has anyone used the 20% newspaper Q along with a $3/$15 and worked?

  2. couponnewbie90 says:

Do anybody know if I can use the buy any one schick hydro razor and get a schick shave gel free on the schick hydro silk razor? or is it just for the hydro 5 since they have that picture on the coupon.

  3. Baba says:

I finally figured it! :-) FINALLY! *sigh*

Went to the same cvs store with my mom. She purchased
    2 garnier products
    1 Venus razor
    2 loreal products
All were regular price and produced EBs.
The cashier scanned the 20% coupon but it did not produce any amount. Upon asking her supervisor why it didn’t have any amount, the supervisor manually computed the 20% ( after MQs and CRTs) which totaled 5.74.

Im therefore assuming that the 20% discount doesnt apply to sale-items AND items that produce EBs.

    • dwitt2632 says:

Maybe there is a difference between the newspaper coupons and the printed % off coupons. Now I’m confused!!

      • cc says:

For almost everyone the in ad % off coupons do not work on ECB producing regular priced items, BUT the emailed % off coupons do. It has been this way for me for at least 2 years and you will read many others post the same. Bottom line, don’t plan on the in ad % off coupon working for any kind of promotional item. HTH!

  4. Brittany says:

Just got back from CVS (NY) and the 20% coupon did not work on items that produce extra care bucks. I still did my transaction and spent $18.53 and got $16ECB back. Not a bad deal. A coupon for 25% off printed off on the bottom of my receipt also.

  5. guest says:

does something have to be completely wiped out to get a rain check?

  6. Shandelle says:

I scanned my card at the coupon machine tonight and received $2 off any 2 Crest toothpaste, mouthwash or toothbrush (no size restriction) and $1 off any Colgate Total toothpaste (no size restriction). I went to the travel section and purchased two of the Crest 3D White travel pastes for $1.49 each and one of the Colgate Total pastes for $1.27. All were regular price and included in the 20% off AND met the store coupon requirements. I also still had two of the $2 off U by Kotex CVS store coupons, since the liners kept being sold out… $1.57 regular price, so eligible for 20% off which made them so darn cheap I bought 4 since I was getting $4 in store coupon credit. I think I only paid a little over a $1 for all four. :)

  7. Paula says:

I love this site so much! Thank you for all the work you do in getting us great deals, KCL! And I love how many great deals you can usually get at CVS.

I have a problem, though, with CVS, and am not sure what is the best way to try to resolve it. I go to CVS Saturday afternoons (to a store that is not open 24 hours.) They are usually either removing the tags with the sales prices while I’m there or they have already done so. Annoying, but I try to remember to take my flyer with me. But the past few Saturdays, I’ve had things that are supposed to be on that week’s sale not ring up on sale because, I was told, they’ve already switched the computers over to the following week’s sale. Last week I directly asked, will these finalize at the sale price? And the saleslady said Yes, she’d make sure they did. I think she thought she did, but they rang up at regular price (she did manually give me the ECB I was supposed to get, but I didn’t notice that they rang up at regular price until I was out of the store.) The previous week, I felt like I got attitude from a different saleslady and she cheated me out of $3 ECB.

Question is, what should I do? They are supposed to honor the sale that is going on through Saturday. Do I talk to the manager of the store in person? Or call corporate? I can’t imagine that it takes that much work to change the registers to the following week’s sale (so they have to start doing it at 4PM Saturday afternoon?) Thanks!

    • Brittany says:

Paula, I worked at CVS for almost 5 years, but left a year ago. From what I remember, we always took down sale signs after 3pm. The sale is still good until the store closes that night. However, Saturday night around 6 we would put up the next weeks sale signs. The manager would activate both sales on Saturday night. I do remember it becoming tricky if an item is on sale both weeks at different prices. We would have a manager fix a price at the register if needed.

You really should be getting Saturdays sale price, no matter what the time is that day. I would ask to speak to a manager and show them the price in the flyer and have them correct it. It definatly sounds like that store is doing the sales wrong.

