Shopping at Walgreens can be tricky, especially with the new Walgreens Balance Rewards Program. One of the best ways to minimize your out-of-pocket expense is to roll Register Rewards transactions with Balance Rewards transactions. Keep in mind, you cannot earn Balance Rewards Points in a transaction in which you are redeeming Balance Rewards Points. However, you can earn Points when you redeem Register Rewards, and you can earn Register Rewards when you redeem Balance Rewards Points!

This post shows you how to earn and redeem Balance Rewards Points and Register Rewards given this week’s sales. Be sure to ask your store how many transactions they will allow; many stores allow three.

From now until 12/15, Walgreens is offering bonus Balance Rewards Points:

  • Receive 1,000 Balance Rewards Points when you spend $25.00
  • Receive 5,000 Balance Rewards Points when you spend $50.00
  • Receive 10,000 Balance Rewards Points when you spend $75.00

You must reach the spending requirement after sale prices and Walgreens coupons are considered but before manufacturer coupons are deducted.

TRANSACTION #1 (Earn Register Rewards)

If you already have Register Rewards or Balance Rewards Points, you can use those to pay for the first transaction for a lower out-of-pocket expense! Remember that you may need to add filler items. You must have as many (or more) products in your transaction as you have manufacturer coupons and Register Rewards used as payment.

  1. joize says:

for the simple cleansing wipes deal-it only says BOGO 50% and nothing about earning 3000points-Is this regional?

  2. CourtneyLake says:

So once you accumulate 5000 points, do you have to redeem the $5 Balance Reward in one transaction, or can you use it over multiple transactions?

  3. jennienjamika says:

I tried purchasing the good clips in separate transactions but did not receive the RR’s! :( Do you have to purchase a dif color clip each time? I had to return them.

    • Anonymous says:

The color shouldn’t matter. You won’t receive another identical Register Reward if you used the same Register Reward from a previous transaction to pay for the later transaction.

  4. Paula says:

So you can only redeem a max of 40,000 points… is that per transaction?? Can you accumulate over 40,000 points with qualifying purchases? Just wondering, thanks!

    • Dianne says:

Yes, you can redeem a maximum of 40,000 points which equals $50 per transaction but you can accumulate unlimited points I have 80,000 points accumulated since the Black Friday RR deals and rolling back and forth between RRs and points items.

  5. Tammy says:

    Hello. Do reward points expire?

    • Anonymous says:

They don’t expire for 3 years as long as you shop at Walgreens at least once every six months.

  6. Katie says:

I’m trying to figure out the amount of Register Rewards you are allowed to earn per item. I saw that you had the Goodie Clips on here twice, but when I looked at the tag in the store it said 1 Register Reward per Offer?

    • Is354 says:

The limit on the Register Rewards is per transaction, not per person like at CVS or Rite Aid. That means that if you bought 2 Goody clips in one transaction, you would only receive 1 RR since the limit is one. If, however, you bought each one in a separate transaction, you would receive both because you didn’t go over the limit per transaction. Although this can seem annoying, it’s actually really awesome because even though you have to separate your transactions you can do it as many times as you want throughout the sale week and still continue to earn RRs! Hope that helps!

That means that you can only earn one Register Reward per offer per transaction. In the above scenarios, you do purchase two Goody clips, but because they are in separate transactions, you’ll receive both Register Rewards.

They have a sale on iTunes cards…. Buy $50 iTunes card and get a $10 Walgreens card. I was going to get 2 $50 cards. Would I get gift cards plus the 10,000 points for spending $75?

    • Anonymous says:

Hmmm, that’s a tricky one. I don’t believe you can earn or redeem Points on a purchase of gift cards, but you may need to ask your store. I couldn’t find anything about it in the Balance Rewards terms and conditions.
