manufacturer Coupons +
    2 Walgreen’s coupons
    (4) Gain Laundry –> I have 2 manufacturer coupons
    (1) Snuggle –>I have 1 manufacturer coupon
    (4) Aussie –> I have 2 manufacturer coupon + will earn RR

So, I will earn RR on the Blistex, Glade, & Aussie. So should I purchase these items first, then use the RR on the next transaction of Gain, Snuggle, & Huggies. But if I have more coupons than items, I should get a few “filler items” -candy bars maybe?

On top of this I must sign up for the new Loyalty card which earns points, am I correct?

    Thank you for the help!!

    • Heather says:

On top of this, what if I were to add in the Glade “money maker” Spray ??

    • Anonymous says:

Click on the “101″ tab at the top of our Walgreens page . . . It will explain how to use Register Rewards. You should sign up for the Balance Rewards card, yes! :)

  7. Laura says:

I made qualifying purchases Sunday for which I received Balance Reward Points. I went back Monday and redeemed these points on more qualifying items which should have earned more Balance Rewards Points, but the BR pts EARNED was 0 (on both transactions)! When I called corporate, they said it is part of their Terms and Conditions that you CANNOT EARN Balance Rewards pts on any transaction in which you REDEEM Balance Reward pts! In otherwords, these pts are NOT ROLLING! BOO HOO! Bad for couponing.

    • Ruth says:

You should to redeem the points on purchases that earn Register Rewards which this week are the Gillette razors, Aussie/Clairol, Biore, etc. I have been doing this for three days now and the program is absolutely awesome. The ID gum is on sale 2 for $2.00, there was a BOGO free coupon in this week’s paper and there is also tear pads all over the place for this gum. When you buy 2, you earn 1500 points so this is a good way to accumulate points.

  8. Callie says:

I took the Facebook Huggies Slip-On challenge [it took 5 days of checking in] & got $2 coupons for Huggies Slip-On diapers. In the September Extra Savings coupon book, there’s a Walgreen’s coupon for $2 off. You can combine these with the sale price of $8.99 & they’re $5! I bought 5 & now have 5,000 points.

  9. MissLeeLee says:

Does anyone know how they would use the card if you set it up online? I did that today and mentioned and showed the app card on my phone and the cashier had no idea. Luckily I didn’t have any items that had balance rewards but I would like to know for future reference. Thanks!

    • MrsMeyer28 says:

If you let them know in store that you set it up online, they’ll have you enter your phone number and attach a card to it there :] I had to do this today myself

      • MissLeeLee says:

Thanks! I went there today and I had my “card” on my phone under the walgreens app, and they lady actually scanned it! I will go in there and let them know that I set it up online as well, an employee that came into my work the other day said that you can also look it up by phone number, so if you forget your card at home you can look it up by that as well. I am super excited to try this program out!!

  10. sara says:

BTW, for those of you getting the Huggies deal, there is a $2 off coupon in the september coupon book as well.

  11. LilyTulsa says:

    Does anyone have this problem.
Buy 2 id gum 2/$2 get 1000 points
Use (2) $1/1 single pack id gum
So i only pay $0.17 tax
Recipt on the bottom say the 1000
    Points earn.
I made this transaction 9 times, but only on 2 got points.
All other 7 recipt says OFFLINE
I ask cashier, she said it might me a register problem but she show me the monitor and it said.. OFFLINE, points awarded or add something like that. So she said i was still geting the points.
This was yesturday but i ckecked my phone today and it has only the 2,000 points from the first 2 transactions.

Is any one else having this problem?
    Limit to points?
Or what should i do to get the other 7,000 points?
    Thank you

    • LilyTulsa says:

I just call the 1800 number. They did ask me if i did this in diferent transactions [so im thinking we do have to do it in separate transactions to earn points] anyway, i said yes, and just gave her my rfn# for each tran. She ask supervisor, and award my points.
Still dont know why this happen, hope it gets fix :)

    • Erica H. says:

it sounds as though the points went offline when you were making your purchase and the cashier wasn’t aware of it, alot of stores have been having the points go out with such high numbers of people signing up, because i brought 6 packs in on transaction and received 1000 point per 2 packs so 3000 points total.

