Whittling down the things to buy in November is not an easy task — we see some of the lowest prices of the year during Black Friday sales. That makes it feel like a major stock up time. But, we managed to pare down the deals to a list of nine things to buy in November that are worthy of your time (and your $$$). You’ll find deals on Thanksgiving foods, baking supplies, electronics, and apparel on our list.

As always, we’ll explain how to do even better than the Black Friday sale price. Some food deals are better if you shop the week before Thanksgiving. And some apparel deals are better on Cyber Monday or the very last few days of November. Don’t settle for the first sale you see, even when it’s tempting. Here’s a list of things to buy in November, along with the prices you should aim to pay (and when to score them).

The biggest Black Friday sales to shop in November.

  • Walmart: The first of two sales began online on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2023. The second sale hits online on Tuesday, Nov. 22.
  • Target: New early Black Friday deals every Sunday. The official Black Friday sale starts Sunday, Nov. 19, 2023.
  • Amazon: The Amazon Black Friday ad dropped Nov. 6 and announced that the Amazon sale begins Friday, Nov. 17, 2023.
  • Kohl’s: Early deals kicked off on Nov. 3 and ran through Nov. 9. We expect the main sale to start on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2023.
  • Best Buy: The early deals started for everyone on Monday, Oct. 30, 2023.

TVs & Electronics: Score deals during Black Friday sales.

a woman looking at ipads in costco

While you don’t exactly “stock up in November” on TVs or electronics, they’re still things to buy in November if you need a replacement or an upcoming Christmas gift. Black Friday sales are one of the best times to get your hands on affordable electronics. And now that most Black Friday sales have transitioned to online, it’s more convenient than ever to snag these deals.

TVs

Here’s how we suggest you find great Black Friday TV deals this November. Keep a goal of 30% – 50% savings in mind as you sort out the best deals. Don’t waste any time on TV deals for less than 20% off regular prices. The best deals are going to be 40% – 50% off (you won’t have to hunt for these, we’ll share everything we find in that range). What about top-name brands? Well, if you can save 30% on a top-rated TV from LG, Samsung, or Sony, we think you’re getting a good deal.

iPhones

You can get older iPhones for sale at stores like Walmart, Costco, Target, and Best Buy when Apple’s latest generation hits the shelves. Black Friday is a great time to shop. During past sales, we’ve seen gift cards with an iPhone purchase (at Walmart), 24% savings on iPads and $200 gift cards with an iPhone X Pro Max purchase (at Target), and up to 23% savings on an iPad Pro (at Best Buy).

AirPods

During October’s Prime Day madness, we just saw the lowest price of the year for AirPods at Target ($85.49 with a RedCard). But for Black Friday, Walmart refuses to be outdone. They dropped the Apple AirPods 2nd Gen to just $69 on Nov. 8. We’ve seen Amazon price-matching that price, but they keep selling out. Walmart is your best bet for $69 price and in stock. If Target decides to get in on this, watch out. Target’s price with a RedCard could be as low as $65.

Apple Watch

Walmart has the Apple Watch Series 9 (reg. $389.99) for $349.99 in their first round of Black Friday deals that dropped on Nov. 8.

Much like AirPods, the October Prime Day and competing sales at Walmart and Target help to predict the pricing on Apple Watches for Black Friday sales in November. Look for $129 deals on the Apple Watch SE without GPS (1st Gen) and $199 for the Apple Watch SE (2nd Gen).

Laptops

You’ll find the best Black Friday laptop deals at Walmart, Best Buy, and Amazon. We’ve seen Amazon offer up to $900 off pricier products, like MacBooks, Chromebooks, and HP Intel models.

If you’re specifically looking to buy a MacBook on Black Friday, you’ll likely save more by buying from Walmart, Amazon, and Best Buy. Apple rarely offers discounts on their website, and Black Friday is (almost) no exception. However, Apple will likely offer free $50 to $100 Apple gift cards with qualifying purchases during their Black Friday event. We’ve also seen Best Buy’s Black Friday deals include 26% off MacBooks.

Thanksgiving Ingredients: Save big with a free turkey.

A Walmart shopping cart full of groceries needed to make dishes for a Thanksgiving meal.

