Personally don’t care about your impulse buys! I’m here to learn about the deals out there. And since you did mention how you like to make Red Velvet cake from scratch and was looking into a box brand, I was wondering if you could consider creating a new section on KCL where people can share their opinions on different brands of foods, cleaning products, etc? It’s been great to be able to afford items I would never in a million years buy. Some have been really great too. It would be nice to share that. Thanks for all you guys do!

Just curious but the picture has Betty Crocker red velvet cake mix not Duncan Hines?

    • Anonymous says:

oops! I bought both to see which I like best and put the wrong one in the pic! Sorry ’bout that! Red Velvet is my favorite and I usually make cupcakes from scratch. Hoping a mix might do the trick in a pinch!

Let me say.. I am a daily reader of KCL (most of the time multiple times a day) and I really appreciate and enjoy your website and match ups. I would be lost in the aisles without them..

However.. I dislike the fact that (apparently) you aren’t being truthful with your weekly spending in the “Let’s Shop” posts. If you would’ve said in the post you bought both cake mixes (and it reflected in the amount spent) I wouldn’t have even brought it up. ALL of us impluse buy, in the same way ALL of us don’t spend $20 a week to full fill ALL of our household needs.

It’s upsetting that our “teacher” is fibbing to the whole class.

PLEASE be honest! Many couponers (old and new) follow you, set the best example you can and include all of your purchases not just the best ones that make it appear that you are spending less.

PS… A smart KCL would’ve had mixes in their stockpile and not had to buy two and pay full price, right?

I agree in the way that what they state as their final cost isn’t realistic. It never includes any tax. In AZ where I live, tax is almost 10% and is always computed BEFORE any coupons. I don’t think the Let’s Shop results are accurate. Just my opinion.

          • Kat255 says:

I like that tax isnt included. There is no way that they can llist tax for 50 diffrent states. I do the math with tax befote i buy. No tax on food in my state. If i had to minus the wrong tax and then add my tax that would be terrible. If its a money maker i do the tax to see if money maker after tax. And the whole pointe of this post is too save money. Do we really need yo know everything kcl bougjt

            • kristy says:

I agree with not including the tax. Tax rates vary from city to city in my area, let alone state by state.

My original comment was because I *honestly* thought KCL was actually running her household on the items she’s posting. She posts pantry/cleaning items in her posts, and I figured she was buying her protein from farmers and veggies from CSA (as suggested on the blog).

To me, the whole point of these posts is to see what KCL is actually spending on her household. How can she say she only spent $25.58 this week, when she didn’t include the second cake mix in that total?

What I’d really like to see, is what KCL really does spend, even if that means she has a couple of impulse items, or non coupon items in her total. It surprised me and caught me off gaurd that she would hide items that she purchased. The whole thing seemed fake. She’s intentionally picking out the best deals to make herself look better. That’s what really bothered me.
I will keep reading, but I will keep in mind she is not being totally truthful. I would also suggest adding a disclaimer to these posts saying all items aren’t listed, only the best deals.

            • Sara says:

This IS A blog about couponing so obviously that’s what’s gonna be posted, she can buy whatever she wants full price and not post it, she doesn’t have to,just because she coupons and has a blog doesn’t mean she *has* to live off of her stockpile only, and doesn’t mean she isn’t being truthful.

          • Sara says:

why should she include tax? I live in NH and we are tax free no tax on any items we buy unless it prepared food only. Her prices end up being mine and every state charges different amount of tax it would become confusing

        • Unicornbaby says:

it’s not realistic for KCL to add taxes because it varies even down to each states, counties and sometimes cities. Every area has different stores However she is doing a great job putting many bargains our way. Does she get some of her infos from other sites? Yes. Info from us? Yes. Every bit of info helps us all save money in the long haul. Granted I go to other sites as well, Example: One sites has my Hy-vee sales(its a Midwestern) Plus everybody’s stockpile is different. In my household I have picky eaters. My granddaughter(6yo) almost lives on cottage cheese, chicken nuggets, hotdogs and mac/cheese. When I see sale on the last 3 items I’d stock up on them…however cottage cheese rarely have coupon or good sales but something we just have to pay regular prices. We will be moving in the summer to AZ. So I will be taking a break from couponing because I have enough stockpile to last not only til we move, but spare to last a few months before we start back up

        • Cristi says:

Calm down. She is showing you the deals she gets. That’s what the point of this whole website is about. We don’t need to know her whole shopping list. Why would we need to know about the items she pays full price on.

        • Jory says:

Wow. Obviously KCL puts the good deals she got that week…not every single thing she buys. I personally would not want to weed though every single purchase she makes to find the good deals. I think this site is great just the way it is and I love it! The only thing I would change are ridiculous comments like yours. I sometimes dont even read the comments on the brags anymore because people like you always have something negative to say about everything.

  5. laceybre says:

    what about the m&m’s?

  6. Lisa says:

You didn’t get the free Keri Lotion at Rite Aid? They were out at my store.

    • Anonymous says:

Out at my store too! :(

    • marcosusy913 says:

      Mine too :(

    • Rachybaby says:

They wouldn’t take my $2 coupon for the keri lotion with the rite aid one…they said its greater then the cost of the product and wouldn’t take it. I bought other things as well. I told her that in the past they took the coupon but she wouldn’t :/

    • Cristi says:

They’ve been out at my store since the coupon came out. I went to get a rain check, and the employee said they probably wouldn’t be getting anymore because they are discontinuing the item. I got the rain check anyways just in case they do get more.