      • LilyTulsa says:

Oh, so maybe card wasnt scan correctly or on time? Like my account logout evendo the barcode was there it wasnt scaning right, it is possible because it was from my phone.

    • melinda sears says:

We were told that if it goes offline you still will get your points. Unfortunately it can take up to 2 days to show.

  12. Ruth says:

Wow, there seems to be so much confusion about the balance rewards. The confusion was caused by rumors and misinformation. I’m a seasoned couponer who has been doing this for 7 years now and I did about 15 transactions yesterday. I had no issues. This new program is awesome and great for couponers. I absolutely love it. If they keep on offering Register Rewards and Balance Points, Walgreens will again be the best place for couponers.
The program is very simple and easy to manage since the points show up on your receipt right away. Since yesterday, I have earned about 60000 so I’m super excited about this program.

    1. The points will add up for each item you purchase, ie: I purchased 7 Mitchum deodorant in one transaction, I used 7 coupons and received 7,000 points. The coupons do not affect how many points you will receive in one transaction. This is better than the register rewards because you don’t have to do multiple transactions to earn all your points.

    2. Since you will not earn points in the transaction that you redeemed your points, redeem your points in a transaction that will earn you register rewards. ie: I redeemed my points in a transaction where I bought 2 Gillette razors, Glade Expressions and the Aussie/Clairol Shampoo/Conditioners.

    3. Get into the habit of scanning your card at the beginning of the transaction. Since this was new to me, I forgot to scan my card twice so the manager had to redo the transaction.

  13. megan from wyoming says:

Not sure if anyone else has had this same problem or not, and what was done about it. I went in to buy 4 met rx bars and I had 2- $2 off the purchase of 2 bars coupons that I used. I also used 2 register reward coupons and the total dollars of my transaction would have still been over zero. However, they would not let me use the register rewards saying that although I only had 2 product manufacturer coupons, since you had to by 2 of the items for each one to work (4 items total), then the coupon counted for 4 coupons. According to the coupon policy listed online, it just states that you can’t have more coupons than items in your basket. Am I missing something here with this common knowledge how they count number of coupons? Seems to me that 4 items plus 4 coupons should be within the limits??

    • Erica H. says:

the 2 off of 2 cpn is for 2 items its like taking them and splitting them apart into two $1.00 off cpn and the RR are also considered man. cpn you must have the sam number of items as cpn so you would need filler itemes to push the RR through

  14. MissLeeLee says:

Again, I am new to this.. but we are allowed to use other store’s coupons at walgreens? For example Target coupons? Thanks.

  15. MissLeeLee says:

I am new to the whole coupons. I was wondering if you need 3″ ($1/1 Glade Plugins) to receive these items for $0.33 each when you buy three? Thanks!

    • Anonymous says:

You do need three coupons to get the $0.33 price. If you only have two, though, it’s still a good deal!

  16. ernest.little@comcast.net says:

Bought 2 Aussie shampoo (got $2RR) and 1 glade starter kit. When I got home noticed my RR had not printed for the glade. What is the best way to try to get my RR? Thanks

    • Anonymous says:

You can contact Walgreens’ Customer Service and have your receipt handy. They may be able to help you out.

  17. verenice gonzalez says:

today in my transactions to gain RR I didn’t use a filler item even i used RR and coupon to pay without problems.
And also somebody tried to pay with points today?

  18. Jlynn says:

I went to Walgreens, and it printed out and extra $1 RR for the Glade mist and I got 10,000 points, read below it was from the deodorant, hope that stays! I want to go back and get more! :)

  19. AB64 says:

I see that we still have RR’s along with the BR’s. Our WG’s cashier told me that WG’s will be getting rid of the RR’s in time.

