When coupons don't scan, policies aren't followed, or shelves are cleared, you can get upset. We've all been there and we understand! Follow these hints on how to cool off:
Play nice: Showing courtesy to cashiers and store employees is a great way to forge a good bond between couponers and the store. Everyone has bad days or gets tired at the end of their shift, so try to be understanding if they appear grumpy or unenthusiastic. Smile, ask them how their day is going, and always thank them for their help at the end. When you go out of your way to be kind, employees will likely go the extra mile.
Alternatives: Shelves empty? You could get frustrated and angry OR be proactive! Get a rain check, special order, try a different store location, or price match at Target or Walmart. Coupons not scanning? Have cashiers try a hand scanner; check out reasons why GS1 bar codes, low ink printing, and PDFs can run into problems; or take the coupon to another location.
Keep cool under pressure: This is key. When you run into a problem with your cashier or a manager, kindly explain how you know the policy to be and show them the policy printout. Never lose your temper or demand things go your way–-you'll lose the high ground. If things don't work out, simply walk out. If your store is not following a policy or you have a concern, call corporate when you're calm and collected.
