Below are two situations where it could help to use a filler:
Evening up total items: At Walgreens, customers need to have at least as many items as manufacturer coupons (including Register Rewards). When purchasing one item and using one manufacturer coupon and one register reward, Â an extra item will be needed as part of this transaction in order to make the item total even.
Reaching a dollar amount: When using a coupon for $5 off a $50 purchase and there is just $49.75 worth of product in the cart, add an inexpensive filler item to reach the required total dollar amount. Another instance is if a store does not permit overage (the value of the coupon being over the dollar amount of the purchase total), a filler item may sometimes be needed to absorb the cost and keep the total from going below $0.
Need filler ideas? Consider these items: Pocket tissue packs, postcards, pencils, photos at the photo center, Sunday papers, individually wrapped candy, greeting cards, gum, erasers, or clearance items.