    • shannon says:

paula i work at cvs and our store we start taking our signs down on saturday night around 6pm (we arent 24 hours either) but we wont activate the sale until sunday bcuz they are usually problems with items that have two different sales for both weeks. i would talk to the store manager there and ask them what is going on. bcuz to me it sounds like they are setting the sale that is ending that to end to end when the other sale kicks in. if that makes sense. the reason we take our signs down on saturday is so that we have enough time in the morning to get the new signs up so that people know what the new sales are. but thats also why we wait until six on saturday

  8. Baba says:

CONFUSED???!!!??? :-( before using the 20% coupon, I read the posts so I can try to understand how CVS computes the 20%. I knew that it wouldn’t work on sales items. So My 1st transactions were the sale items (ex. 2/$5 oreo cookies and M&Ms.)
The 2nd transaction were for regular priced items (so I thought…I didn’t know that the schick hydro silk razor was on sale)… Anyway, everything else were non-sale items:
2- loreal root erase (got $4EB)
    2 – gillette deodorant
    1- revlon nail cutter
    1- venus razor (got $3EB)
2- garnier cleansing towelettes (got $5EB)
    2- oral-b toothbrush (got $6)
    1- loreal lipstick
1- loreal eye shadow (got $4EB for the lipstick&eyeshadow purchase)
    1- packaging tape
The total price for these were 99.48 + 11.99 (schick razor) -21.49 (CRT & MQ) – $10EB – 7.02 (20% discount). HOW DID THEY COMPUTE the 20% discount??

    • Baba says:

The 20% states that it excludes “promotional offerings including “buy more & save” promotions….. Does this mean items that give EB are not included? I tried computing it that way but i still can’t come out with the $7.02

      • dwitt2632 says:

I used my 30% off on sunday and it applied to items giving extrabucks. I believe the items included in the % off were listed separately from the sale items. My receipt listed sale items with the savings in bold print and any regular items were grouped together after. There is a break in the items between sale and regular priced. I calculated my percent off these items and it was $1 less than what they actually gave me.

  9. dillianjabar1 says:

Can someone please explain to me how exactly does these coupons work?

  10. Guest says:

Can we use $4 off $12 cosmetic cvs coupon for L’Oreal skincare deal spend $30 get $10 ECB?

  11. It’s the CVS Mfr coupons that are impacting your percent-off. When I add up all of your regular priced items, then subtract all of the “cvs mfr coupons,” I get $13.45. 30% off of that is $4.04. That’s not exactly $4.34, but pretty close. Did the cashier have to put in your EBs manually?

  12. There was no reason to think that Crest travel size wouldn’t work. It always has in the past. So sorry for the inconvenience!!

  13. angelau says:

This has happened to me. The CVS coupons ($2 off $12 suncare, etc) affected your %off total non-sale items coupon. The CVS coupons put the items they are used for on “sale”

  14. NADINE says:

I think you have to scan your 30% coupon before any other coupons..

  15. coopon_newbie says:

Hey. I am in TN. I took a chance and was able to use the 20% off coupon on regular-priced items that generated ecb. I used it on fixodent and oral-b toothbrushes. Although the manager scanned it after the coupons, it still took off 20% from the original price. And I received $6.00 in ecb.

  16. Andrea says:

The 30% off is only off regular priced items. So the 1st 4 items on the receipt didn’t get the % off (because they were on sale). The next 4 items (that don’t say “saved $” in bold on the right) are what you got the 30% off of. Math works for me. Also, those items were you wrote “free” next to them, I don’t think they were free. The 1st item for example, was $1.99 on sale…you saved $2 (meaning the non-sale price was $3.99). So don’t subtract those “saved” amounts in bold…the computer already took that off.

    • Andrea says:

Ok…scratch my response. I didn’t see the $11.99 Neutrogena. Now that doesn’t make sense! Read the exclusions on the coupon. Maybe the Neutrogena was excluded? I say it because the $4.34 is perfect without the Neutrogena. I’m thinking it was excluded for some reason.

  17. Annie says:

Cvs has men’s dove antiperspirant on sale 2 for $5. I had 2 $1 off manu. coupons and $1 off $5 antiperspirant purchase from cvs coupon machine. Making them each $1. Not too bad!

  18. tweetygirl says:

With the P and G B1G1 free coupons…are you allowed to use another P and G coupon on the one that you are buying?

  19. Lisa says:

Can you explain the Crest Pro-Health Rinse deal? I can’t figure out how you got to $.99 for 2. I am coming up with $3.98 for 2. Thanks!

