Get Cash Back When You Shop Through Ebates

After the suggestion from a friend, I had to check out the Ebates website. I don’t shop online very often, but with my brother’s birthday coming up, I needed to order some gifts to be sent in the mail. I was already shopping for savings by going to Kohl’s, but the icing on the cake was when I clicked on the link for Kohl’s on the Ebates website.  I got 6% back on what I spent! After further examination, I discovered that Ebates has links to nearly all of my favorite stores! I could kick myself for not using it sooner. It’s easy to use, a great way to save money on your purchases, and you get REAL money back!

What is Ebates?

Ebates is a merchant referral program that sends cash back on purchases you make from stores on their website. There are literally hundreds of stores where you can shop for everything from your basic groceries and necessities, to home and high fashion in department stores. Target, Walmart, Kohl’s, Macy’s, Dillard’s, and Staples are just a few of my favorites.

How do I get started?

To get started go to ebates.com and enter your email address and password.  Just for signing up, you have a choice of a $10 gift card to Barnes & Noble, Target, Home Depot, Magazines.com or a $5 gift from Ebates. I chose a $10 gift card to Target. These become available after you make your first purchase of $25 or more through Ebates.

On the left side of the site you can shop by category or search for your store. Next to each store Ebates lists the percentage you can get back on your purchases. This ranges from 1% to 25%.

When Will I Get My Money?

Ebates pays out every three months. So for the rest of 2012, checks or PayPal deposits will be made May 15, August 15, and November 15.  If you’ve earned less than $5.01, your balance will carry over into the next pay period.

The amount of money you can earn is based on what you spend, but don’t let sales or cash-back offers lull you into spending more money than you planned.

I love Ebates but everyone should know that if you use a coupon or a promo code that is not listed on Ebates, the stores wont pay you your cash back. I noticed that some will, but most stores wont.I was so mad that a bunch of my orders weren’t being logged and I wrote the the help desk. They told me I was using coupons that cancelled my rebate. Duh. I didnt read the rules and I should have. Now, I get maybe $100 back every couple months. Just follow the rules and youll be golden

I wish they gave money back for ebay. That’s where I do most of my shopping.

Ebates is fine for small purchases, but we made an $800 purchase and they did not give us our cash back. We contacted customer service multiple times with no luck. We ended up contacting customer service at Cabellas where we had purchased from and they sent us a gift card for the amount that Ebates should have sent us.

  5. How much different is it from My Points?

I love Ebates! I’ve been using it for about 5 years and have gotten nearly $200 back in “fat checks.” I don’t shop online terribly often but it still pays off. Also, the customer service is MUCH better than the “Shop at Home” site that KCL talks about. I will never use that site again. For me, Ebates posts cash back much quicker and has always been great when I’ve had a question or issue. I will stick with Ebates for life!

I agree, shop at home offers a slightly higher % back, but not worth going through the hassel with them. I’ve had enough for a cash out for a while ($25.00) and they won’t send my check. We gave up on them and only do ebates now! I only wish they offered cash back on amazon!

I get a check every cycle normally for about $15-40 depending on what time of year, birthdays, or family events we have. For example my check was higher because of all the ordering I did over the thanksgiving/christmas holidays and will be higher this next check because (20) birthdays of families and friends but will slow down until Sept when we have our yearly family reunion. So if you order from places like target, bed bath & beyond or you’re a junkie for designer items (guilty here) 6pm is even on there!

It totally works.  I thought it was a “yeah right” website until I got my first big fat check!

Same here!  I was worried about signing up, but we’re avid online shoppers so we gave it a shot.  We saved a lot of money this past Christmas!  Well worth it.  I’ve told all my friends who have also had great experiences as well.
