1. White Chocolate Candy Corn Fudge

White chocolate fudge with pretzels and candy corn

Halloween treats like these will look gorgeous on your dessert table, and it’s a good way to reuse that candy corn.

What You’ll Need:

Directions:

  1. Break the pretzels and put them in a small bowl with the candy corn.
  2. Cover the bottom of an 8″x8″ baking pan with parchment paper ($3).
  3. In a small pan, melt sugar, cream, salt, and butter on medium heat. Stir when mixture begins to boil. Cook for an additional five minutes.
  4. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine white chocolate chips, marshmallow fluff, and heated mixture (either by hand or with a mixer). Mix until smooth.
  5. Pour all but a half-cup of pretzels and candy corn into fudge. Pour into the pan and spread out evenly. Top with remaining pretzels and candy corn.
  6. Let cool and set in the fridge for three to four hours. Cut into squares and enjoy!

2. Spider Cakes

Making these adorable spider cakes is ridiculously easy — even your kids can help make this Halloween snack!

What You’ll Need:

supplies on a counter to make diy spider cakes

Directions:

  1. Unwrap 10 of the Ding Dong type cakes and set aside.
  2. Cut your black licorice pieces in half. Depending on the type of licorice you find, you may be able to cut them in halves or even fourths to make smaller legs like I did. Set aside.
  3. Melt one piece of chocolate, and attach a set of googly eyes to each of your Ding Dong type cakes. Set aside.
  4. Taking your skewer or lollipop stick, poke four holes in each side of the Ding Dong cake and insert a piece of licorice.

Place finished spiders on cake stands or a platter. So easy, yet so cute!

3. Poison Toffee Apples Halloween Treats

Apples dipped in black toffee candy with bamboo skewers sticking out of them, sitting on a counter.

These black candied apples belong in a movie like Maleficent. These Halloween treats are both beautiful and creepy at the same time. Oh, and they taste great too.

What You’ll Need:

Directions:

  1. Place a greased parchment paper on a baking sheet.
  2. Insert bamboo skewers into all the apples and set aside.
  3. Combine sugar, water, corn syrup, and black food coloring in a saucepan over medium heat, simmering until the sugar is dissolved.
  4. Once dissolved, stop stirring and wash down the sides of the pot with a wet brush to prevent the sugar from falling into the caramel and causing it to crystallize.
  5. Cook the caramel until it’s reached the hard crack stage (150ºC/310ºF on a candy thermometer). To check if you’ve reached the hard crack stage without a candy thermometer, simply drop a little of the boiling sugar mixture into a glass of ice cold water. The sugar should form hard, brittle threads.
  6. Carefully dip the apples into the caramel mixture. Carefully tip the pan to the side, and swirl the apples into the candy mixture.
  7. Place on the prepared baking pan, and cool and harden before serving.

4. Open-Faced Deli Sandwiches with Silly Faces

A plate of open-faced deli sandwiches with ham and cheese shaped like silly faces.

This should be first on your list of Halloween food to make this year — it’s too easy! Use small Halloween cookie cutters ($10) to create the faces on slices of cheese, fresh dill for whiskers, and black olives for eyes.

You could leave them open-faced or top with bread for a traditional snack. Of course, swap the deli meat for turkey, ham, chicken, or whatever you like.

5. Marbled Red Eggs

Hard-boiled eggs with marbled food coloring patterns on them.

No doubt — these veiny, eyeball-looking eggs will capture people’s attention at your Halloween party. Make them into deviled eggs to impress their taste buds as well.

What You’ll Need:

Directions:

  1. Boil eggs to your liking, and rinse under cold water.
  2. Use two stain-resistant bowls, and add one food color to each — a few drops should do. Cover with enough water, and stir until dissolved.
  3. Lightly crack the boiled egg (don’t peel), and submerge it into the colored water so there’s one in each bowl.
  4. Set for at least 30 minutes, then rinse with fresh water.
  5. Peel the eggs, and prepare as you would for deviled eggs.

6.Monster Rice Krispie Halloween Treats

This is one of the simplest Halloween treats you can make — and your kids are going to love helping you create them! Make Rice Krispies Treats as you would normally, and cut them into rectangles. Add a few drops of your favorite food coloring to melted white chocolate melts ($5), dip the treat, and add googly eyes.