Many popular grocery retailers offer free Thanksgiving turkey promotions during their November sales. Just by doing your regular grocery shopping, you’ll earn a free turkey either by spending a certain amount throughout the month or within a single store visit.

Confirmed free turkey deals for 2023.

  • Ibotta Thanksgiving Meal: Free turkey, three sides, and gravy for completing the Turkey and Sides bonuses in your Ibotta account.
  • Kroger: Through Nov. 23, spend $125 or more in a single transaction, and you’ll get one whole turkey for free.
  • Shoprite: Price Plus club members earn a free frozen turkey up to 21 pounds when they spend $400 at Shoprite from Sunday, Oct. 15 through Thursday, Nov. 23, 2023.
  • Giant Food Stores: Trade 400 Giant Food Stores reward points for a free turkey up to 20 pounds Earn this between Nov. 1 – 23, 2023.
  • Acme: Get a free turkey through your Acme U account after spending $400 by Nov. 23, 2023.

Here are some examples of free Thanksgiving turkey deals we’ve seen in years past. Keep in mind that most of these promotions require a rewards account (usually free) to snag your free bird.

  • BJs: BJ’s usually offers a free turkey coupon if you spend $150 in one trip. This one ran from Nov. 1 – 9, 2023.
  • ButcherBox: In 2022, you could get $100 off plus a free Thanksgiving turkey from ButcherBox for signing up for text promotions.
  • Albertsons: Starting in mid-November, we expect to see Albertsons offer their free up-to-20-pound turkey when you spend $100 in a single transaction.
  • Foodtown: Last year, you had to spend at least $400 (in one trip or multiple) to redeem your free turkey (up to 20 pounds).
  • Winco: If you spent $125 in one transaction at Winco between Nov. 14 – 23, 2022, you could get a free Jennie-O Grade A turkey.
  • Weis: Loyalty club members could a free turkey (or ham) for 200 points, which equaled $200 spent, last year.

Aim to spend around $0.29 – $0.49 per pound on turkey.

If you don’t end up scoring a free turkey, the goal price per pound should be around $0.50. This means a 14-pound turkey will ring up around $7 when you check out. In 2022, Publix had the lowest prices on turkey at just $0.29 per pound. Kroger offered up a deal where spending $25 earned you a whole turkey at $0.29 per pound.

Looking at last year’s Thanksgiving grocery ads, you’re more likely to score the best per-pound price on a turkey if you shop after Nov. 10. The best deals at Publix, Kroger, Target, Walmart, and Aldi were all between Nov. 10 – 19, 2022.

More Thanksgiving dinner things to buy in November.

Thanksgiving foods are normally discounted in November, particularly sides and ingredients to make turkey-day favs. In 2022, Walmart and Aldi dropped prices back to 2019 levels, which resulted in up to 30% off Thanksgiving dinner necessities.

Broth

If you’re shopping for Swanson broth, the stock-up price is $0.05 per ounce. So look for the 32-ounce boxes at a $1.69 price point. For other brands, like College Inn, grab a 32-ounce box when it’s $0.99, or $0.03 per ounce for a stock-up deal.

Stuffing

Shop stuffing mix deals in mid-November for the best prices. Store brands at Aldi or Kroger should fall to around $0.75 – $1 per box. If you’re a Stove Top fan, the stock-up price is $1.49 per box.

Pumpkin Pie

Aldi and Walmart have low pricing on pre-made pies. Aim for around $4.50 for a 37-ounce pie.

Food Storage Containers: Aim to pay $0.50 for plastic or $2 per piece for glass.

Rubbermaid brilliance in cart

Things to buy in November include deals on storage containers, which are abundant this month, so add them to your stock up list,. Big box stores like Walmart and Amazon know that you need a way to store all the Thanksgiving leftovers. So if you’re old Tupperware is in need of replacing, November is THE time to shop.

While the deals depend on the volume of the containers, a good price point to look for is under $2 per piece for a glass container set. So this means if you have an 18-piece set at Target for $25, you’d calculate 25 ÷ 18 = $1.38 per piece. The plastic storage sets from Glad or Ziploc should be even cheaper. Look for a $1.49 price tag for a set of three, or $0.50 per piece.

And if you have your heart set on a specific, pricier set, like the OXO Good Grips 20-piece collection that’s normally over $200 — aim for at least 30% off to get a true deal. We saw this set drop from $11.50 per piece to $7.53 per piece during last year’s Amazon Black Friday sale.

