Storage Space: How to Make Your Home Pay for Itself

Joanie.Demer

Sometimes our homes are packed to the rafters, filled with boxes and items we “might need someday.” Other folks have plenty of  space with an empty attic, basement, shed, a parking spot, or even a closet. If you do have room to spare, turn that empty space into some cash!

Store At My House: Make money off of your extra storage space and list it online. Using this site, place an ad, choose the person you rent to, and choose the price they pay. If you live in a larger city where space is limited, then you are more likely to make some extra cash!

How it Works:

  • Register for an account
  • Describe you space (attic, basement, extra room, parking space)
  • Submit your listing
  • Print out this sample agreement to protect yourself and your renter
  • Get paid

Park At My House works similarly. If you live in a larger city where parking can get expensive or if there are large events that go on pretty frequently, then you have the potential to make great money. Several reviewers claim to make enough money to cover their utilities and mortgages.

How it Works:

  • Register for an account
  • Figure out what your space is worth based on where you are and what type, here
  • Submit your listing
  • Get paid

While these listings may not be for everyone, they’re definitely an easy way to make some extra cash. The important thing to remember is that you’re the one in control and you don’t have to agree to anything that you don’t feel comfortable with.
