Thank you for taking your time to contact our Corporate Offices. We appreciate hearing from our customers and value all comments received.

Unfortunately, we do not have a coupon policy.

Again, thank you for contacting our corporate office. We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your comments.

Aren’t you glad that I took the time to post that? So helpful, right?

Here is what we have found as far as coupon acceptance at Walgreens:

  • Walgreen’s will tell you that their policy is to follow the guidelines printed on the individual coupons.
  • 1 Walgreens and 1 manufacturer coupon can be used for the same item, unless either coupon prohibits it.

Q. What happens if the Manufacturer coupon’s value is more than the retail value? A. Walgreens does not provide cash back, but the coupon can be adjusted down.

Q. Can managers limit the number of items being purchased? A. Managers have the right to limit the quantities on all advertised items.

What! How can they not have a policy? Sounds like a bunch of malarkee!
How can a company that ISSUES coupons not have a coupon policy?
    Thanks for the information KCL.

So my local Walgreens manager has been having issue lately with the “one per transaction” vs. “one per purchase” debate. He will only let me use one of any individual coupon per transaction. So frustrating! I emailed corp last week to get an offical policy response but never got one…so this must be why.

What can I do to set my manager straight?

    • Laurie says:

      Hi-
The same thing happened to me last night. So frustrating…. The cashier told me their manager told them that they could only take 1 coupon per transaction. I called 1-800 Walgreens to complain. Why does it seem like no one at Walgreens has the correct information or is this a new policy? Anyhow the Manager called me back today and told me that we can use more than 1 coupon per transaction as long as each item is different. He also said they were told they can’t do more that 1 of the same coupon in 1 transaction. For instance I wouldn’t be able to buy 5 tide detergents and have 5 manufacturers coupons (1 for each. They would have to have separate transactions for each. This makes absolutely no sense at all since it requires a lot more work on their part. The manager was very nice and he is frustrated as well but has said this new policy has been given to him and each employee had to sign a paper with this information. I told him that I would like to talk with the person who has implemented this policy to see why and see documentation on their reasoning. this guy was very nice and is going to forward my information on to higher up people. We’ll see what happens.

Well first of all, how about you get a life?? why call corp on a person just trying to make a living??? Just find out how you need to use the coupon, and do it? where is the issue there, other then you?? Remember, these managers could be a relative, son, daughter. Every coupon i have seen lists whats allowed, or not allowed. Follow it and chill, life will be ok :)

    • KitKat says:

This is false information. Read you manfacturer coupons. What is stated above is incorrect…. you CANNOT receive cash back on these. Walgreens does have a coupon policy. You can walk into any store and ask.

You must understand that the manufacturer allows retailers to offer the service. If the retailer abuses the system, they will lose their right to offer the service. Keep this in mind when you go into stores and they tell you that they have a policy.

      • Samantha White says:

I walked into my local Walgreen’s yesterday and asked to see the coupon policy.

Then manager told me the public is not allowed to see this as it is a part of Walgreen’s internal training program. She told me to go look on the internet for Walgreen’s coupon policy.

I should also tell you, this manager was very snotty about the whole thing. She acted as if I were asking for “corporate secrets” when I inquired about Walgreen’s official coupon policy!

  3. Nicole Guzman says:

Walgreens is horrible for coupon shopping compared to Rite Aid. Today I had a coupon that created an overage, and they REFUSED to take it. I asked them to adjust it down, and they said they weren’t allowed due to “corporate policy.” Obviously that was a total lie since there isn’t a policy!!! It’s going to take an excellent, excellent deal to get me back through their doors.

    • john says:

If you use the register rewards correct, and in the right order. You could walk out with free items every week. Good enough deal for me:) Other companies are using this same process, I suggest you look over all the ad’s in the paper and have a great time shopping for very little. Hey, you can even do it while you smile:) Everyone is soooo negative anymore, everytime I have had an issue. I am very polite to management, and they do plenty to help me out. So try humor, and being nice. Not demanding or you put people on defense, then good luck getting what you want.

