Here are the deals happening this week at Safeway. Prices are valid 10/17 – 10/23 unless otherwise stated.

This week there are lots of great Safeway in-ad coupons to use. There is also a great buy two get one free sale happening. Be sure to add the $5.00 Friday items to your Safeway Club Card as well; when you do, you’ll pay the sale price throughout the weekend.

This week, in some areas there is a doubler in the ad that allows you to double up to 4 coupons! The face value of the coupon before doubling must be $0.50 or less. This is limited to one doubler per transaction per household per week. That means you can only double 4 coupons during the entire sales week. (The doubler is a coupon found on the front page of the ad. This is a regional coupon and will not be available in all areas.)

KCL: Wanted to share (in case you wanted to update your post) a coupon from SS $1.00/2 Barilla Pasta (for white fiber, wheat or veggie) came in on 10/21 that I used for the pasta deal; getting the pasta for 38 cents a box.

I had a Personalized Deal on my Just4U for a completely FREE bottle of Trop50 with Tea! I was able to redeem it in store without any problem. Nicest freebie I’ve gotten at Safeway in quite a while!

I work for Safeway and I noticed today that when the vendors came in to set up their big 24 pack Pepsi/Dr. Pepper display for $5 Friday they put $1/1 coupons on them all. Keep an eye out for these… and if you live in an area that doubles you could get them for $3.50 each or better!

The Safeway in our area has decided that they will no longer accept computer printed coupons..I was a long time Safeway shopper until they started refusing my coupons :( Now I ONLY shop there to get the stock up deals with clipped coupons! I also noticed that every cashier is different, the veteran cashiers are way more lacks on keying in coupons where as the newbies challenge each and every coupon brought to the register.

I am sorry to hear that! The cashiers can make a difference at many of the grocery stores. If possible I try to get ones that I know are good at my regular store. I know that’s not always possible though. Safeway can have some really good stock up items!

Hi! looking for someone very familiar with the doubling process at Safeway for those stores that do it regularly. i have a cashier at safeway that doesn’t like me very much (i don’t know why! i’m a very nice couponer!) and i noticed that none of my honey nut cheerios or lucky charms coupons (at 60 cents and 50 cents each) were doubled. They did not say “do not double” on them. Do you know if the cashier has to enter something, or press and “accept” button in order for the coupon to double? or is it completely cash register automatic with no cashier intervention? i just don’t know if the computer did not double them, or if he somehow said no to the doubling requirement. Any Safeway cashiers or doubling experts out there that can shed light on this? Thanks!

If you are sure that your store should double, it should automatically come off. I would take it to the customer service counter. Their policy used to be (I think it still is) that if something rings up wrong, you get one of that item free. I love Safeway, but there have been plenty of times that I have checked my receipt and something(s) has not rung up correctly. Sorry you have a grumpy cashier. Is there only one?! I have figured out which ones at my store are friendly to couponers. Good luck!

I wish my Safeway had the policy of getting the item free if it is wrung up wrong. I would be getting lots of things free at Safeway. Every time I shop there I am over charged. I do get my money back. I just have to wait in line for 5-8 min minutes until I can be helped.
Very true about finding the right cashier. Where I live coupons are always doubled up to .99. Safeway prices with the just for u coupons are the prices the others stores charge. At those stores, I use my coupons that Safeway won’t let me use.

        • Anonymous says:

You are very smart to always check your receipt. The right cashier can help too. Safeway does have some good stock up items and occasional free items in the Just For U program, which can be great to find!

Same here! EVERY single time I shop at Safeway, usually once a week, I am overcharged! It’s been anywhere from a couple dollars to over $25 per transaction – and it’s usually over $5. Now, I always ask to double check before I pay and, sure enough, there are problems to be fixed. It really annoys the people behind me (and I’m rarely using coupons there anymore with the Just-4-You instead), but I do it anyway because it’s not right for me to have to overpay. Either Safeway is deliberately overcharging their customers or they are VERY careless about making sure items go into the system correctly. If they didn’t have good sale prices I definitely wouldn’t go there anymore because even with the sale prices I am the one having to work to make sure I get them.

