These 12 Stores Are Just Like Hobby Lobby, With Savings to Boot

We know crafters love to debate the merits of Hobby Lobby vs. Joann vs. Michaels, but there are actually far more stores like Hobby Lobby out there than might first come to mind. That’s because you can find Hobby Lobby deals on all kinds of stuff — not just fabric, yarn, and other crafting accoutrement. 

They have a robust selection of home decor and you can even find furniture at Hobby Lobby (it’s always 30% off). But then there’s tons of knick-knacks like crystal figurines, as well as books, toys, and seasonal decorations. 

So if you still hold a grudge because they discontinued their 40% off coupon, there are stores like Hobby Lobby out there that can still scratch that itch.

If you shop Hobby Lobby for fabric, try Joann.

In our humble opinion, the fabric department at Joann rivals that of the one in Hobby Lobby. Now this may vary a bit depending on the location, but Joann has a wide array of different fabrics ranging from fleece to home decor fabric. You can even order fabric from Joann online if you’re not interested in going into the store, just know that you’ll pay $7.99 for shipping if your order is under $75. However, Joann does have free curbside and in-store pickup options (Hobby Lobby does not), if you want to go that route.

Save more: Joann regularly offers coupons, like 50% off a regular-priced item, with a single cut of by-the-yard fabric equaling one item. But beyond that, you’ll also see savings opportunities like “Buy a bolt of 24 yards and save an additional 15%.” So there are plenty of fabric deals to be had here. 

If you shop Hobby Lobby for picture frames, try Michaels.

So, listen, the Michaels sale schedule isn’t anywhere near as consistent as the Hobby Lobby sale schedule, which is like a well-oiled machine, however they do frequently put picture frames on sale. And their picture frame inventory is pretty massive, with all kinds of sizes, colors, styles and whatnot. Michaels, like Hobby Lobby, also has an entire custom framing department if that’s something that tempts you. 

Save more: Look for promotions and sales at Michaels that feature B1G1 free picture frame deals. In fact, go a step further and wait until Michaels’ Lowest Prices of the Season sales, which happen a couple times of year typically in March and July, when they have B1G2 free frames. Are picture frames full price when you hit up Michaels? Go in armed with a Michaels coupon, which range from 25 - 50% off a regular priced item depending on what’s currently available on their coupon page.

If you shop Hobby Lobby for paint supplies, try Blick Art Materials.

You may not be as familiar with Blick’s because they only have 60 brick-and-mortar stores nationwide, as opposed to roughly 1000 Hobby Lobby locations. However don’t count them out, because their website is super shoppable. You’ll find a slew of different types of paint here, as well as canvases of every size and type and their prices are comparable to that of Hobby Lobby. Plus, they always offer free shipping on orders of $59+, as opposed to Hobby Lobby which only offers free shipping on Sundays for $50+ orders. 

Save more: There are savings opportunities at Blick’s. First of all, during the month of April you’ll find their anniversary sale, during which you can earn a $10 - $20 store gift card depending on how much you spend in a transaction. They regularly have “gifts with purchase” offers, like a free carrying case if you buy a tabletop easel, etc. And the Blick’s clearance section features savings of up to 74%. 

If you shop Hobby Lobby for party supplies, try Oriental Trading Company. 

Do not sleep on the treasure trove of party supplies that is Oriental Trading Company. This online-only operation isn’t one of the stores like Hobby Lobby in a traditional sense, but they do have crafts and party supplies that fit a countless number of themes. And then often have free shipping on $35+ orders (though not always, so double check before you make a purchase to avoid exorbitant fees). 

Save more: Yes, there are ways to save at Oriental Trading Company, otherwise they wouldn’t be on this list. Look to their “Flo’s Dollar Deals” section, which offers savings of up to 77%. Items in this section include party favors, kids crafts for parties, stickers, and more. If you find a better price on an identical product somewhere else within 30 days of your Oriental Trading Company purchase, they will refund you 110% of the difference.

If you shop Hobby Lobby for kids crafts, try Dollar Tree.

Hear us out — Dollar Tree may not have the more extensive boxed craft kits that Hobby Lobby offers, but there is a ton of opportunity here at their $1.25 price point. You can find cheap craft supplies like ribbon, feathers, beads, craft sticks, and fabric swatches. Plus they do have smaller paintable craft kits suitable for kids. 

Save more: You can use manufacturer’s coupons at Dollar Tree, although it may be difficult to find any that match the crafty items you’ll find here. However perhaps if there’s an Elmer’s Glue coupon or something of the like there’s an opportunity to knock some change off of the $1.25 price point, which is pretty darn good as it is. Additionally, we recommend shopping Dollar Tree in-store as opposed to ordering online to avoid their shipping fees, which start at $4.99.

If you shop Hobby Lobby for jewelry-making supplies, try Craft Supply Depot. 

Craft Supply Depot doesn’t have any brick-and-mortar stores, they’re an online-only business. But they offer a lot of jewelry-making supplies you may need for crafting, like beads, charms, clasps, earrings, and tools, among other things. They carry items from other craft categories, too. But their jewelry inventory feels the most robust.

