Some days I just don’t want to get in my husband’s car. It has that subtle gym bag/fast food/oil pan funk.
Today, the hubs surprised me with a new car air freshener for both of our vehicles.
Not exactly a Tiffany’s bracelet (obviously, my hints haven’t been overt enough), but it was handmade!
In my house that makes it “Awww” worthy and pretty frugal too. After I gave him the biggest hug ever, I made him show me how to make this awesome gift so I could share it.
This project is one of the easiest, reusable, no-sew car air fresheners ever! Make a bunch for under $4 and hand them out as gifts.
You’ll Need:
- 2 pieces of felt 3 inches in size (.25 at Walmart)
- Hot Glue gun or fabric glue (pennies’ worth)
- Scissors
- Cotton balls
- Essential oil of choice (.89 at Walmart)
- Stencils (optional)
- String or twine (optional)
- Velcro (optional)
The Steps:
- Cut out felt into desired shape and size (3 in circles/squares are easiest).
- Use stencils to cut out decorations (like a college logo).
- Glue the pieces of felt together leaving a small slit in the pocket for adding the cotton balls.
- If you are adding a decoration, glue it to the front of your air freshener.
- Allow the glue to dry for around 5 minutes with something heavy on top of it.
- Stuff the air freshener with cotton balls until you think it’s “full” enough.
- Add around 15 drops of essential oils inside the pocket. The cotton balls will absorb the oil.
- Want it to hang from the rearview? Use scissors to make a small hole in the felt and thread through ribbon or twine.
- When the oil fades, replace the cotton balls and add fresh oil.
My little gift may not be the prettiest thing in the world, but I love it for the thought and work it represents. This is a great opportunity to have some fun with your kids or spouse.
