My husband was very skeptical when I was coming home with more household items then we needed at that specific time.
He assumed this was just another shopping hobby of mine! But, I was on a mission to change his mind AND turn him into a coupon man!
These are the steps I took, and they worked like a charm:
A Guy’s Shopping Trip
I dedicated a shopping trip just for him (or at least made him think it was for him)! I walked into the house with my arms full of men's items like deodorant, body wash, razors, gum, etc. I actually got a smile!
Mother-in-Law Gift Basket
I made a gift basket for his Mommy (every man is still a Momma's Boy at heart)! I filled it up with all my money-saving items that I had in extra supply. I know dealing with the mother-in-law might not sound worth it, but stick to the bigger picture. I actually got a "thank you”!
Discounts on Favorite Products
I found a great coupon for an item that he could not live without! I was able to sign him up with his favorite company and they mailed him high value coupons! But, I made him go to the store to buy it AND use the coupon.
Create a little stockpile of manly garage items (such as wood glue, nails, duck tape, etc). I used coupons for some of these items and others were bought using my overage. These came in very handy last year when we were packing away our Christmas tree. As I was sitting on top of the box holding it in, he was searching the house for his duck tape, and then I yelled, "Oh honey, you need duck tape? Check my coupon closet!" After the box was closed up, he actually said "Thank you!"
Discount Date Night
That's all it took and now he is under my coupon spell! Together we go on coupon dates, first eating at our favorite restaurant with certificates we bought on Restaurant.com. Then we go to the movies where we earn points on our Regal Movie Card and save on candy with our mobile coupons. After that it's off to shop using our coupons from RetailMeNot to save money and add to our closets!
He is definitely a Coupon Man now!