  20. pat says:

DO I understand this correct?. The 30% off is working before coupons and working with EB deals but the newspaper 20% is working after coupons and not with EB deals.

    • angelau says:

Thats exactly what happened with my Mom and I.

    • In a nutshell– there really is no absolute with these. The 30% is the most predictable in how it will behave. The in-ad shopping passes are more unpredictable. Many people have been perfectly successful at both. Some have not. There are so many possible explanations for why the %-off coupons do not take off what you expect, including the use of other CVS coupons (not MQs), or certain EBs. And then there is just the mysterious, unanswerable situations. I used the 20% in-ad pass and no matter which way I recalculated–before, after coupons etc–it didn’t make any sense.

But–the bottom line is that it worked and did save me money on my OOP for items that produced EBs.

In other words, don’t expect to be able to calculate your trip down tot he penny with that 20% off coupon. But it SHOULD work on EB items. It did for me without a problem.

  21. Mila says:

    Hey,KCL, you are the best!

I need help wiith this-I want to return 2 Nivea shaving

foam, wich I paid with 5ecb and 3$/1 and just 1.11$ cash, and when I went to the store, menager said he can’t refund me anything because he don’t know how :(

What I could to do? Thank

    • Anonymous says:

Sometimes when you pay less OOP than the items cost, they cannot refund you because the refund would be more than you actually paid in cash/credit. This is a YMMV kind of situation, as some stores give full credit regardless of how you paid or if you use coupons. One option is to return the items without your receipt and get a store credit or let them refund you what you actually paid in cash and give the remainder in store credit. I had a similar situation this week when I returned the crest travel size because they did not generate the EB.

    • In my experience, you would get the $1.11 back in cash, and the rest on a CVS gift card. HTH!

I’m concerned that a manager doesn’t know how to do this. You did pay for those items, with your own money, and coupons. They should be able to give you a refund. Give corporate a call.

      • Guest says:

Thanks for help, I got full credit for using it in the store 9.11$.
I used the gift card with 9.11$, 1 2$ off from email,5 ecb from last trip, and bought all this.Got 28$ ecb and still have 2.61$ on gift card

  22. Anonymous says:

The 30% you were given is correct for the last 4 items purchased. The first 4 items were considered sale items. Do you notice the separation of the items on the receipt? CVS’s receipt distinguishes between sale and non sale items. The only confusing thing is the Neutrogena–it is included with the sale items but does not show an amount saved. You would have to see the actual tag on the shelf to determine the “regular” price and see if the $11.99 is indeed a sale price. I do show in my ad some Neutrogena on sale, but not your item in particular. My suggestion is to go back to the store and determine if the Neutrogena is a sale price because Online is showing suncare as 25% off and the regular price is $11.99, but I am not sure what the retail locations are doing. It seems there may be a little glitch, that the regular price rang up but it was coded to be a sale item without actually giving you the sale price. If you determine it is a sale price then you should not have gotten the 30% discount on it and your receipt is correct. If it is a regular price, but should have been on sale, then I would speak to a manager and show her the receipt and she may be able to give you a credit or refund for the difference between regular and sale price (25%?). If it is a regular price and not should not be a sale item, then ask for the 30% discount to be applied. If you are still not satisfied then try calling the Extra Care Customer service and inquire. BTW, I always pay attention to the actual shelf price to determine if it is a sale or not when using my % coupons. GOOD LUCK!!

  23. Elli says:

so if i use the extrabucks that i earned last week from Roc skincare won’t affect the 30% right?

  24. sweetgoofygirl says:

The 30% readjust after coupons are taken off, most likely why it was only $4.34. I come up with the right amount when adding the coupons and taking away the price of the items. Im not sure what coupons go with what items, so I could not figure out the 30% properly, but if you use coupons on them items the 30% off will adjust with the coupons.

    • sarafoxyjolie78 says:

Thanks all who replied…. I will try your method sweetgoofygirl… but according to the post on the percent off coupons I should get the amount of the regular price… I did not use any beauty bucks just regular ones and mq’s are 1 off 1 mitchem’s times 2… 1 off one neutrogena sun care… 3 cvs coupon machine physcians formula… 1 off sally hensen mq… 2 off each covergirl eyeshadow 2 of those… 2 off 2 deoderants cvs mfr coupon… 2 off 12 suncare item cvs mfr coupon… 3 eb’s and another 3 eb… and then the 30% off… thanks again… bummer but I may have to take back the neutrogena and get this weeks banana boat! so disappointed… I think too I will separate my sale items from my non sale items…. I still don’t understand.

