Walgreens: How to Roll Balance Rewards Points

Shopping at Walgreens can be tricky, especially with the new Walgreens Balance Rewards Program. One of the best ways to minimize your out-of-pocket expense is to roll Register Rewards transactions with Balance Rewards transactions. Keep in mind, you cannot earn Balance Rewards Points in a transaction in which you are redeeming Balance Rewards Points. However, you can earn Points when you redeem Register Rewards, and you can earn Register Rewards when you redeem Balance Rewards Points!

This post shows you how to earn and redeem Balance Rewards Points and Register Rewards given this week’s sales. Be sure to ask your store how many transactions they will allow; many stores allow three.

On Tuesday, January 1st, you will earn an additional 2,000 Balance Rewards Points when you spend $20.00 in one transaction. The $20.00 must be met before manufacturer coupons but after Walgreens store coupons.

TRANSACTION #1 (Earn Register Rewards)

If you already have Register Rewards or Balance Rewards Points, you can use those to pay for the first transaction for a lower out-of-pocket expense. Remember that you may need to add filler items. You must have as many (or more) products in your transaction as you have manufacturer coupons and Register Rewards used as payment.

I am having trouble getting this question answered, please help!! If, example, colgate twin pack of toothbrushes are $1.99 and WYB 2, get 3000 BR points, is there a limit per transaction of how many “sets” I can buy and keep earning BR points?

When I bought the fit smart there was two with peelies on them for $10.00 off so it made them free plus received a ten dollar rewards. I had fun today rolling between that and the prenatal vitamans with 4.00 coupon and picked up wrapping paper for 75%off to fill in the gap of the 4.00 coupon. So in two of my transactions for fit smart cost me .70 cents plus 10.00 reward. Next two transactions i bought two prenatal vitamins plus eight rolls of hallmark wrapping paper, two disney christmas necklace with lip balm rings and energy shot for 8.44 plus 10.00 and 3.00 rewards. I love days like this. My favorite transaction at walgreens today was when I bought the hallmark jingle all the way for 4.97 plus fitsmart and the energy shot total 8.56 with 10.00 and 3.00 reward. My last transaction i bought was what I originally went there for my 3 starbucks coffee, two colgate optic white toothpaste and used 1.50 coupons 10.00 reward and two 3.00 rewards bought two fillers for a total of 4.01. total saving today was 140.00 and paid 20.00 and did five transactions plus still have two 10.00 rewards and earned 5500 points, Walgreens is not my favorite store but it does really pay off at times.

Do all Walgreens still do RR? I don’t shop much at Walgreens and was under the impression that RR was replaced with BR.

    Still don’t get it :(

  9. Yeah… I’m getting to the point where I don’t even bother with Walgreens anymore. Much prefer Rite Aid.

Really? I really enjoy Walgreens. I use to only shop at Kroger (we only have Walmart, Walgreens and Kroger around us), but I really enjoy these RR’s and balance points!

      • I love the RR’s… but they are becoming fewer & fewer, it seems. I don’t like having to build up points so high in order to see any savings. That can be a lot of money oop up front. I much prefer getting the Rite Aid +ups and then being able to use them the next day– and being able to use +ups while also earning them.

I’m so glad to hear that!

    • I agree with you, walgreens gives me a headache, trying to figure out the best deals with their point system…
