Here are some helpful tips for shopping Walmart during the coronavirus pandemic:

Walmart hours

Walmart hours have been adjusted in response to the coronavirus. They’ve even shut down their auto centers so that those employees can assist with restocking and cleaning.

Walmart Supercenters and Walmart Neighborhood Markets are currently only open 7:00 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. in order to restock shelves and thoroughly clean shop.

Senior shopping hours

Through April 28, Walmart stores will open one hour earlier on Tuesdays for seniors aged 60 and older to shop.

Walmart supply and shopping limits

Hand sanitizer and toilet paper are in high demand at Walmart (and pretty much everywhere else). To combat empty shelves, Walmart has set limits for customers in certain categories, including:

  • eggs
  • paper products
  • milk
  • hand sanitizer
  • water
  • cleaning supplies
  • wipes
  • diapers
  • formula
  • baby food

Supply restocks

Although shelves at Walmart don’t look nearly as full as they did just a couple weeks ago, Walmart has stated that restocking trucks are coming daily to stores to replenish as much as possible. With stores closing overnight, employees are able to restock high-demand items as soon as they arrive.

There hasn’t been an official change to the Walmart return policy, but shoppers are reporting limits on returns. As with many policies, return limitations vary by location and are at individual store managers’ discretion. Call your local Walmart for details.

Walmart pharmacy and prescriptions

There have been no changes to the Walmart pharmacy since coronavirus, but if you need a prescription, Walmart offers certain generics for just $4.

Next time you need a prescription refill, ask your provider to send your prescription to your local Walmart pharmacy. Check Walmart’s $4 generic list before you go.

Save on 30-day generic medications and spend just $10 on 90-day prescriptions — no insurance necessary.

Walmart pickup and delivery

Walmart grocery pickup is completely free, but due to high volume in ordering, time slots for pickup may be limited. Plan on scheduling your grocery pickup two days out, and for the best chance of getting on the schedule, try to pick up orders in the morning.

For non-grocery items, Walmart offers same-day pickup within four hours of ordering (this is under normal circumstances, and pickup times may be delayed due to high volume).

You can also order Walmart pickup items that will ship to store for free. And like grocery pickup, pickup times may be delayed. For faster service when you get to the store to pick up your item, check in on the Walmart app.

Walmart grocery delivery is free when you sign up for a 15-day trial of Delivery Unlimited. There’s no commitment to continue paying once the trial is over, and you can cancel anytime. With Walmart grocery delivery, you can choose a time and day for your order to be delivered; however, expect delays in some locations.

Get free Walmart delivery for online purchases of $35 or more. At this time we’re seeing some delays — at least seven days if items are in stock. If items are delayed, you’ll receive notification from Walmart.

Walmart jobs and staffing

On Mar. 23, Walmart announced their plan to hire 150,000 full-time, part-time, and temporary associates for distribution and fulfillment centers in an effort to meet store needs. Not only that, but Walmart stated they would be expediting hires, with the possibility of getting people to work within as little as 24 hours of applying.

For existing employees, Walmart will be paying $300 and $150 bonuses for hourly associates that will be paid out on April 2.