      • Jennifer says:

I think its because of the $2/12 suncare item. According to KCL “purchase based” coupons affect how the percent coupons work.

  25. Kymba says:

hmm, you were given 30% off of the last 4 items. Not sure why you didn’t get it off of the Neutrogena. I can’t really tell from the receipt. Probably because of the type of EB’s you used to pay or the CVS coupons. I know some effect your percentage off (Beauty Bucks, Green Bag Bucks, manually printed EB’s).

  26. notsodumbgirl says:

They charged me $10.24 each then when I realized and tried to straighten it out they refunded me the sale price ($15 total). I walked out with nothing and spent $5. But since they didn’t give me my sales receipts back (just the refund slips) I have no way of getting it straightened out.

    • shannon says:

if you bought it within that week they can look up your receipt on the main office computer. but it only keeps it in the system for one week

  27. jept says:

hi! i have a question.. i have a coupon that says $4 off $15 pro salon purchase, can I use it to buy the pantene expert? thanks!

  28. Jen says:

    Hey krazycouponers,

Was anyone able to use the in ad coupon for ecb producing items? Because when i used the last 20% in ad coupon last time it only took the 20% off to items that didnt produce ecb my (Fillers) but it didnt applied to the ecb items. I just wanted to know if anyone have success or failure in using the in ad 20% coupon. Thanks krazycouponers.

Big fail for me. :( Worked last time, not this time. I’m going to call CVS today and see if they can explain the ‘rhyme or reason’ to this whole thing for me….probably not but it’s worth a try!

    • coopon_newbie says:

Hey. I am in TN. I was able to use the 20% off coupon on items that generated ecb. I used it on fixodent and oral-b toothbrushes. Although the manager scanned it after the coupons, it still took off 20% from the original price. And I earned $6.00 in ecb.

    • Success for me, but not down to the penny that I had calculated. In all honesty, these in-ad shopping passes are very unpredictable.

      • Shandelle says:

I know, it seems like their registers are rounding down. Like if 20% calculated to $1.257, you’d think it would take off $1.26 but it doesn’t. I don’t get it at all.

  29. AJ says:

I showed the advertisement on the Kcups and was able to get the B1G1 free per the manager plus use my $1.50 off on both of them! Score! I was so happy!

  30. The small 2.7oz toothpastes are not generating ECB, the small multipacks are clearanced and won’t generate either and the sale was retracted on the Starbucks K-Cups.

  31. RondaP says:

The Crest 2.7 oz didn’t generate an ECB this time (for me).

  32. Angie_nand says:

I just visited my 24/7 CVS and the Starbucks k-cups coffee are ringing up at a sale price for 7.99 each. The manager said it was a misprint and they received their notice about it yesterday.

    • amy purple says:

Angie – Same thing just happened to me, but there was a sign next to the item saying there was a mistake on the price. I was so bummed!

    • BarbieJo14 says:

Same here, but my store hadn’t received their notice so they gave it to me…They said they were going to call their help desk but didn’t want to make me wait so they honored it!

      • Summer says:

You are a lucky girl! We went on and bought four of the K-cups as they were $7.99 and we had four $1.50 off coupons. We rarely see decent coupons for K-cups so we were sort of happy. Still a bummer after getting up early just to go get them BOGO.

    • wmarsaw says:

Went to my CVS this morning right when they opened to get my K-Cups. Sign said $7.99 but no BOGO. I took my 4 boxes to the check out and she said they were ringing up $7.99. I showed her my ad which says BOGO. She not only gave me the $7.99 price, but manually inputted BOGO. So with my 4 $1.50 off coupons, the total for 4 boxes came to $9.98, and I used an existing $10 ExtraBuck and got my coffee for free.

      • Waterproof Penguin says:

That’s excellent. At my store, it also was ringing up as 7.99, but I showed her the ad and she manually gave me the other one free. Also, there was no sign on the shelf to indicate that it’s a sale price and not a BOGO. I really think in such cases they should honor the ad less they post it otherwise. Even then, I still feel like they should honor it if you point out the ad because that’s what make makes us go to the store in the first place.

