Sayonara, stilettos (and blisters, bunions, and bruises too)–flats are all the rage for fall. Hallelujah and fare-thee-well, PedEgg! From tasseled loafers to ballet flats to smoking slippers, these fall flats are flat out adorable. There’s no need to spend a whole month’s grocery money on a pair of new shoes. You’ll be much happier footing the bill for a new pair (or two) of fall shoes if you opt for an affordably-priced knockoff.

Tasseled Loafers

Tasseled loafers have been around since the 1950′s. As with all fashion, everything comes around again. Interestingly, this style is often referred to as “lawyer’s shoes,” since during George Bush’s presidential campaign against Bill Clinton, Bush complained that Clinton was supported by “every lawyer that ever wore a tasseled loafer.” Political aspersions aside, no juris doctorate is required to don a pair of these classically chic shoes. And one thing is for sure—tasseled loafers will win over any style jury.

Ballet Slippers

While ballet slippers are not a new trend for fall, their versatility makes them a fashion favorite for every season. Wear them to work, wear them to the grocery store, or wear them to a party—wherever you go, you’re going to want to wear them. Since you’re going to want these wardrobe staples in every color, forgo the pricey versions and opt for a less expensive knockoff like the ones available at Target.

Smoking Slippers

Trendcasters have proclaimed that smoking slippers are the new on-trend flat. This fall season’s must-have shoe draws its inspiration from menswear. Slip on a pair of these Hugh Hefner-style loungers? Anything for fashion, I guess. For a look that’s both preppy and a bit tongue-in-cheek, opt for a pair of leopard print or skull embroidered smoking slippers.

I purchased the tasseled loafers in 2 different colors from 2 different Target stores for only $9.98 CLEARANCE.  The Target closest to my house still had them for $19.99 – shop around ladies!

  2. Smoking slippers were big back in the 90s, as were the original Ballet flats- Sam&Libby’s.  I have several pairs of these that I wear to work (we aren’t allowed to wear heels here b/c of the safety regs) and I bought almost every pair at either ROSS or Marshalls.  Great place for great shoes at way, way, way low prices.  (Same with Famous Footwear…I get q’s from FF on a monthly basis!”