  20. JEEZ everyone way to go to Walgreens today and bog down my computers! The Balance Rewards were down multiple times today, I spent the day trying to get people registered (I work in the pharmacy and you get 500 points per prescription or immunization) and since so many people signed up and were using them it crashed so many times! Today was not a good day to try to earn points!

  21. Poolside1 says:

I am having trouble printing out “MY LIST”, can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong? It just does not print.

    • Anonymous says:

I have tried several times over the last few weeks to print the list. It hasn’t worked. I assumed they were still working the bugs out of the system.

    • Anonymous says:

just tried here as well, it allowed me to get to a print screen but printed blank. Love the idea, cant wait till I can use it

  22. Anonymous says:

Glade is printing 2 $1 rewards for each purchase so it’s a moneymaker!

  23. Shemom says:

    You are simply the best!

  24. Anonymous says:

I just got back from Wags and it went better than I planned. The Glade printed an extra $2 in RR (so $3 total) and the Mitchem’s gave me an extra 2,000 BR (4,000 total) points so after all was said and done I made some money at Walgreens. Im already loving the new BR program!

    • Anonymous says:

Hooray! That is good news on all accounts!

    • koupon korner says:

try and redeem those points in another transaction buying the Mitchum or any other item with Bonus Points, you won’t be happy.

      • Anonymous says:

I’m sorry that your experience at Walgreens didn’t go so well, but
please don’t rain on other peoples’ parades. KCL posted everything you just did WEEKS ago and said very clearly that you CANNOT use points on a transaction that earns points and still earn points. You should definitely read the post. Many of us were prepared for this and are VERY pleased with the new program because of it. While it is unfortunate that points don’t roll, you can roll your RRs and earn points and vice versa. I did this yesterday and it ended up being a MM in rewards points. I love that the points don’t expire and you don’t need fillers to use them. I agree that redeeming points in $5 increments can be a bit troublesome when trying to lower your OOP, but it’s just going to require some planning – that’s something us couponers are good at.

        • koupon korner says:

I do not sit on here 24 hours a day and read every post. I have other more important things to do in my life. So excuse me if I didn’t see that post about the bonus points. I was basically trying to be informative. So move on to the next post if you don’t like what I am saying. I just love how some of you just sit on here day in and day out and have nothing but critical things to say about someone else’s post. SERIOUSLY, get a life.

      • Anonymous says:

I used BR points to purchase RR items and RR to purchase BR items. So Im pretty happy

  25. Kidada says:

Points are actually credited to your account right away, not in 3-5 days as listed. I bought items, pulled up my walgreens app on my phone, and the points were already showing.

    • Anonymous says:

      That is convenient!

    • asw0627 says:

Mine didn’t credit immediately. I pulled up the app on my phone…no points. Then I pulled the site up a couple hours later on my computer….still no points or transaction history. :-(

      • kidada says:

Mine credited immediately, although when I tried to use them, the cashier didn’t know hoew to actually use he points for redemption. I figured i’d wait until next week when the kinks were worked out.

        • Ruth says:

I also had to teach the cashier how to redeem the points also.
—They have to press the payment key on their screen and one of the options will be Redeem Points, after they press it, you will have the option on the small keypad to chose how you want to redeem the points.
—-Be very careful when making a choice because they do offer you the option to pay for the full balance of your transaction but it costs you more points. I usually just chose to redeem in whole numbers, $5.00 (5000 points, $10.00 (10000 points) and pay for the rest.
—-When redeeming your points you will have to enter your zip code and confirm the redemption

      • Ami <3 says:

Mine showed up right away at the bottom of my receipt.

  26. sawyersmom24 says:

Good news on the Glade Expressions starter kit deal! 2/$1 RR printed for one kit. This actually happened the last time I bought these. This makes it a $1.01 Money maker which is better than the deal is listed.

