Best Buy is like a candy store to my husband. His eyes get all glazed over and practically pop out of his head as soon as he walks through the doors. Although I love to see my husband happy, I don't always love the price tags on those electronic items. Fortunately, I have found lots of ways to save money at Best Buy—which keeps both me and my husband happy!

1. Score Student Deals

If you are a college student and have a “.edu” email address, you can sign up for Best Buy's College Student Deals. What are the perks of signing up? You'll get exclusive coupons and specials (deals are typically 10 to 20% off store purchases) sent right to your inbox. You can either print these coupons and take them to your local Best Buy or enter the promotional code when you check out on Best Buy's website.

2. Check for Open-Box products

Open-Box items are products that used to be display models, have been returned by costumers, or have been opened because the original packaging was damaged. All of the Open-Box items have been tested, inspected, and are covered by the same warranty as their unopened counterparts. But there's one difference! Open-Box products are discounted—sometimes deeply discounted—because they've been opened. My husband got $50 off a laptop just because it was an Open-Box item!

3. Take advantage of price-match policies

Shop around at other stores before you head into your Best Buy. If you find a lower price, bring in the local store's ad and Best Buy will match the price. They'll even match the price if you find a better deal on Best Buy's website or on another online retailer's site like,, and

4. Reap the rewards

Sign up for Best Buy's loyalty program, My Best Buy. It's absolutely free and you'll get $5 back for every $250 you spend. You can redeem your certificates in-store or online. As a member, you'll also get free shipping on online orders valued at at least $25, sneak peeks at future sales, and members-only special offers and savings.

5. Use site-to-store pickup

Don't waste your money on shipping costs! Take advantage of's free in-store pickup. If you can't find a particular item in your local store, buy it online and have it shipped to your store absolutely free. Is your purchase a gift? Use the "Friends and Family Pickup" option to have the item sent to another store where the recipient can pick it up at no cost.

6. Shop online

Peruse for amazing online-only prices—and no, you can't usually find the prices in your local store. I was able to save over $45 on an iPod by using their website. But that's not all! Check out's Clearance, Deal of the Day and Featured Offers sections to save even more!