      • KitKat says:

You are correct. You get more flies with honey than with vinegar. If a customer is understanding of the limitations that these companies have, managers will do what they can to help. Try to put yourself in their shoes. How would you feel if customer made demands and tried to walk all over you all day long. It really does put you on the defense.

        Great post, John. Thanks

      • Billy says:

Please help! I am still trying to understand the RR thing. I am wondering what you mean by “the right order.” Is there an order that I should be using, please?

    • KitKat says:

Again…. read the coupon. No cash value and the customer is responsible for sales tax.

    My recent experiences.

    S E C O N D R E Q U E S T OCTOBER 8, 2009

FIRST SENT ON OR ABOUT SEPTEMBER 5, 2009

Recently, I have had two Walgreen’s associates refuse to accept more than one manufacturer coupon for items which I was purchasing. I had two coupons for Zantac and the associate would not let me use the second coupon while purchasing two Zantac items. The associate stated that she could only accept one coupon for identical items in my total purchase. I have made thousands of purchases using coupons at Walgreens in the last 37 years and only recently have I experienced this problem. The following was copied from CouponMom.com and has been an accepted standard for as long as I can remember.

“One coupon per purchase”: This means that shoppers can use one coupon per item, with the item considered to be the purchase. For example, if a shopper had 10 identical jars of spaghetti sauce and 10 grocery coupons for that spaghetti sauce, she could use all 10 coupons for her order, which is literally 10 purchases. She could not use 2 manufacturers coupons on the same item if she was only buying one jar of spaghetti sauce because that would be more than “one coupon per purchase.”

Last week, at the same Walgreens Store with another associate the following day, I purchased 3 St. Josephs aspirin, 2 Tylenol Cold items, 2 Benadryl items, 2 Zantac items, and 2 Blue Bell items in one transaction. I had a total of 11 manufacturer coupons, 1 coupon for each item purchased, and a $5 off $25 coupon. The associate scanned each item, scanned the 11 manufacturer coupons, scanned the $5 off $25 coupon, scanned 2 each $5 Register Rewards, and gave me change for $60 tendered. It is obvious that Walgreens POS System has been programmed to accept 1 coupon for each item purchased.

Please respond to this email by providing me with a copy of or a statement regarding Walgreens Policy for the one coupon per purchase statement found on many manufacturers’ coupons.

Thank you in advance for your help in clarifying this matter.

first for me this past week. you know those walgreens monthly coupon booklets? are they manufacturer’s coupons, or store coupons? every blog i read, it is supposed to be a store coupon, stackable with manufacturer’s coupons. however, i tried getting the revlon deal this week, i needed lipstick! they were bogo 50% off, $2 coupon off one (*2) and 2 of those wags books. could not stack!! called manager, said because they have to turn those into the clearing house, they could not stack. i argued with her, because it was a wags store coupon. wtf? really, is this true?!! ridiculous!!

    • Kris says:

I have had this exact problem so many times! Recently, however, I saw in their ad a phrase that changed it all for me. It was showing a razor on sale, then showed the price, less the coupon book coupon, then said off to the side, “Use manufacturer coupon found in Sunday’s paper” or something like that. When I went to buy the razor, it beeped when I tried to use both coupons, so I whipped out their ad, showed them what it said, and the manager came and forced it through. That’s the only time I’ve gotten it to work for me. I would suggest watching the ad and when you see one of those scenarios, keep the ad and use it anytime this issue comes up!

      • Cathy says:

What a great idea! I didn’t even think about it. Lately when I have more coupons than the number of items, they keep telling me I have to buy something else. But if their book says that, they can’t make you purchase something you don’t want just to use the coupon. Good thinking!

    • KitKat says:

      Tamika,

Look at the top of the coupon. If it says manufacturer coupon, then the store is correct. If it says store coupon, then I would go a step higher. As a customer, you are looking for the best deal. We all are with todays economy. However, sometimes the stores do have limitation.

