Start your New Year off right by having a party while saving money!
Decorate with the Dollar Store: party hats, favors, streamers, balloons, noisemakers, champagne flutes (glass singles or 2 pk plastic), glow sticks, napkins, disposable plates, cups & utensils, and serving trays & platter dishes.
Switch to cider: This year, switch sparkling cider and juices for costly wine. This will save money, include all ages (and those who are pregnant or choose not to drink), and there’s no need to appoint a designated driver! Offer a variety of flavors. Pomegranate, apple, grape, blueberry, pear, cherry, cranberry, and strawberry are some of the many great choices. Good brands include Welch’s, Knudsen, Meier’s, Martinelli’s, Kristian Regale, and Kedem. Look for hang-tag coupons around the necks of the bottles to save even more!
Make your own trays and platters: One of the most expensive mark-ups at the grocery store is on deli platters and fruit & veggie trays. Save money by cutting up your own, doing homemade cheese balls and adding your choice of crackers (that you bought with coupons, of course!). For chip dips, start with a container of sour cream, and add in a ranch dressing mix or vegetable soup packet or cooked, creamed spinach. For fruit dips, use yogurt, marshmallow creme, or cream cheese for your base, and flavor to your taste.
