I haven’t been able to get the people of Haiti off my mind today. Thousands are feared dead and hundreds, if not more are still trapped, barely alive in the aftermath of the 7.0 earthquake that hit a major Hatian city on Tuesday. Just this past Sunday, an earthquake of 6.5 hit very near where I live in Northern California. My community was very blessed to receive hardly any damage. But when the quake hit and I ran to gather my children, I got a tiny taste of the fear that goes through your mind when you don’t know if your house is going to come toppling down on top of you and your babies.
I know that I can not save those thousands of lives; I know I can’t even save one, but I’m not going to worry about what I cannot do. I’m just going to do what I can and I’d like to encourage you to do the same. Heather and I are pledging to donate an initial $200 to the Red Cross International Response Fund. If you have the means we hope you’ll make a donation in any amount.
Donate to the Red Cross International Response Fund.
Krazy Coupon Lady will match your donations, up to another $200. Please, leave a comment with the amount you chose to donate and we’ll match it. Donate via Text: Text ‘Haiti’ to 90999, to donate to the Red Cross.
We are also donating all proceeds from our book, Pick Another Checkout Lane, Honey, beginning last Tuesday, the day of the earthquake, until a week from today, January 21st to the Red Cross.
Don’t have cash, but still wish you could give?
The Red Cross discourages donations of goods. Read more here.
Have, toothbrushes, toothpaste and bars of soap coming out your ears? One organization that will accept donations such as these is the LDS Humanitarian Relief Fund.
This is a religious organization, but the program provides disaster relief and humanitarian aid without denominational bias. View the recent charitable activities of this organization by world map, here.
They deliver Hygiene Kits to disaster victims who have lost everything.
Drop off at local church, who will get it to the Humanitarian Relief Fund. Find a church building here. Call your local Deseret Industries to see if they accept products for Humanitarian Kits. Or mail completed kits directly to the Humanitarian Center.