Here in the DC-area you could be waiting at customer service for over 20 minutes. This past week I had to do so just to get the correct cost of the pasta – ended up getting $10 back just because of the inaccurate systems.

Some cashiers will not double internet coupons but will original coupons. I do know that I have to hand them the doubler and they manually put it in. I think every safeway is a little different I live close to 4 and they all seem to have different coupon rules. LOL

    • Gabrielle says:

Hi there :) I’m the night PIC at my Safeway store in Oregon. Not sure where you live, but we all have pretty much the same equipment so hopefully this info will help. We have double coupons (up to 4 coupons can be doubled up to 50 cents each) in Oregon. The double coupon doesn’t have a scan bar or anything and we don’t have any keys on the keyboard that say “double” – so the cashier has to manually double the coupons. I have a suggestion for you if you want to be SURE the cashier is applying the double coupon: After you hand your manufacturers coupons to the cashier and he/she scans them, THEN hand them the doubler. Watch to see them key it in AND look at the monitor to see the discount come off. If you have ANY problems with your cashier NOT doubling coupons that you believe SHOULD be then always feel free to ask the cashier to call for manager assistance. Oh, and next time you’re in the store you should definitely look for a manager (they’re usually the ones in the white shirts – or pink/blue when we’re fundraising LOL) and let them know about the attitude of that particular cashier. He or she DEFINITELY needs a little retraining! Hope this helps :)

Thank you for the info Gabrielle! That is a great help!

Thank you for the info!!! I’m in the DC metro area and they double all coupons here up to 99 cents (so a good 75 coupon is FABulous!) About this cashier–i avoid him almost all the time, even if i have to stand in a very long line elsewhere. Unfortunately there was only one regular line open and one express and you should have seen me when i realized he was the only cashier–totally deflated. a few years ago i bought reusable produce bags–very thin and see through–the kind you can keep the produce in and have them weigh it instead of the plastic bags. Every time, he empties out the entire bag, weighs and rings and moves the stuff to the bagging area (without rebagging). I told him it was ok with me to keep the produce in the bag (maybe it would cost another penny for the additional tare weight), but no, he says he won’t do that.. And, if i buy say, 10 limes, he picks up each lime, twirls it until he finds the sticker, and enters it manually. every. darn. lime. As if he thinks i’ll smuggle an organic lime in there. Same with lemons, avocados, etc. All other cashiers look at one, count the quantity and ring it up once. Then, the bagging! i hand him my canvas reusable bags and he sets them aside. Then he rings up my items and sets everything on the bagging area, except all the cashiers at safeway bag as they go and there is rarely a separate bagging person. What am i to do (since i’m standing there doing nothing while he rings this way), but to reach over the counter and start bagging it myself. Then he looks at me with the fakest smile and says “oh, thank you so much for helping me” AAAAAAaaaa. And then the coupon problems. last week with the no doubling, but before that with “one coupon of the same kind only”, “we can’t take internet coupons”–those i spoke with a manager about and got fixed a long time ago. He is so ridiculous! i’m actually laughing as i write this. It’s like he toying with me. Acting just this side of normal so i would feel silly talking to the manager. Anyway, i just felt like sharing with probably the only people i know that would listen. :) I will talk to the manager about the doubling thing though. It burned me when i figured it out at home. Thanks!

The Glade candles are actually $0.50 each when you buy 6. Thanks!!

    • Nancy says:

did the $3 take off twice since you bought 6 in one transaction?

    • Anonymous says:

I was told I can get three or more and still get the discount applied to the candles without buying six. They said if I would like to purchase four the discount will still work. However, be sure this is the case with your Safeway of course before you get them to be safe! Thank you for noticing that!
