I know what you’re thinking — another food holiday? But it’s National Guacamole Day, and you can’t tell me you don’t get excited when, through restaurant rewards, you get a side of guac for free. On July 31 we celebrated guac’s mama on National Avocado Day. But on Sept. 16, 2024 we’ll feast on guacamole itself with deals and contests.

National Guacamole Day 2024 isn't until September, but we’re sharing the restaurants who celebrated in 2023. Of course we’ll keep this post updated when the next event’s promotions are confirmed.

National Guacamole Day is a one-day annual event with free and cheap guacamole.

Every year on September 16, we celebrate guacamole alongside Mexican Independence Day. You'll likely see one-day offers for free guac at Mexican-style restaurants. In the past we've seen deals at Qdoba, Chipotle, Moe's Southwest Grill, and On the Border. While we expect deals at large chains, but also be sure to check your local restaurants, too.

The next National Guacamole Day falls on Sept. 16, 2024.

This year we'll be celebrating guacamole on a Sunday. Here are a few deals we saw in 2023 that could return for 2024.

Wholly Guacamole offered a contest to win free guac for a year.

So you couldn’t find this deal at a restaurant but if you were feeling lucky, you could win free guacamole for a year in a prize packaged valued at $10,000 from the peeps at Wholly Guacamole. They called it the the “Ultimate TailGUACing Sweepstakes.” All you had to do was register on their sweepstakes page. There were some eligibility requirements, though. You had to be at least 18 years of age. And, sadly, if you live in New York, Florida, Puerto, Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, or outside the U.S, you weren’t eligible to win.

Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant: Order online or through their app and get a free small guac appetizer with promo code.

On Sept. 16 only, Abuselo’s gave away a free small guac appetizer with entree purchase. You had to order online or through their app using promo code GUACDAY at checkout. There was a limit of one free small guacamole app per order.

Guess what? It doesn’t have to be National Guacamole Day to score free guac at Qdoba. The restaurant will add it to any purchased entree absolutely free, every day. Now keep in mind not to get greedy. The fine print says, “First portion of guac and queso is free on Create your Own entrees. Extra portions subject to charge.”

Tocaya: Free chips and guacamole with a purchase of $15+ for loyalty members.

If you’re a member of Tocaya’s rewards program (which is free to join), you could have gotten a free app of chips and guac with any $15+ order on Sept. 16. The chain has more than 20 locations across Southern California and Arizona.