Toys: Fun things to buy in November using Target Circle offers.

a woman holding a target toy book standing behind a target cart

While it’s actually a good time to start picking up the hottest toys of the year in October, you can start shopping other sales in November to get some pretty fab toy deals. The biggest deals are always at Amazon, Target, and Walmart.

During Black Friday sales, shop Target for board game deals up to 50% off or buy one, get one free offers. Target Circle members can get 25% off one toy or book through Nov. 18, 2023. Amazon usually has awesome discounts on Melissa & Doug toys and small stocking stuffers under $5. Walmart sees discounts of up to 60% off select toys.

Baking Supplies: Shop in mid-November to get stock-up prices.

Different brands of butter in a Walmart shopping cart

From pumpkin pies to early Christmas cookies, November is for baking. We think butter, flour, canned pumpkin, and chocolate chips are all things to buy in November. Start shopping sales around the second to third week of the month to score the best prices on baking supplies. Since Thanksgiving falls on Nov. 23 this year, we predict you’ll see the best baking sales during the week of Nov. 13 – 19. Here’s what you should stock up on in November.

Butter

Store-brand butter is 75% cheaper than wholesale. Costco and Sam’s Club have the cheapest per-ounce price (at around $0.18). Walmart and Aldi come in a close second. Aim to pay $0.50 per stick for store-brand butter, or $2 per pound. If you absolutely cannot live without your Land-O-Lakes, shop at Walmart for the best per-ounce price, and don’t pay more than $0.75 per stick or $3 for a pound.

Flour

Aim for at least 30% off Gold Medal and other name brands. A stock-up price to watch for is $2.49 for a 5-pound bag of Gold Medal flour. If you prefer King Arthur, shoot for $1 per pound, or $5 for a 5-lb bag. Walmart often has the lowest prices on flour every day, but you’ll find great sales at Kroger brand stores in November, too.

Marshmallows

A 10-ounce store-brand bag shouldn’t cost you more than $1. Aim for $0.89 to $0.99 per bag. If you’re a Jet-Puffed purist, $1.25 or less is best.

Chocolate Chips

Store-brand bags should be under $2 for a stock-up price. Nestle Chocolate Chips are a good deal if you can find a 12-ounce bag for $2 or less.

Canned Pumpkin

Libby’s pumpkin is worthy of a stock-up if it hits $0.99 per 15-ounce can.

Refrigerated Pie Crusts

Look for $2.99 sales on Pillsbury Pie Crusts, which is around $1.50 per crust. We’ve also seen buy one, get one free offers, working out to $1.07 per crust.

Family Pajamas: Get the best deals at Kohl’s, Target, and Zulily.

A woman holding matching family christmas pajamas

If you can get all your fam stuffed into matching jams, we salute you! But aim to spend $9 or less on kids’ sizes and $15 or less for adult sets. Kohl’s, Target, and Zulily have some of the best pricing each year. Target and Zulily deals hit around the middle of November, usually the week of Thanksgiving, while Kohl’s is going to have the best prices (we’re talking 75% off) during and after Black Friday.

Women’s Boots: They’re typically $19.99 in Black Friday sales, but you can do better.

We see some great women’s apparel deals in Black Friday sales, but one thing the sales all seem to have in common is a price drop on women’s boots. Most retailers (Macy’s, Kohl’s, JCPenney) offer $20 boots and we predict this year will be no different. But you know to be truly Krazy, we have to do better than that.

Utilize Kohl’s stackable coupons (while earning Kohl’s Cash) or save Target Circle offers (we’ve seen up to 30% off boots in November), to snag a pair for between $13 – $16.

Kids’ Coats: Grab ’em when they hit over 75% off and stock up for next year.

Another thing most Black Friday sales have in common? Kids’ puffer coats. And just like women’s boots, we think you can do better than the average $19.99 price. Hold out until Cyber Monday sale emails hit your inbox because you’ll see up to 79% off puffer coats by the tail end of November. Buy a size up and store it away for next year if you manage to find 80% off or higher.

Kohl’s, Target, and Zulily are the three heavy hitters when it comes to price drops on puffers. While $19.99 is an okay price for kids’ coats, it’s entirely possible to get them closer to $13 for toddlers and $15 for kids.