      • boggsjess says:

This happened to me too. I went Sunday afternoon and looked carefully for any signage indicating a misprint – none. So I grabbed 10 boxes of Kcups (PLEASE NOTE I did NOT clear the shelf. Not only were there plenty, but I had preordered last week) and 2 jars of the instant Folgers. The Folgers were ringing up at 7.49 BOGO, but the Kcups at 7.99 each. The cashier was super when I showed her the ad. She called the manager over and they decided to ring it up BOGO at the sale price. So the way my transaction went was: (7.99 x 10) + (7.49 X 2) = 94.88 – (10/50, 5/15 yes you can use two different amounts off coupons as long as you meet the amount and they are different amounts coupons per a corporate answer I received a couple months ago) = 79.88 – (1.50 x 9 starbucks man q, 1.50 x 2 Folgers man q) = 63.38 – BOGO = 15.94 The best part about this is that it wasn’t even for me but for my mother-in-law. She was so happy she almost cried when I brought what would have cost her $120 worth of coffee. It made for a happy day :-)

  33. anyone else having trouble with the walgreens READMORE link undrer 5/12 deals?

I have a coupon that printed out of the cvs machine for $3 off of $12 feminine hygiene product. Would the schick hydro razors count as feminine hygeine? If so that means they would come out free after extra bucks and coupons right?

  35. Alyssa says:

Can you post some deals for the 30% coupon please!

  36. Gel says:

if i buy 2 fixodent that means i can get 6ecb?

  37. dyron. says:

Thanks KCL for the match-ups. you ladies are the BEST! :D can’t wait to see your guys post on using the CVS % coupon on Sunday.

  38. Lory says:

Are the Schick razors sale priced or are they eligible for the 20% off discount?

  39. alicia says:

I do not see the Post fruity pebbles coupon :(

  40. sharie says:

Is the 20% before or after coupons?

    • T$ says:

After coupons. The more coupons you use, the smaller the 20 % off becomes :(

    • They take the 20% off BEFORE any manufacturer coupons. There are some CVS coupons and EBs that will effect your percentage. But not all. We have a tutorial in our weekly %-off coupon post, that covers all of the details. Look for a new post tomorrow!

      • sharie says:

        Yes. Better deal if before.

      • Waterproof Penguin says:

Just wondering, if the savings pass is a one time use pass, then does CVS mean that you can only use one 20% coupon per week, even if you have more passes? What I mean is, if you get two savings passes from two different newspapers, can both of them be used in the same week in different trips? I’ve just found that after using one of these, I forget about picking up one or two products and it would be nice to be able to go back later in the week to pick them up.

        • lu says:

Yea, you can use more than one pass in different transactions or different days. I’ve done it before.

          • Waterproof Penguin says:

Thanks the coupon does say one coupon per customer but it doesn’t state whether it’s per day or transaction.

        • Last time they did this it connected to your card. It does say “one coupon per customer.” If you try it, let us know if it works this week!

          • Waterproof Penguin says:

The 20% off coupon worked on my second trip. Yay! I also took your tip of scanning my card in the magic coupon machine and all these coupons spit out at me, including a $4 off of $15 cosmetics. Combined that with a $4 L’Oreal lipstick coupon, and a $2 L’Oreal cosmetic coupon and the $5 ECB back for spending $15 on L’Oreal products. I bought a single eye shadow for $4.99 and a $9.99 lipstick, so in the end I think I made $3 if you count the ECB. (Sorry, I’m not organized enough to send you this deal through the other channel, but this should be a heads up to the ladies. Even without the $4 off of $15 cosmetics coupon, if they have this sunday’s paper, they can still get $15 of L’Oreal cosmetics for about $1 OOP.)

  41. nandranie says:

Question can I combine (2) different % off coupon

    • Anonymous says:

Read the wording on the coupon and see if it allows/disallows it. I have read here on the blogs that although it seems they should not accept 2 percent off coupons in the same transaction, some people have done so without problems. It seems it’s a YMMV situation and probably how attentive your cashier is. If the wording on the coupon does not prohibit it, I would try it, but be aware it may not work when figuring your deals.
