Southwest Airlines, Air Tran and several other major airlines (including Delta and American) have announced another airfare sale, this one valid for travel on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from October 8 until December 14. One way fares start at just $39 and you must buy your ticket by 11:59 pm EDT TONIGHT, September 29. The $39 fares may be purchased one way (on Southwest or Air Tran; Delta and American require roundtrip purchase with a Saturday night stay) and no travel is permitted for these fares on November 22-23 and November 26-28 (Thanksgiving time.) You also must purchase the tickets at least 10 days in advance. The sale prices represent at least a $50 savings per one way ticket. Air taxes and service fees are additional.

Sample Airfares

I just checked a few cities to give you an idea of what this sale means.  The following are just examples. Exact fares will depend on the availability on the dates and cities you’re interested in. All of these examples are roundtrip.

  • Boston to Baltimore – $86
  • New York City to Norfolk – $98
  • Detroit to St. Louis – $118
  • St. Louis to Austin – $154
  • Chicago to Philadelphia – $172
  • Detroit to San Diego – $248

To take advantage of this deal and/or to check prices from your area, check the Southwest, Air Tran, Delta or American Airlines Web sites. Whether you’ll find any good deals really depends on your city and possible destination.  I couldn’t find much at the bottom end of the price scale, but maybe you’ll  have better luck.

And here is a Krazy tip: Did you know if you purchase travel packages, you can earn cash back from ShopAtHome.com?

Has anyone been able to take advantage of these lower airfares that have been offered recently?

I don’t understand how to get this deal… help?

  2. Jenny Self says:

Not for all airports… I have two flights to schedule during that time and tried it out of all my possible airports with no luck… same cost as normal. Based on the info on the site I believe it may have something to do with the airport you fly out of.. ATL seems to be an optimal one

  3. Just to make sure, I am not missing a promo code right? I just need to select the destination airport and select the Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Saturdays between the months (excluding Thanksgiving time) right?