Halloween Clearance: Pounce when it hits 70% off.

two people shopping the halloween clearance section at Target

Right out of the gate for things to buy in November: Halloween clearance. Since some retailers have had Halloween stuff out since July, you’ll find sales started in October. By Nov. 1, you should’ve been scooping up whatever’s left on the shelf for at least 70% off. Admittedly, the section can look pretty sparse, but markdowns that steep are always worth a look.

Here are the best things to buy in November during the Halloween clearance sales.

Shop Target for: Halloween decor.

Target kicked off Halloween clearance at 50% off on Nov. 1. Then they’ll usually drop to 70% off, but the pickings get slim. Finally, if there’s anything left, you can snag 90% off — but by then the shelves are pretty bare.

Shop Walmart for: Halloween costumes.

Walmart also started clearance on Nov. 1. Their costumes are already affordable, but the clearance sale knocks them down to $4 – $8.

Shop CVS for: Trunk-or-Treat kits.

CVS also discounts all the way up to 90% off. Again, the shelves can look like a ghost town (pun intended), but we’ve seen trunk-or-treat sets and adult costumes marked down to just $1.99 (reg. $19.99).

Shop all of the above for: Candy.

TBH, any of the stores are going to have killer candy deals to get them off the shelves. The 70% off deals are usually well worth stocking up on your favorite treats.

Things to Buy in November Honorable Mentions:

person holding 3 footlong subs

National Sandwich Day: Nov. 3

National Sandwich Day is celebrated on Nov. 3 every year in honor of the birthday of the sandwich’s namesake, John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich. The celebration typically includes, you guessed it, free sammies. Here’s what we saw earlier this month.

  • Jimmy John’s: Rewards members got $1 off mobile orders on Nov. 3.
  • Subway: Buy one, get one free footlongs at select restaurants with promo code FREEFL.
  • McAlister’s Deli: BOGO free sandwiches on National Sandwich Day.
  • Mr. Pickle: Earn quadruple rewards points on National Sandwich Day.
  • Schlotzsky’s: Rewards members received a $5 medium sandwich from Nov. 3 to 5.

Veteran’s Day: Nov. 11

Each year we compile a list of businesses offering Veteran’s Day freebies for items or services to veterans and active military. Typically these freebies are only offered on actual Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11., but we have seen some offered throughout the weekend.

Many retailers also have Veteran’s Day sales. While they can’t quite compete with Black Friday sales, it is a good time to look at large appliances, experience deals at Groupon, and take advantage of the 10% Target military discount or the 20% Walgreens military discount.

Starbucks Red Cup Day: Nov. 16 (Rumored)

Another thing to add to your list of things to buy in November? A Starbucks holiday drink! Get a free red reusable cup when you order a seasonal drink on Starbucks Red Cup Day, rumored for Nov. 16, 2023.

Travel Tuesday: Nov. 28

Travel Tuesday falls annually on the day after Cyber Monday. It’s the day when airlines, hotels, and even cruise lines offer discounts to get in on all the Black Friday sale madness. Truth is, you’ll likely see the deals start around Black Friday and continue into Cyber Monday. We typically see the best deals from smaller airlines, so be sure to check on flight sales at the following airlines.

  • Aer Lingus
  • Air Canada
  • Alaska Airlines – In 2022, they had airfare as low as $29
  • Allegiant – Their Cyber Monday sale last year had flights from $40.
  • Etihad
  • Fiji Airways
  • Frontier Airlines – We actually saw up to 90% off flight deals from Frontier last year.
  • Jet Blue – Offered a promo code in 2022 for $50 off one-way tickets.
  • Singapore Airlines
  • Spirit – We saw double the points on all flights and packages for Cyber Monday 2022.
  • WestJet

Wait until December for…

a woman holding out a target baby gift card

Target Gift Cards

Target often has a 10% off sale on gift cards the first weekend in December. We’re predicting the 2023 Target gift card sale to run Dec. 2 – 3, 2023.

Candles

If you want to stock up on candles for gifts (or just for yourself) hold off until December for Bath and Body Works Candle Day. While it’s called Candle “Day”, it typically lasts for two days, both in-store and online. We think you’ll see this sale on Dec. 1 – 2, 2023.
