The combination department-grocery-store feel mixed with the ease of smartphone couponing makes Meijer a favorite for midwest shoppers. But even there, in-demand items like toilet paper and cleaning products have big “out of stock” banners across them. Meijer stores have addressed the inventory concern and have put new policies in place to try to combat the empty shelves.

Before you plan your next trip or grocery delivery, here are some helpful tips for shopping Meijer during the coronavirus pandemic:

Meijer hours

New Meijer updated hours have been put in place for stores, pharmacies, and Express locations:

  • Meijer stores are open 8 a.m – 10 p.m daily.
  • Meijer pharmacies are open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. and 8 or 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. Friday. Check your local Meijer pharmacy hours because they may vary.
  • Meijer Express locations are open 8 a.m. – 10 p.m. daily.

Note that pay-at-the-pump fuel remains available 24 hours a day.

Senior shopping hours

  • 7 a.m. – 8 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays is reserved for senior citizens, pregnant women, and customers with chronic health conditions.
  • 7 a.m. – 8 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays is reserved for essential service workers including all medical workers, first responders, and law enforcement, as well as Meijer team members.

Meijer supply and shopping limits

While I wasn’t able to pinpoint an official policy, an employee confirmed that some locations are limiting high-demand items like dairy, meat, and household essentials to one to three per transaction. Check for postings at your store since the limitations seem to vary.

Supply restocks

Meijer is continuously working to restock stores overnight. Along with the modified shopping hours, Meijer stores have closed full-service operations at the meat, seafood, and bulk-salad stations in stores. These changes allow more more time to restock shelves when needed.

Returns

All returns — including recalls, exchanges, and deposit refunds — will not be accepted through at least April 16. If the window for something you need to return or exchange expires during this time, you’ll still be able to return within 120 days.

Meijer pharmacy and prescriptions

Unfortunately, prescriptions at Meijer need to be picked up in person.

Seniors, pregnant women, and customers who are chronically ill should use the designated shopping time of 7 a.m. – 8 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays to pick up medications.

Meijer pickup and delivery

Meijer online ordering for pickup and delivery is available and is pretty darn great. Meijer pickup and home delivery offers standard rates instead of membership fees, the option to use coupons, and the same prices and deals offered in store.

Pickup

Meijer Pickup is $4.95 per order. Choose a store and pickup time that suits you. Normally, same-day pickup is available in as little as an hour, but order fulfillment is currently delayed and may occur after the time you requested. If this is the case, your shopper will reach out to coordinate timing as they begin your order.

Delivery

Meijer Home Delivery is $9.95 per order. Normally, same-day delivery is available in as soon as an hour. Order fulfillment is currently delayed as well, so your requested delivery time may need to be rescheduled. Your shopper will reach out to you about timing if there’s a delay.

Shop & Scan

A third option that offers minimal contact is Meijer Shop & Scan. Download the Meijer Mobile app and tap Shop & Scan from the “more” menu. Scan items and bag as you go, then scan the QR code at a self checkout stand to pay. Just don’t forget to bring your own bags or grab Meijer bags from the front before shopping. If you choose reusable bags, be sure to wash them after each use.

Meijer jobs and staffing

Meijer is currently hiring for short-term and permanent jobs. Check out the Meijer careers page to see what openings are available in your area.

Current Meijer employees are deemed essential and continue to work. To ensure their safety and the safety of customers, employees who are quarantined or confirmed positive with coronavirus will stay home and will continue to be paid.
