Rice Krispie Treats–a classic. This Easter, put a new spin on the classic and think outside the square! Take a peak at these simple recipes for Rice Krispie treats with a spring spin.
Rice Krispie Treat Bird’s Nest
1/4 teaspoon water
4 drops green food coloring
1/2 cup flaked coconut
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 ten ounce pkg regular marshmallows
4 cups miniature marshmallows
6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
Miniature marshmallows
Assorted jelly beans
Mini chocolate eggs
Directions
- In small bowl stir together water and green food coloring. Add coconut. Stir until coconut is tinted. Spread on baking sheet to dry.
- In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.
- Add Rice Krispies cereal. Stir until well coated.
- Divide warm mixture into sixteen 2 1/2-inch muffin-pan cups coated with cooking spray.
- Shape mixture into individual cups. Cool. Remove from pans.
Finally, fill the cooled nests with coconut, marshmallows, jelly beans or chocolate eggs!
Rice Krispie Treat Eggs
12 Plastic snap-apart 3 x 2-in Easter eggs
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 package (10 oz., about 40) regular marshmallows
4 cups miniature marshmallows
6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
1/2 cup M&M’s
Directions
- Clean, then coat inside of plastic eggs with cooking spray. Set aside.
- In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.
- Add Rice Krispies cereal. Stir until well coated.
- Using greased hands, firmly press 1/4 cup of the cereal mixture into each plastic egg half. Use fingers to make hollow center in each half. Remove from molds. Place on wax paper. Cool slightly.
- Place about 6 M&M’s in one half of each egg. Gently press two halves of each egg together until they stick. Cool completely.
- Decorate with additional M&M’s.
