Safeway has amended their new coupon policy, first posted about here.  I’m not irked about the change; I knew it was a likely change from the start.  And I’m still feeling grateful that Safeway published a public policy and got rid of their dumb 50% rule.  Hopefully they’ve got the only “kink” out and the policy will remain stable for awhile now!

The change comes for Rule #9, which previously allowed us to redeem, “valid Catalina manufacturer coupons that are issued to a customer by another retailer.”  Within the verbiage of this first draft rule, we were able to use Walgreens Register Rewards as well as Catalinas from Albertsons and other stores.

The new Rule #9 states, “Safeway will accept valid Catalina manufacturer coupon that is issued to a customer by another retailer only if such coupon is for a specific item.”

So, although we won’t be able to use our $10.00 catalinas and $5 Register Rewards, we will still be able to use item-specific Catalinas.  Example:  $2.00 off Folgers Coffee Catalina Coupon printed at Albertsons, with Albertsons logo, or $0.50/1 Dentyne Ice Gum Register Reward with Walgreens logo.  And Remember Rule #8 allows us to use any other manufacturer coupon with a competitor logo, such as a Manufacturer coupon for $1.00/1 Kashi Product with a Target logo, printed from Target.com.

New Just For U Coupon Site on Safeway.com

And, remember how Hawaii residents got the snub in Rules #23-#25?  Well, Safeway has launched a new program called Just For U, and it’s for Hawaii Residents Only!  There are over 150 eCoupons you can load from coupons.com and PGeSaver!  I’m totally jealous!  I signed up for the program with my CA zip code and the same coupons.com eCoupons were available to me in the Just For U area.  I prefer loading them from Just For U; there’s a great printable shopping list feature there that sorts them nicely!  You Hawaii ladies and gents definitely need to go check it out!  Fingers are crossed that maybe their testing this out in Hawaii and will consider expanding to the mainland!
