Extreme Couponing Tip: Expiration Date Worries

Stockpiling is a main tenet of being a Krazy Couponer. So how do you ensure that nothing expires before it gets used? Read below for some great tips!

  • Oldest in front. When adding items to your stockpile, make sure to put the oldest can, box, or package in the front and the newest in the back.
  • Date it. Write the expiration date in bold marker on the front of the package for easy reference. Remember that even personal care items like shampoo, deodorant, and make-up have Expiration and Best By dates.
  • Keep track. If you notice a product nearing its expiration date and you won’t be able to use it in time, donate to friends, neighbors, or a food bank. Check with your local food bank for expiration restrictions. For example, they may only accept products 3 months or more before their expiration date.
  • Careful buying. Keep in mind that when stockpiling, only buy as much as you will use or donate before the expiration date, even if the items are free.
