Extreme Couponing Tip: Use Every Coupon?
Many new couponers ask, “Do you use every coupon you get? If I don’t use each one, I feel like I’m wasting money!”
Krazy Couponers definitely do NOT use every coupon they get or clip! It’s tempting to use coupons the week you get them; it’s tempting to use them all by their expiration dates. But don’t give in! The average Krazy Couponer carries about three months’ worth of coupons in her coupon binder. Only use your coupons when you can pair them with a great sale and when it’s a product that your family uses or that you can donate.
Manufacturers and stores want you to use the coupons immediately on full retail priced items so they can get the biggest profit. This is a major reason that you’ll see the products on display the week that a new coupon comes out–to encourage impulse buys. Remember that just because an item is on prominent display (on an end cap or a colorful cardboard setup in the aisle) does NOT necessarily mean that it’s a stellar sale price!
Krazy Couponers won’t use the majority of the coupons they collect. They know that waiting for a rock bottom sale price to pair with a coupon is the only way to save big money. It can be sad to say goodbye to an expired coupon, especially a good one. But feel confident that your restraint will pay off in the long run. Also remember that you can donate your expired coupons to military families overseas who can use coupons up to six months past their expiration date!
