Extreme Couponing Tip: Calculating Price Per Ounce

Always compare price per unit to make sure you’re getting the best deal overall.

Though many stores list price per ounce/pound/unit on the price tag, if you have a coupon to factor in, you’ll need to know the how-to of calculating!

1. Take price of item minus the coupon value. (ex. cereal 16oz $3.00- $1.00/1 coupon= $2.00)
2. Divide this number by the total ounces in the package. (ex. $2.00 ÷ 16oz= 0.125)
3. Move the decimal over two places. This is the price per ounce. (ex. 0.125 => 12.5. So the cereal would be 12.5¢ an ounce)
