Sometimes I wish I lived in a Restoration Hardware catalog. I love fashion and design from eras past. Everything from their one-of-a-kind early-20th-century furniture pieces to their unique selection of knobs, pulls, hinges, and hooks would feel right at home in my apartment. If only I had an endless budget to spend on decorating my home!

Fortunately, there are a few ways to save on Restoration Hardware's furniture, lighting, decor, hardware, and other wares. Follow these eight tips to save on it all — I just hope we don't have our eye on the same floor model sell-off!

1. Try to score a floor model sell-off

The best furniture deals at Restoration Hardware are their floor model sell-offs. Each location usually keeps a list of people who are interested in certain pieces. If you see a floor model piece you love, request to be added to the list. When Restoration Hardware needs to move these items to make room for new stock, they will sell them for 60 percent off. These sell-offs usually happen every six months.

2. Place orders through your local Restoration Hardware store instead of online

If you order online, you'll have to pay for shipping. If you place an order through your local Restoration Hardware store, certain items like hardware and other eligible items ship free. This helps support your store, plus you can speak directly with the employees in-store instead of having to contact customer service in the event that there's a problem with your order.

3. For larger items not eligible for free shipping, place one order

Shipping cannot be waived on certain items like lighting and furniture, no matter if you order online or through your local Restoration Hardware store. But, there's a flat rate $125 shipping fee on furniture. So order all furniture items as one shipment and you do not have to pay that fee more than once.

4. Bring all returns to the store

Avoid paying for return shipping if a particular item didn't work out. You have a 30-day window to return any purchase to your local Restoration Hardware store, and you won't have to pay for return shipping.

5. Sign up for the RH credit card

Earn points with the RH Card and get rewards to spend in the store. For every $500 you spend, you get $25 Restoration Hardware credit back, which is the same as 5 percent cash back.

The credit card has a 12-month payment plan with no minimum payments and no interest. So you can spread your payments for large purchases out over the course of a year. Only do this if you can pay the whole thing off in that one-year time frame. After 12 months, the no interest rate goes up to 25 percent.

6. Shop the sales cycles

Restoration Hardware rarely deeply discounts their items, but if you know the sales cycles, you can save as much money as possible. Sales usually start on Mondays and end on Tuesdays. If you're waiting for something in particular to go on sale or want to know when the next sale starts, it's worth calling your store to check; they're more than happy to share that information with you if they know it.

The Bed and Bath Event, which is typically 20 percent off all textiles, paint, hardware, and related items, usually happens in July and January. The Friends and Family Event, which is 20 percent off all full-price items, is usually the weekend before Thanksgiving. Holidays are good days for sales too — keep your eyes peeled on Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Veterans Day.

7. Use RH’s free interior design services

If you're moving or redesigning a particular room in your house, every local Restoration Hardware store has at least one full-time designer who will work with you for free. The designers can help you navigate what in the giant Restoration Hardware catalog fits in your budget, and their service doesn't cost a thing. The interior designers work with all budgets, and it's their job to make customers happy, so they won't try to sell you anything you can't afford.

8. Shop at a Restoration Hardware outlet

There are 11 Restoration Hardware outlets across the United States. Check here to see if there's one in your area. These outlets sell both products that are being phased out from local Restoration Hardware stores or anything that is not in perfect condition. That might mean a tag is missing or the item is not in its original packaging. If you can deal with an imperfection or two such as a nick, you can find furniture, lighting, rugs, and more. Restoration Hardware Outlets cannot ship or hold items, so you'll have to make the trip and take whatever you buy home yourself.