As a time-saver, you could buy pre-made, individually wrapped Rice Krispies Treats ($13) and dip them in green frosting ($2). Make sure to check these cereal coupons before you shop!

8. Hot Dog Mummies

hot dog wrapped in crescent roll dough to look like a mummy

We all know how fast pigs in a blanket go at a party. Imagine the thrill of eating these pastry-wrapped mummy dogs. Your Halloween party guests won’t be able to get enough of them! It’s basically Pillsbury Crescent Rolls wrapped around a hot dog to look like “bandages.” A dot of mustard or ketchup (in some geographic areas, ketchup on a hot dog is a no-no) represents the eyes.

I’ve made these before, and they’re a crowd pleaser. Plus, you’re able to substitute the dog with alternatives. If you do make beef, chicken, or plant-based options, be sure to serve them in separate containers (with different tongs) and label them.

What You’ll Need:

Directions:

  1. Place your cooled cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  2. Melt the candy melts and transfer to a pastry piping bag or Ziploc bag.
  3. Pipe the melted chocolate around the perforated top (a circle) of the Reese’s and quickly invert onto the cookie.
  4. Pipe two small dabs of chocolate on the side of the Reese’s, and place the candy eyes.
  5. Hand pipe eight “legs” onto the cookie. Let the chocolate harden before serving.

10. Voodoo Doll Cookies

Break out the Christmastime gingerbread cookie cutter, and make these adorably creepy cookie dolls. They were a big hit at the last Halloween party I attended.

What You’ll Need:

Directions:

  1. Bake and cool the cutout sugar cookies. Use any extra cookie dough for small heart cookies.
  2. Use the icing pens to design stitches, eyes, hearts, bandages, or really anything that makes these cookies look creepy.

11. No-Bake Halloween Treats: Pumpkin Cheesecake Truffle Mummies

no bake mummy pumpkin truffles on counter with supplies

Those eyes, though! Don’t let them creep you out too much — the pumpkin filling that lies beneath the white chocolate coating on these babies is to die (and come back to life) for! The best part is that they’re no-bake, so you can make these Halloween treats ahead.

What You’ll Need:

  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups white chocolate chips ($2)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

For Decorating:

  • Candy eyeballs
  • White chocolate chips

Directions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, graham cracker crumbs, softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, pumpkin pie spice, and vanilla extract. Mix until all the ingredients are well combined and the mixture is smooth.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Using your hands, roll the mixture into small truffle-sized balls and place them on the parchment paper. You should get about 20-25 truffles. Place the baking sheet in the freezer for about 30 minutes to firm up the truffles.
  3. While the truffles are in the freezer, melt the white chocolate chips. You can do this by placing the white chocolate chips and vegetable oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring each time until the chocolate is smooth and fully melted.
  4. Remove the truffles from the freezer. One at a time, dip each truffle into the melted white chocolate, ensuring it’s fully coated. Allow any excess chocolate to drip off, then place the coated truffle back on the parchment paper.
  5. Before the white chocolate sets, add two candy eyeballs to each truffle to create the mummy’s eyes. You can also use a toothpick to add some white chocolate drizzles over the truffles to resemble the mummy’s bandages.

Once all the truffles are coated and decorated, return them to the freezer for about 15 minutes to let the chocolate set.

12. Turn doughnuts into vampires with plastic fangs and Reese’s Pieces.

Fold over the plastic fangs ($1 for 12) and insert them into the center hole of the doughnut. Add Reese’s Pieces or M&M’s with a dot of decorating gel to make spooky eyes.

13. Make peanut butter and jelly spider sandwiches.

Sandwiches cut in circles with pretzel sticks and m&m's on them to make them look like spiders.

Maybe they aren’t your traditional Halloween treats, but they make a sweet addition to a party table!

Use a biscuit cutter or a drinking glass to cut bread into circles. Smear on peanut butter and jelly. Then insert eight pretzel sticks ($3) for creepy legs, and use a dab of peanut butter to attach two red M&M’s for the eyes.

To avoid any allergic reactions, use a tent card to label these as peanut butter. So everyone can enjoy the treats, make SunButter and jelly sandwiches and place them on a tray far away from the peanut butter ones.
