If you’re like me, you’re committed to saving money at the grocery store. You plan meals based on store sales, you stack manufacturer and digital coupons, and you buy the brands with the best deals (including the store brands). When our family started using these strategies, we cut our monthly grocery bill by almost 50%! I loved the extra money in my wallet, but I was missing my favorite products.

Do your children have a particular breakfast cereal they’re crazy about? Is your day made sweeter with your favorite diet soda in the can? These products can be expensive and can break your carefully planned budget—but you don’t have to say “no” to your favorites.

With a little organization, the help of TheKrazyCouponLady.com, and handy smart phone apps like Flipp, I have found a way to save and splurge—and you can, too!

Follow these 5 easy steps:

1. Download the smart phone app Flipp.

Learn more about Flipp here. With this app, you can search for brands and items across many local grocery and drugstore circulars at once.

2. Make a short list of “splurge” products that you and your family love.

Decide what price you’re willing to spend for each item on your splurge list. This is your personal “splurge deal” price. For example, I’m willing to pay up to $4.00 for a 12-pack of Diet Coke (over 40% savings off of the regular retail price), but I’ve found deals for as little as $2.50! Once you have this list, a big part of the organizing is done.

3. Every week, once the major advertising circulars come out, look up your splurges on Flipp.

Search for the brand name instead of the specific product name. For example, if I search for “Diet Coke,” I may only pull up one advertised deal on Flipp, but if I search for “Coca Cola,” I may pull up many offers, which I can use for a Diet Coke deal. “Clip” these deals in the app.

4. Once you find sales deals on Flipp, search The Krazy Coupon Lady’s coupon database.

Look for printable, newspaper, and digital coupons such as Ibotta, SavingStar, and Checkout 51. It’s so easy! If the final price including coupons reaches your “splurge deal” price, then add the item to your shopping list!!

5. Use your Flipp “clipped” deals at Walmart

If you shop at Walmart like I do, then you can use your Flipp “clipped” deals to price match, or you can just enter your receipt into their Savings Catcher in the Walmart app or in your account on their website. They will give you the difference in the form of a Walmart gift card.

If you stock up when prices are low, you’ll never have to pay full price for your favorite splurges again.

Save and splurge! It’s like having your cake and eating it, too—literally!
