Buying Target clothes doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. When Target’s affordable clothes meet digital discounts meet sale prices, you’re in for a rush of money-saving adrenaline.

Pair that with a 365-day return policy on popular Target-owned brands like Cat & Jack, and let’s face it: you’re about to love Target even more.

Make sure you download the KCL app and bookmark our Target deals so you never miss out on the next great sale.

1. Keep your eye out for Target clothes on clearance.

Target clothes go on clearance as seasons and holidays change. I’ve found there’s no real schedule, as one store may mark down clothes on Mondays and another location on Wednesdays. Discounts normally start as low as 10% – 15% but can climb up to 70%.

The key is to wait till clothing hits a discount of at least 30%. At my store, once clothing reaches 50% off, it’s pretty picked over.

2. Stack app discounts with clearance prices on Target clothes.

App discounts typically work on full-priced Target clothes and on sale items (read the fine print). Then pay with your RedCard debit or credit card for another 5% off.

Occasionally, Target will have extra discounts on clearance that are valid both in stores and online. For example, in April 2022, Target had a 20% off discount valid on all clearance apparel. Also, look out for Target Circle offers like $10 off a $40 clothing purchase.

3. Check the Target clearance tag’s upper-right corner to verify your clothing discount.

Double-check your discount amount by looking at the top right-hand corner of the clearance tag on Target clothes. The number you see there is the percentage off a product’s original price.

Use this trick to avoid being surprised at the register for an item you grabbed off the wrong rack.

4. Look for Target baby clothes for over 30% off.

You don’t have to wait for a clearance find to save on Target baby clothes. They’ll often put baby, toddler, and kids’ dresses on a Target clothing sale starting at $5.94 (reg. $8+), and you’ll find bodysuits for $1.52 (reg. $2.50) and sleep & playsuit for $3.80 (reg. $5). These are the prices I keep in mind when shopping.

Best PriceRegular Price
Toddler Dresses$5.60$8
Kid Dresses$7$10
Baby Bodysuits$1.52$2.50
Sleep & Play$3$5
Footed Pajamas$2.06$4.33

5. Wait until you can get Target women’s clothes for at least 30% off.

I’ve never had a problem getting 30% off Target women’s clothes. Target will either do an automatic 30% off regular prices or there’ll be a Circle offer available — I don’t even have to wait for my items to go on clearance.

6. Don’t overpay for Target kids’ clothes like tees and shorts.

It’s not hard to save on Target kids’ clothes. I never buy my kids’ tees for more than $4, and I wait until girls’ leggings hit $4. Target back-to-school shopping is easy on the wallet too. Target will put school uniform clothing on sale and then offer a $10 off $40 Target Circle coupon. You can find Cat & Jack Uniform Pants for $7+ (reg. $12.99) and Cat & Jack Short-Sleeved Uniform Polo Shirt for $2.85 (reg. $4).

Cat & Jack Short-Sleeved Uniform Polo Shirt$2.85$4.00

7. Return Target clothing brands within one year for an exchange or refund.

If you’re not satisfied with any Target clothing brands, you have one year to return or exchange them, even if they’re used.

That means if the sweater gets pilly or the leggings get holes in the knees, you can take them back to customer service for an exchange or refund.

Here are some of the most popular Target-owned brands you’ll recognize:

A receipt or proof of purchase is required for returns or exchanges on worn Target brand items. And that makes sense, because otherwise there’d be nothing to keep folks from buying Target brands secondhand and exchanging them for new items.

The Target return policy is pretty nice. Luckily, Target tracks your purchases through your Target account or debit/credit card. So no sweat if you lose your receipt.

8. Price match brands like Fruit of the Loom at Target using the Amazon app barcode scanner.

The Target price match policy takes good care of shoppers. If the Amazon price is lower, Target will match it.

Amazon carries familiar Target brands like Fruit of the Loom which is free game for price matching.

You can also check most major retailers like Walmart and even Kmart. Target will honor the price from any main competitor (but not prices from wholesale or auction sites like eBay).

TIP: Pay close attention to the “Sold by” or “Fulfillment by” notation in these listings. If the item on Amazon or any other approved online retailer is not actually sold by that online retailer, Target is’t required to honor it.

9. Get a price-adjustment refund within 14 days of your Target clothes purchase.

Target will adjust the price of your purchase within 14 days. That means if you bought your kids’ coats before seeing that 30% off kids’ Circle offer on the Target app, you can get it adjusted.

Bring the coats back to the service counter, and ask to return them and buy them again with the discount. It’ll be a swift transaction, and you’ll walk out with 30% more money.

Target clothing sale adjustments can be made within 14 days, but you can return and repurchase most unused items within 90 days (or 120 days if purchased with your RedCard). And as mentioned before, any Target-owned brand can be returned for up to one year.
