In some Costco warehouses, it’s still tough to find paper towels. And yeah, Costco does limit the number of paper towels packages members can buy, but inventory is still tight.
So they’re shrinking the size of each roll of paper towels.
Here’s what you need to know:
New Kirkland Signature Paper Towels have 20 fewer sheets.
Shoppers are starting to see signs popping up at local Costco warehouses, indicating that while you can still get 12-packs of Kirkland Signature Paper Towels, each roll will have 140 sheets per roll, down from 160 sheets per roll.
The cost per sheet has stayed the same.
Nothing has changed about Costco’s paper towels except the number of sheets per roll; even the price per sheet has stayed the same. So if you have the new 140-sheet rolls, you’ll notice they’re cheaper.
The price per square foot remains 1.9 cents, which is well within our bargain price target for paper towels.

Hopefully this means paper towels will be easier to find.
In a 12-pack of paper towels, there are 240 fewer sheets, which is almost two whole paper towel rolls saved — allowing additional rolls to be made for more customers.
Costco hopes that by making smaller rolls, they’ll experience fewer inventory issues.
You can still buy 160-sheet rolls at Costco.com.
In case you’re longing for the paper towel rolls of the past, Costco.com still has a 12-pack of 160-sheet rolls available for $19.99 (availability varies by geographic area).
These packs are limited to 1 per membership.
Speaking of fewer sheets, don’t forget about the half-sheet cakes.
We’re still sad that we can’t pick up a half-sheet cake whenever we want, but at least we can still place orders for them at Costco.
