I have a weakness for retro things (note the reference to Back to the Future in the title). Maybe I’m a bit of a romantic, too, because I love books. Not a digital epub, mobi, or PDF book, but honest-to-goodness, physical books, with pages that you turn. You know, the ones you can wrap as a gift. The ones you don’t have to power down during the first and last twenty minutes of a flight. The ones you can take to the beach or the park and not worry if they fall in the sand or the dirt. The ones you can pass along to friends after you’ve finished reading them.
So if you’re a retro-chic like me, you’ll be thrilled to discover that Barnes & Noble is having a “Great Reads” sale, with over 200 books for the bargain price of $2.99 each. Many of these are recent hardcover bestsellers which normally retail for $25 and up–an 88% savings! And, ironically, that’s about 1/3 the price of the digital editions.
Of course, everyone has his or her own tastes in books, but here are several finds that I will be adding to my cart:
- Smokin’ Seventeen by Janet Evanovich
- Full Dark, No Stars, by Steven King
- I’ll Mature When I’m Dead: Dave Barry’s Amazing Tales of Adulthood
As a disclaimer, the website notes that these “bargain books” may contain a mark identifying it as publisher’s overstock (typically a small black mark on the edges of the pages or a small hole punched in the corner). However, they are brand new and undamaged.