  27. Anonymous says:

I JUST got off the phone with the Balance rewards department of Walgreens and they said that as long as the register reward says “manufacturer coupon” it will still produce points. So you can use roll the balnce points back and forth with the register rewards!!! :D

  28. B4byblu3 says:

Went on my routine Walgreens midnight run…. I used all the coupons I wanted and got the correct amount of points… 17,500. For the point items that do not specify an amount in participating products to reach, you can get as many as you wish in same transaction. If you are going for say the $15 is Revlon items, it’s suggested to do those separately. You CAN’T redeem and earn points at the same time. So, I’ll probably use my RRs to roll and my points when the week’s sales suck or for necessities not tied to points.

  29. Mel says:

It looks like I found the answer to my question on the Balance Rewards, but I wanted to share in case anyone else had the same. It appears that if you choose to save your points to redeem for a higher reward, they will debit your purchase balance from your card. So, if you have a $50 reward, you don’t need to buy $50 worth of stuff in order to redeem, you can spread out your purchases and redeem in portions. If anyone can verify, that would be great, but the program rules seem to indicate this.

  30. did not do seperate transactions for the gum. Bought 4 in one transaction and still got 2000 points

    • sully says:

im pretty sure since is new they will fix that in the coming days, cause its too good to be true, its just awesome how people are getting all this points in just one transaction

  31. Oh forgot to mentions that cleareance items count. I bought 2 Revlon foundations that was on cleareance for $8 and 1 concealer for $7 and I still got the 3000 points.

  32. Went shopping today since I’m an employee and already had my card to test Balance Rewards. I found that you get the points even if you use a coupon to lower the price. So if you did the Revlon deal where you by $15 and get 3000 point you will get the points even if you use the $5 manufacture coupon to lower the price. If you but two of an item that give you points you will get the points for both items in once transaction. I bought 4 of the ID gum and got 2000 points. Happen to by the Nyquil 24 ct medicine on Saturday so I not only got the $2 Register Reward when you by 2/$13 and also got the 2000 points for next week deal. I was able to get 12000 points in one shopping and only spent $19.

    hope this helps.

  33. Omaha Coupon Mamma says:

So I just got more information about the Balance Rewards program.

The points expire 3 years after they are earned as long as you shop there every 6 months.

If your points are used in a transaction to help pay for that transaction no points can be earned for that particular transaction. (Great time to get register reward earning items though.)

If you buy something that earns you points and then you return that item your points will be removed from your account.

  34. Guest says:

At the Walgreens where I work, I bought 3 cases of water for $1.99 today in the same transaction for 500 pts. each and it gave me all 1500 pts. in the same transaction…so I do not believe you have to do separate transactions to get the points.

  35. Anonymous says:

    Thank you for sharing this!

  36. fudge says:

Per chat again on a regular purchase you will get a point after all coupons are tendered, but on their promotional points ( buy X get 3000 points) it will not affect it even you use coupons or register rewards.

  37. Anonymous says:

Why do some of these say you’ll get RR and some say points? Are they doing both? I thought it was just the points now. This whole change is quite confusing to me, lol.

    • Anonymous says:

Yes it is confusing. They are still doing RR for the time being along with the points. This new system will take some getting used to. I heard they will phase out the RR, but not sure when.

    • Anonymous says:

Some items generate Register Rewards still; others generate Points. They are doing both at this time. It is a bit confusing!

  38. Satin says:

I do not want to cause confusion or a stir but I think this is worth to note so you can brace yourself and understand that we may be trying this point thing at our own risk….

Per chat I was told they go by the price after coupons AND REGISTER REWARDS that determines if you get your points or not. However on balance rewards customer service on the phone I was told that they go by the price before manufacture coupon and the price AFTER WALGREENS COUPONS AND REGISTER REWARDS. Either way we might want to brace ourselves and not expect much points if we use coupons and register rewards! I mean I usually pay for my purchases with register rewards so that will super suck! Like if do the mitchum deorderant or stride gum deal I may not get any points if I pay with my register reward if what these people say are true . So if you are doing scenarios focusing on the points try at your own risk especially if you plan to use coupons and rewards to pay. Me personally I am going to focus on good deals and register reward deals at Wags. If I just so happen to accumulate points while doing that along the way then great. Either way I am going to stick to what I know!

