If you’ve bought Tyson chicken recently, you’ll want to check the USDA establishment number to make sure your product isn’t included in a class I USDA recall.
Class I is the most serious designation a recall can have. The USDA announced that nearly 8.5 million pounds of frozen, fully cooked Tyson chicken products may be contaminated with Listeria.
Here’s what you need to know:
If you have Tyson’s frozen grilled chicken breast, definitely check your label.
Any product with the establishment or inspected by number “P-7089” has been recalled. The USDA produced this list of Tyson products that were not safe to eat.
Your establishment number — a number assigned to each meat, poultry, and egg product sold in the U.S. — should be on the outside of an item’s packaging.
Call your doctor if you’re feeling feverish, achey after eating recalled Tyson chicken.
Pregnant women, older adults, and people with weakened immunity are the most vulnerable to becoming seriously ill from listeria.
According to the CDC, symptoms include fever and muscle aches if you’re pregnant. If you’re not pregnant, Listeria can also cause headaches, confusion, and loss of balance.
Tyson shipped these products all over the nation.
Retailers aren’t the only ones who should be checking their packages. The recalled products were also shipped to hospitals, nursing facilities, restaurants, schools and Department of Defense locations.
We know that recalled Tyson chicken was sold at these stores.
We’re still waiting on the USDA to post a complete list of businesses that sold the recalled poultry, but we know these products went to the following places:
- Walmart
- Target
- Kroger
- Publix
- Little Caesars
- Jet’s Pizza
- Casey’s General Store
- Marco’s Pizza
- Stewart’s Shops
- H-E-B
- Wegmans
Throw away or return any contaminated product.
Kroger, Stewart’s Shops, H-E-B and Wegmans all announced that refunds would be available to customers who returned recalled items.