Everyone here needs to understand that there are people out there that completely abuse the system and often try to fraud retailers with fake coupons, fraudulent refunds etc. Unfortunately, it ruins it for everyone else. Company’s are in business to service customers but if they don’t make any profit, they will go out of business.

  6. Karla says:

I have been told at both of our locals Walgreens that they are no longer taking black and white internet coupons. Is this the “new” policy every where or just at my local stores? Is everyone printing in color now?

  7. Kristina says:

How is it a store that has a coupon book and coupon days does not have a coupon policy? And they are definatly not coupon friendly. I think I will pass on Walgreens.

  8. Jenny says:

I had an issue today at Walgreens. I purchased a razor and used my manufacturer coupon. I was going to purchase 4 today. The sales clerk told me that I could only get 1 register reward per day. So I opted not to get the other razors. I bought the one. I did some other running around and came back to Walgreens. I bought another razor. The same girl was on the register. She put my receipt in the bag. After I left, I checked my receipt and she didn’t give me another register reward. I was wondering what the corporate policy was on the register rewards? And she told me that if I was using two coupons (the register reward along with the manufacture coupon) I had to purchase two items.

    • Heather says:

Did you use your first Register Reward to pay for the Second Transaction that you bought?

Here is the deal with Wags.
      1. You do have to have as many items as coupons. So if you are paying with a RR and a manufacturer coupon, and only buying 1 Razor, the Register will not allow both coupons to be scanned. In this case, you will need to add in a filler item (anything will work, I use the $0.39 caramels that are buy the registers)
      2. If you use the first RR to pay for another Razor, a new RR with NOT print. \

      Make sense?

    • Kitkat says:

Look at the back of the Walgreens flyer. There is a disclaimer regarding coupons.

  9. Dana says:

The internet coupon acceptance is store specific. We have 2 here and one will accept printed coupons and the other will not. I have never had an issue with any other coupon scenarios. I have used 2 coupons (one manufaturer and one store) on the same product, and multiple coupons for multiples of the the same product. I have also used multiple RR’s in a single transaction.

  10. Jenn says:

I work at walgreens… It depends on the store/district that you go to… the policy is adjusted according to the specific problems, or issues that the store or district has, and also depends on the laws in the state that you are in. At our store we have had many issues with people getting the register reward items, in multiples, then returning the product at another store, but keeping the register rewards… we have many issues with coupons, and people trying to fraud the system… which makes it bad for those of us who follow the rules, because then the stores/districts are forced to implement new rules to protect themselves, and therefore make it hard on those of us who want to snatch up all of these great deals! I can assure you, at least of all of the Walgreens that I have worked in… (about 10 across the country) None of the employees are trying to be mean when they refuse a coupon or a sale… they are just following the guidelines handed down to them by upper mgt…. it’s important that the employees follow these rules, or they can be written up or fired, so really, they are just protecting themselves. To many of these cashiers and assistant managers, their jobs are their livelihood, and who would want to risk everything they have, just by taking a coupon they were asked not to take. Usually, if you remain calm, and kind to the PERSON helping you, they will do whatever they can to make you happy…. If they cannot do this without risking their employment, then maybe they will say no, but we have to remember what is at stake for them. Now, don’t get me wrong, I have been into some stores with some snooty cashiers, but we have to try to remember… everyone has their bad days… as we are all human. I personally have never heard of this one coupon of the same type in a certain transaction deal, but maybe thats something that they have been made to enforce due to some issue they are having. I would contact the store manager (not an assistant) of that particular store, and ask them why they are implementing this rule. Sorry for my book! LOL.. And THANK YOU Krazy coupon Ladies for making my life so much easier, and taking all of the guess work out of couponing for me! I LOVE YOUR WEBSITE!

  11. Katie says:

I work at walgreens. As of 8/26/2010, walgreens has a coupon policy! Of course, some items are subject to limits, and manager’s discretion. Best thing for couponers though, you can use two coupons on a buy one get one sale…up to the value of the item you are paying for! Awesome!
