Not all brands have prices and sales that can compete with retailers that sell their products — think of that mattress you got way cheaper on Amazon — but some do. I bet you’ll be surprised which brands you should buy direct from, skipping the retailers. I know I was!

1. Buy your Casper mattress from Casper to save $170.

An original queen Casper mattress was just $931 on Casper’s website recently, while the exact same mattress (down to the model and year) was $1101 from Costco or Amazon. That’s $164 in savings.

Basically, shop Casper straight from the brand so you can sleep easy when you don’t overpay.

2. Wait for the 20% off email and buy directly from Steve Madden.

I was surprised to find out that it actually is cheaper to buy from — at least when you sign up for their emails and texts for the first time. (Yes, both are required. But you can always unsubscribe after your first purchase if you’re not interested in future SM promotions.)

When you enter your email, you’ll get a 20% off coupon that rivals any sales you might find elsewhere. I looked at 10+ different styles — like the Amulet bejeweled black booties, which are $103.96 after the 20% discount and taxes (reg. $129.99) — and all were cheaper with that discount on the Steve Madden website than any other website.

3. Buy Keurig’s single-serve mini coffee makers straight from the source.

You’ll save when you buy a K-Mini Single Serve Coffee Maker from Keurig instead of Target or elsewhere.

Big-box stores have Keurig K-Minis listed for $89.99, while has it listed for $79.99 — though I’ve frequently seen it go as low as $63.99. That’s a savings of 20%, or 16 extra dollars in your pocket.

4. Wait to buy Alexa and other tech devices on Amazon Prime Day(s).

On Amazon Prime Day 2020 (Oct. 13 – 14), a third-generation Echo Dot was just $18.99. Normally, they’re $39.99 at any vendor — Walmart, Target, Best Buy — and rarely go on sale.

Another year-round hack is signing up for an Amazon Visa credit card. You’ll automatically get a reward (usually $70 – $100), which would pay for the Echo Dot and then some.

5. Visit Hydro Flask’s sale page for up to 25% off their merch.

Hydro Flasks’s sale page features their reusable water bottles, lids, and accessories for up to 25% off.

A 21-ounce Hydro Flask bottle was recently going for $26.96 (normally $35.95). Meanwhile, when I checked on Amazon, the same bottle was a whopping $52.67 and regularly priced at other retailers like REI, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Walmart.

6. Save hundreds when you buy a vacuum during a Dyson sale.

The Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute Lightweight Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner was listed on Amazon for $594.99 but just $399.99 on That’s $200 cheaper!

While this isn’t always the case — Dyson was running a special sale — it’s common to find specials on Dyson’s website. Basically, just make sure you check out Dyson’s deals page before buying a new vacuum.

7. Shop Kate Spade during one of their amazing seasonal sales.

Kate Spade recently ran a 60% off sale styles promo on their website (with code EARLYBIRD), which is a pretty hefty discount on the late designer’s feminine and classic accessories.

The discount was sitewide and had few exclusions, which is great (so often sales are limited to last season’s stuff). Meanwhile, Kate Spade products were full priced at both online and brick-and-mortar vendors like ShopBop, Macy’s, Dillard’s and elsewhere. Boo!

I say sign up for Kate Spade emails to make sure you don’t miss a sale.

8. Get a Findster directly from the maker to save $30.

If you’ve considered investing in Finder’s GPS Pet Tracker and Pet Activity Monitor for your furry friend, definitely do so on Findster’s website.

The device is $30 cheaper on than, and comes with a 30-day free trial of the Findster Care Membership (normally $3.99/month).

9. Take advantage of Dr. Martens 15% student discount.

Dr. Martens rarely go on sale — even at Famous Footwear or DSW — but students save 15% when they shop directly from the Doc.

The brand will be the first to put one of their styles on sale so, student or not, Doc fans: always check Dr. Martens website before splurging.

10. Shop Cricut during Black Friday for its best-ever sales.

If you’ve been waiting for the right time to make a Cricut purchase, Black Friday is it! When you catch the right deals in November, you can save as much as 48% on the popular Cricut Explore Air 2 Machine, as well as Cricut bundles — plus nab free shipping.