Save more: This is a small business, so there’s no such thing as free shipping at Craft Supply Depot. They do, however, ship orders using the most economical way available, whether that be via UPS or USPS. It’s also tough to find coupons or discounts for this particular store. They don’t exactly offer special discounts for bulk orders, but do say on their website that depending on the product and how large the order, they may be able to extend a discount. You’ll have to call for (361) 645-3325 a quote. 

If you shop Hobby Lobby for wall art, try Etsy.

When you want to be surrounded by things that are homemade, but are a walking Pinterest fail, Etsy is your safe haven. In particular, they have great wall art (as does Hobby Lobby). Whatever your taste or color scheme, you’re likely to find it on Etsy at varying price points. 

Save more: If it’s specifically wall art you’re shopping for, look to see whether there’s a printable version of a piece or graphic you can purchase for less. Then, print it on your own (or bring it to a local print shop), and take advantage of our Hobby Lobby savings hacks when you buy something to frame it. Additionally, look to home decor savings events that offer a percentage-off discount. In April 2024, Etsy hosted a Home Sale with various decor items 30% off. If you’re purchasing more than one item from the same seller, they may offer a multiple item discount. This multiple-item discount information should appear on the product listing, but you can always reach out to the seller to ask. 

If you shop Hobby Lobby for wedding supplies, try Save-on-Crafts.

Even when you’re not a real DIY-er, there’s still something at a craft store you may need for a wedding. Save-on-Crafts is a store like Hobby Lobby in the sense that they sell a ton of wedding or big event-specific items, like faux florals, vases, candles, lighting, and whatever you might need to create a cohesive tablescape. 

Save more: Despite being a small, online-only business, Save-on-Crafts does have a sale section, and it’s worth perusing. We’ve seen up to 40% off candle pedestals, tiered cake stands, lanterns, tote bags, and florals on sale here. Plus, they offer free shipping on orders $79+.

If you shop Hobby Lobby for yarn, try Walmart. 

Walmart really does have quite a nice craft section in which you can find yarn, sewing supplies, and even fabric. We find Walmart’s yarn prices are comparable to that of Hobby Lobby, with prices typically falling within a dollar of each other. Of course, we only shop yarn at Hobby Lobby when it’s on sale, which is every other week when it’s discounted 30% off. 

Save more: To find the best prices on yarn at Walmart, it requires a few simple search basics. If you’re shopping Walmart.com, search yarn. Then, on the left-hand side of the screen, click ‘Special Offers.’ Next, check off either ‘Clearance,’ ‘Reduced Price,’ or both to filter so you only see the marked down yarn.  Take note of any additional shipping charges, as much of the yarn on Walmart.com is shipped and sold by third-party sellers.

If you shop Hobby Lobby for faux florals, try Afloral.

What’s interesting about Afloral is that this online business is practically only made up of faux floral stems and arrangements. They do offer some high-priced table cloths, serveware, and other home accents, but you really want to keep your eye on the prize here — their florals. 

Save more: Head directly to the sale section on Afloral’s website. Here you’ll find stems, branches, foliage, bushes, and more at up to 50% off, which is good because this store can get pricey. On top of that, they do run promos like ‘Buy 2 Stems, get 1 Stem free,’ though usually this applies to just one specific collection on the site. Shipping starts at $8, with nary a free shipping minimum in sight.

If you shop Hobby Lobby for furniture, try HomeGoods.

Furniture is not on our list of the best things to buy at Hobby Lobby because it really isn’t a great buy, which we explain in our Hobby Lobby furniture clearance story. But if you like the look and style of their pieces, head on over to HomeGoods. There are certainly similarities between the look of the furniture they carry and what Hobby Lobby has in stock. But the HomeGoods stuff tends to better quality, while still at a decent price point. 

Save more: HomeGoods did away with their online shopping experience in 2023, so now the only option is to shop in-store. This is just fine, though, because the shipping fees attached to HomeGoods were exorbitant. Much like their sister stores T.J.Maxx and Marshalls, you aren’t going to find coupons for HomeGoods because they already consider themselves to be an “off-price retailer.” However, every June HomeGoods has a massive clearance event where you’ll find the most furniture and home decor marked down even further, making it the best time to shop.

If you shop Hobby Lobby for everything mentioned above, try Amazon.

Interestingly enough, Hobby Lobby actually has a storefront on Amazon. And if you think this is a way to duck and dodge those HobbyLobby.com shipping costs but still order online, think again. For most Hobby Lobby products, Amazon will still charge you shipping, even if you’re a Prime member. Sometimes the shipping rate is less than what HL charges, other times not. But the kicker is that Hobby Lobby doesn’t run their sale schedule on Amazon, so you’ll be paying more per item even if it’s on sale that week in-store.

Save more: Ultimately, if there’s something you really want from Hobby Lobby, check to see if Amazon sells it via their own warehouses so you can get Prime free shipping. And since Amazon has the ability to increase or decrease their prices at a moment’s notice, there’s a solid chance they are already matching or beating Hobby Lobby’s in-store sale prices.