    • Anonymous says:

Thanks. I’m sure in the next couple of weeks we’ll get a lot of these detailed questions answered. I hope so anyway!

    • Omaha Coupon Mamma says:

You will not earn points on normal purchases. Just on the things in the ad or online that states you earn points.

    • you will get points even if you use coupons

    • Ruth says:

No, coupon do not affect your balance points just like they don’t affect Register Rewards. Sometimes customer service and managers have no idea what they are telling customers. The other day a manager told me that if I use coupons for the item producing the register reward, I won’t get a register rewards. I tried to explain to him that you can’t use the same register reward that you will receive for that item, he sarcastically told me that since he is the manager he was 100% sure of his statement. So I did another transaction just to prove to him that he was wrong.

    • koupon korner says:

well i had accumulated 18,000 points buying water, gum, etc. I went this morning to buy the Mitchum Deod and some more of the gum. I used coupons but the thing i had an issue with was that I wanted to redeem some of my points to use towards this purchase, it allowed me to do so but then did not give me any points on my transaction that I was doing. So basically anything you buy that has points associated with it, once you go and try and redeem those points just make sure that anything in your shopping trip for that transaction does not have bonus points, because you won’t get them. I lost out on 12,000 bonus points (5 Mitchum and 2 Gum) because I redeemed $5 of my bonus points this morning…totally ridiculous. So I had them cancel the transaction and I redid it without paying with the Bonus Points and they printed on the bottom of my receipt. I plan on either quit shopping at Walgreens all together or just focus on the RR and not even mess with the bonus points system…it basically is set up to track your purchases with the bonus points so you can’t turn around and buy items again and get additional bonus points when you try and redeem points from previous purchases.

  39. fudge says:

Hi KCL, I contacted Walgreens thru chat and verify how Balance Rewards points work. To make it short you can earn as many promotion points of the as long as they are separate transaction. Ex. $12.00 purchase get 3000 points, come back later and do the same transaction and you will earn 3000 points again and so on… Awesome..

  40. fudge says:

Are Balance Rewards Points limited to one? Like $12.00 purchase get 3,000 points if you buy $22.00 and so on the points will double too?

    • Anonymous says:

It sounds like they work like Register Rewards. You can only earn the points once per offer per transaction.

  41. sawyersmom24 says:

Thank you for keeping the Balance rewards points separate from the final cost of the item!! Other blogs I have read have combined them making it much more difficult to figure out the actual price I am paying. I like to see what I earn in points but I am considering it a bonus. You rock KCL!!!

  42. Anonymous says:

If I buy 4 packs of stride gum in one transaction and use a 2.00 rr at check out will I get 2,000 balance reward points or do they work like rr where only the first one would print?

    • Anonymous says:

I believe they work like Register Rewards. Ask your cashier tomorrow! We’re all still trying to figure this out!

      • Sandy says:

It’s my understanding that you only get sale prices if you use the balance rewards card. So, I was wondering if this will limit the amount of register reward deals you can purchase. They can now track how many register reward deals you try to purchase even if you do separate transactions. Previously, if you did separate transactions you could take advantage of as many register reward deals as you wanted.

        • sully says:

i dont think they will have a limit but you will have to purchase them in different transactions. Some are reporting they did not need to split transaction to get the points but i believe walgreens will fix that in the coming days. Cause i call customer service and they say as long as i do separate transactions i will keep getting the rr or points. One thing that is different from rr’s do its that if you buy items that produce points with the points you have you wont get credited for them. You can not earn and spend points in the same transaction

    • Anonymous says:

Only the first one will print. Still have to split up transactions. Wish you could combine them like other stores.

    • don’t need to split. You can buy them in one transaction. Went today to test. Bought 4 gums, 3 revlon makeup, & 2 covergirl lipstick; got 9000 points and only spent $9.12
