I’m an avid Amazon.com shopper. I mean, where else can you buy kitty litter, OPI nail polish and an HDTV all in one place without even having to leave your house? We all know about the discount programs like Amazon Mom and Amazon Student, and how to score free shipping with Amazon Prime. But did you know that there are lots of other ways to save big on Amazon.com?
1. Friday Sales
The Friday Sale on Amazon offers extreme discounts on over 100 items for one day only — every Friday, as the name implies! The Friday sale is a great place to find discounts on organic foods and beverages as well as coffee. For example, I scored 50 K-cups for my Keurig brewer for $26 shipped last summer! Fridays sales start at 12 a.m. PST, so be up and ready for them. The deals normally sell out fast, and once they’re gone, they’re gone!
2. Lightning Deals
If you’re lightning quick, you can save lots of money using Amazon’s Lightning Deals. This promotion offers extra savings on one single item — but only for four hours or until all offers are claimed. For example, Amazon just offered a $100 discount on an HDTV via their Lightning Deal. Really amazing deals will go fast, so be sure to use a fast browser like Chrome and close out of as many screens and devices on your computer as possible before you attempt to purchase your item. After all, you don’t want to see the dreaded “SOLD OUT” message!
3. Gold Box Deal of the Day
Every day Amazon offers a special discount on one item via the Gold Box Deal of the Day. And that special discount can be quite amazing — sometimes as much as 75 percent off the original price. Be sure to check the deal each day — you just might find something you need at a deep discount. One of Amazon’s recent Gold Box Deals of the day was a Jabra WAVE Bluetooth Headset, originally $79.99, for $34.99! If the Gold Box Deal of the Day gets sold out, choose the “Join the Wait List” option. In many cases, Amazon actually has more product available. Joining their wait list lets them know you are a serious buyer. I did this on Black Friday, and after sticking around the page for about 15 minutes, I got a popup from Amazon offering me the deal!
Just like you scour the clearance bins at your favorite stores, you can search through Amazon’s Clearance section for some amazing deals — anywhere from 10 to 90 percent off! To get there, just click on the department you want. Scroll down the left side of the screen until you see a category that says “Discount.” Select one of the percentage-off links to see what items are in each category. Some examples:
Be aware that not all clearance deals are actually good deals. Use a free browser plug-in like Camelizer for Firefox or Chrome which will chart price changes at trends so you can make sure you are getting the lowest possible price.
5. Deals and Bargains
The Deals and Bargains section is your one-stop spot for some amazing markdowns, special promotions and sales on Amazon. For example, I found a Brother label maker, originally $79.99, marked down to $39.50! I also scooped up a Targus Slim Case for my iPad worth $49.99 for only $12.24! The deals change often, so be sure to check the page regularly. If you don’t have time to scour the deals section, subscribe to Amazon Delivers, which will send the deals right to your inbox.
