I am so thrilled to see that Harris Teeter has been added to the Krazy Coupon Lady shopping list! Harris Teeter is one of the best grocery stores for using coupons and taking advantage of great deals.
Prior to couponing, Harris Teeter was not a store on my list. I had the impression that it was for the A-list crowd due to its location in a particular neighborhood. But when I started couponing, I thought I would check them out! I’m so glad I did. Now I exclusively shop at Harris Teeter, and I want to share some of the tricks I have found that work for me. Their sales are some of the best in my area, and I have saved so much money.
Harris Teeter basics
Sign up for the e-VIC card and link the card to your e-mail. Each Wednesday receive an e-mail of the weekly sales, and add the store coupons to your card. Harris Teeter automatically doubles coupons up to $0.99 every day up to 20 per day. Also remember, that Harris Teeter doubles up to three like (identical) coupons per day. They also have super double sales where they double coupons up to $2. This particular sale cycles about every three months. Harris Teeter allows only one e-VIC card per household.
At Harris Teeter, BOGO sales ring up at half price even If you just buy one item. So if you buy two items that are BOGO, you can use two coupons!
Seniors 60 and older receive a 5% discount every Thursday. Discount applies after coupons are deducted.
How convenient to have a store map to familiarize myself with the store. These maps are available at the service desk! There are two Harris Teeter stores in my area, and they each have a different store layout, so a map is a great way to find the items you are looking for quickly! In addition, I have had my cashier ask me if I found everything I was looking for, and I was specifically looking for lemon curd. She called one of the managers who went and located the item on the shelf and brought it to me! Now that is customer service!
Harris Teeter has a sub club, and every Friday the store features a $4.99 footlong sub. However, they frequently run a promotion for a $4.99 sub every day. When you reach 15 sub purchases, you get a free sandwich. The tally shows on your receipt with each checkout.
No need to rush back to the store. Harris Teeter rain checks don’t expire.
Other store coupons
If your Harris Teeter has a pharmacy, they will accept competitors’ coupons from other pharmacies. For example, I have used my ECBs, +Ups, and Register Rewards when checking out (note that different stores have different policies). It’s a good way to use rewards before they expire. Hint: Use your highest dollar value coupon first since there is a limit on how many can be used.
A frequent deal at Harris Teeter is on eggs, orange juice, and milk. Eggland eggs are frequently featured, and there is usually a coupon for these. Also, Harris Teeter frequently runs their brand of milk, eggs, and orange juice on weekly sales. I typically stock up at this price. Be sure to check the expiration dates on each item to make sure it will last until you use it. I recently purchased an 89-ounce container of orange juice for $3.27, which was their sale price!
Friday is one of my favorite days, not because it’s the last day of my work week, but because of the e-Vic specials that Harris Teeter runs. Every Friday, I can’t wait to check my i-Phone to see what Harris Teeter deals I have waiting for me! With your e-VIC card, there are specials that run from Friday through Tuesday in addition to the regular week’s sales, and it also features specials for Saturday and Sunday. Sign up for the e-VIC specials (they can be delivered to your e-mail or your i-Phone). Note that with these specials, if the limit is two, you must buy the two at the same time. You cannot buy one today and one tomorrow.
Paper or plastic
Paper is my go-to favorite for groceries next to reusable bags. These paper bags are solid, have sturdy handles, and the Harris Teeter staff even double bags for heavy items such as sodas, sugar, and milk. Harris Teeter has a recycle container so you can return paper or plastic bags for recycling at the store.
